Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

BDM, I always love it when the guys in our company who are in cities in the South visit us.

“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Please.”
“Thank you.”

Their manners are beyond reproach. They may hate my ass, but no one would EVER know it.

Not only have we become lazy, many parents have as well.

Thanks bits…I’m flattered. 😳

***EDIT*** Please feel free to turn this into a Main Thread thing. I wasn’t sure where it should go, but something tells me it should be up close and personal. Kind of sends a message about the standards at The Planet. You Know?

Welcome to The Planet Cleo!!! So happy you are here.

***EDIT*** Andy and his cohorts also want to keep the investors happy. However, I’m not holding my breath as to how long they will be smiling.

PW,

I’m freakin’ impressed. You’ve taken to this like a duck to water. Quack, quack!

Plus, you have Maggie, and I have Bailey, Lucy, and Kenzie. I also had Zoey, bless her heart, until she succumbed to CRF Feb. 2009; I was devastated. So, overcompensated. 😆

Dear Planet Friends,

Maybe it is because I have been an Administrative Assistant for longer than I care to admit, or maybe it is just because I believe, at some level, men and women alike should be addressed with respect, unless said individual asks to be addressed otherwise (meaning by first name or whatever he/she requests).

In my case, I would much rather be addressed as boomer, instead of ma’am, Ms. Boomer, Mrs. Boomer. Yuck, makes me feel older than, insert Goddess name here, except for Elphiba Huffington.

Exception to this rule: if the cashier at the liquor store cards me, Heh, then I really don’t care; never mind I’m undoubtedly old enough to be his/her grammy. 😉

On the other hand, there are certain positions in this world that, regardless of our personal political beliefs or affiliations, command and truly deserve to be treated with our respect, simply because of his/her position in life.

Therefore, I would like to suggest to my Planet friends that we become much more cognizant and, at least to attempt to address our President as President Obama, our Vice President as Vice President Biden, and our Secretary of State as Secretary of State Clinton. Initially, at first mention, at least; then following the example set by NPR and PBS: once we have identified him/her by formal title, the follow up and reference should be Mr. or Ms.

Don’t care how many times it takes, just do it. Trust me, it is a hard habit to break, but with practice, it’s no different than riding a bicycle.

The more we identify these extremely important individuals by their last names, the more we contribute to discrediting and demeaning them. It is to be expected of the RW.

However, I sincerely believe we are above the disrespectful and demeaning behavior of the neo-cons.

This lack of respect has been in my craw for quite some time. I said as much to someone at The Planet today.

Before I left, I fought tooth-and-nail at HP when the POTUS was referred to as “Barry” and many, many commenters used the “N” word. How disgusting is that, and why should we, the other 98% have to put up with this garbage? I’ve not commeneted there in 14 months, and I’m still pissed off about it. Quite frankly, it makes me want to puke.

Maybe I will be considered corny; seriously, I don’t care. On the other hand, if we continue to go with the flow, we are no better than the demeaning message the RW-Neo-Cons continue to send.

In the end, we will become that much more credible.

Truth,

If you are anything like me, it goes in one brain cell and out the other. Then I have to retrace my steps just to find the brain cells I’ve misplaced. 😆

BTW, the video is on YouTube, so feel free to send to the masses. 😉

Since his retirement, I have sincerely missed the voice of Bill Moyers. Sometimes I have wondered if he was not forced into it, but that’s different ballgame.

At any rate, he recently wrote a piece Facts Still Matter …” for truthout.org. It would be phenomenal if we were were able get him to do to do something similar for The Planet.

I read that, just the headline, not the story. The headline all by itself is an overflowing crock of shit.

» Posted By boomer1949 On February 14, 2011 @ 1:19 pm

I put this up yesterday after it landed on my FB page. This is for everyone who might have missed it.

That’s our AdLib! Isn’t it fun exploring the Archives?

I remember that one! Oh, and I was only 12 when it aired. 😉

Paradise,

I read through the comments to Krugmans’ OpEd piece. This one was the best:

The job of the Republicans is to do the bidding of their corporate masters without the voters ever noticing. The only way to keep the majority of the people from noticing or caring that they are still being robbed blind by the banksters is to create convenient scapegoats. Losing your house to foreclosure? Not the bank’s fault, say the conservative lawmakers – blame it on your property taxes going toward the pension of the greedy cop on the beat. Can’t find work? Blame it on “job-killing Obamacare”, says House Speaker John Boehner.

