So I am indeed a ‘no sauce, no bun, no whatever’ person. I try to call ahead or ask the server before sending in an order. If I did not ask for special treatment (hamburger, no bun) I wouldn’t eat at ALL. I get caught off guard though. Ordered a veggie omlette – but the veggies had been stirred in soy sauce, and soy sauce has WHEAT in it. NO notice on the menu, and who would expect that? So back it went as I explained that could be seriously life threatening to someone with celiac disease. They were miffed, but I think when you do something un-standard, you really outta warn people. He, along with Barbara Boxer, have repeatedly and falsely slammed CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) as “terrorist sympathizer” because they have “insufficiently” denounced Hezbolah and Hamas by name. I know this first hand because Barb gave the Ex.Dir. of CAIR in Sacramento a civic award, then, because she’s cowed by Islamophobe Steve Emmerson, took it back. Quite a large number of us on the Sacramento Hate Crimes Task Force sent her office a message under my organization’s name and under my signature asking for a meeting with her or her staff. Then LO! One morning I got a call from her DC office that in 45 minutes Sen. Boxer would be calling ME to talk this all over. And so we did. For another 45 minutes. And she would not back down even as she tried to placate me. Her allegations about CAIR were entirely false, based on Emmerson’s lies, but she’d not change her position, not even when I told her I was supported in this by a prominent Rabbi she also knows. She kept slamming CAIR even as she wanted us to get together and sing kumbayah when she was back in the district. It was a very frustrating conversation, to say the least. She did agree to have national and CA state CAIR come to her office to meet with her Civil Rights person (who took all of Emmerson’s crap but would read nothing else about CAIR) which seemed, at the time, to turn out OK. Until the next day when she issued a press statement REAFFIRMING her opposition to CAIR and perpetuating the lies. Her buddy and supporter through all of this? One of the linchpins (you should forgive the expression) of her position? Dick Durbin. So – bravo to Sen. D. for finally doing something decent to support Muslims in America. It’s not much, but it’s a step. It’s nice to know that he’s NOT as bad as Rep. Peter King. Standards get lower every day, don’t they? The National Guard troops in every state are sworn to protect citizens AGAINST such predations. That said, since we seem to be recycling history, the private goons of the Colorado Iron & Fuel Co. (Rockefellers) did murder women and children in the 1914 Ludlow Massacre. Can’t say it would not happen, but after Kent State, the REAL military have become far more aware of their responsibilities, not just their lethal power. When Walker said he’d call out the guard on WI public employees, the Guard said – no WAY. There was so much public outcry from the Guard against being used against citizens, even Walker the Venal decided against that tactic. I’m finding it interesting – though the final verdict is hardly in – that in Egypt and elsewhere much of the military seems on the side of people NOT the powers that be. I saw this was moving into Southern CA so I hope everyone is OK there, too. Whether this is because Mercury is in retrograde or climate change, it was a heckuva blow. Three years ago a similar storm brought down a huge maple two blocks from here. The tree bisected a bungalow – residents unharmed – that is now totally gone. The folks had JUST remodeled, but the house was a total loss and was demolished. How sad. Everybody stay safe and dry. These storms are picking up in frequency so I think we’d better get used to them. Thanks climate deniers. I just had a huge branch fall ALMOST on my car, but the neighbors’ fence caught it and prevented major damage. My neighbors and I agreed to leave it until morning to deflect other branches coming down. I REFUSE to accept any major problems – I will NOT give the Religious Right the satisfaction!!!!!
