Beyond that point, my point was, Mitt is calling Staples a success but they/he entered it from scratch, their investment depended on Staples success, not by dismantling, outsourcing or using other peoples money (including the companies money and the workers pension funds) for profit and what Bain did then with Staples, an angel investor, for profit is vastly different what they would do now to Staples (or any other preexisting company) for profit. Going to my brother-in law and asking to invest in starting a used car lot, is different than having Bain come in and sell all my used cars out from under me (and my now poor brother-in law.) Methinks that is why. Another interesting point. Mitt points to Staples as a job creator, a feather in his and Bain’s fedora. Dozens of people evacuated still have no idea when they can go back home. The people who were left homeless by the spill were told it’d only be a few days before they’d be allowed back in their houses. Fast forward, seven days later, and 70 people are still waiting for word on when it’s safe to go back home. Sunoco says it has dozens of crews working on rotating shifts around the clock to get the spill cleaned up. The company says it is also working to make sure those evacuated don’t incur additional expenses during the cleanup. We had a local hospital near me that got “an offer that they couldn’t refuse” by an equity corporation with their leveraged buy out (LBO) and it nearly closed the place down. They became so understaffed and lacked equipment that people went elsewhere if they were able.