Their reasons don’t have to make sense, because a frighteningly large segment of the American population likes being told what to do in a time of trouble.
Subjected to the constant harangues of Glenn Beck and the conservative hysterics in Congress, they are relieved of the responsibility of thinking for themselves. It’s easier just to feel raw emotion. The Tea Party movement itself was born in 2009 on CNBC, when Rick Santelli performed his famous “populist” rant against government aid to underwater homeowners. Wall Street masterfully co-opted grass roots anger at the Wall Street-created financial meltdown by deflecting it away from the likes of Goldman Sachs and AIG. The oligarchs blamed the mythical Reagan welfare queen, who bought a house and lived above her means. It astroturfed irrational fear of our first black president, his nonexistent death panels and his nonexistent socialism.

The Conservatives thrive on instilling fear and creating smokescreens. They scream about taking back our freedoms. And people buy into it, because what they really want is freedom from the truth. They hate the government, but they want their Medicare. It’s much easier to hate than to reason, much easier to be entertained than to be educated.

This has absolutely nothin’ to do with politics, but everything to do with my love of animals. This link will take you to a live web stream at Norfolk Botanical Garden in Norfolk VA — an up close and personal look into a Bald Eagle nest located in the garden itself. Last year I tuned in after the eaglets hatched and was able to watch until all fledged in the Fall.

The 2011 nesting season has begun and there are 3 eggs; the serious incubating has begun. It’s a wonderful experience to watch nature in action, and for those whose days/nights are opposite ours, it gives you something to do in the middle of the night when insomnia sets in.

So many excellent posts to read; so little time. I feel like the March Hare and must start pacing myself. Otherwise, I’ll be sitting in front of the ‘puter 24/7; not sure how it would go over at work. 😉

Namaste Truth and welcome again!

Yes, I agree. How long does it take for the bruising to go away?

How cute and funny! When I was married, we had a Golden. His name was Tyler and every time he was out in the snow, he did the exact same thing. Always a hoot to witness. Thanks for the memory… 😆

😆 Humor really does put all of it in perspective.

Some of her Twitter-acknowledged-BFFs are Newt and the “Let’s Discredit-Obama-Issa-Guy”.

What a load of horse manure.

What floors me the most? The fact they actually assume WE are dumber than a box of rocks. Takes a big bag of cajonnes to be so elitist.

Snob=$$$=Condescending=Uncompassionate=Snob.

It ain’t rocket science. Duh…

» Posted By boomer1949 On February 12, 2011 @ 4:51 pm

ah, but the best thing about the %%_F_&3__^ stuff? You’ll never have to worry about that crap here. HP is nothing more than a Kindergarten playground rag.

I certainly hope we, and those we are trying to reach, are:

1. Grownups,
2. Smart enough to think for ourselves,
3. Not easily intimidated, and
4. Willing to stand up to the users and liars.

Okay, I admit it, I’m a wimp.

I didn’t stay up(stay awake)last night for VOX, couldn’t sleep in this morning because of the twelve paws living with me and then ran errands all day. Wake up time for “the paws” is sooner than I would like, but the furry critters only want to eat and sleep.

Therefore, if they don’t eat, I don’t sleep.

Night everyone. Enjoy the rest of this evening, and I’ll see you on the other side. 🙂

BDM — breakfast for dinner is essential. My kids loved it when they were little and the Dad worked late (which was 90% of the time).

» Posted By boomer1949 On February 12, 2011 @ 4:16 pm

For goodness sake, and you didn’t invite the rest of us? Personally, I would have gladly contributed to the soiree. Hell, I would have done the dishes. 🙂

Patsy,

I’ve come to the conclusion these guys have no brains. However, and to be fair, what brains they may have become squished each and every day they sit on them.

***EDIT*** I signed and added this:

Do not, absolutely do not, mess with Public Television or Public Radio.

😆 I guess it was a rhetorical question after all.

Cher,

Like Patsy, I’m trying when every opportunity presents itself…

boomer1949: ………Harry Shearer posted a comment on Facebook for The Other 98%. Something about GWB. However, I embraced the opportunity to comment.

This is what I wrote:

Love it Harry.
Now, would you please address Arianna Huffington’s selling out at the expense of those who contributed to her success.? Authors, commenters, subscribers, folks who sincerely believed she had their best interest at heart. Yet, several months ago, she “happened” to run into Newt (of all people) in Amalfi and most recently, cuddling warm and fuzzy in Las Vegas with the Issa guy. You know, the one who wants to “investigate” every freakin’ thing President Obama has done over the last two years? Progressives she deceived? Absolutely! And, someone should be tripping her while she attempts to laugh all the way to the bank.
