It wouldn’t surprise me, not at all. The thing that does surprise me is that he is even running for prez with all these questionable “activities” in his background. How can he be trusted and wouldn’t he be second guessed every time he made a decision concerning money? Is he helping one of his hedge fund/private equity buddies?

Joe Walsh’s disgust for our veterans’ sacrifices knows no bounds. First, he falsely and maliciously claims that Tammy Duckworth, a veteran who lost her legs in Iraq didn’t have much of a record of service. Now, he denigrates that same American hero for talking about how her experience shaped her worldview and strengthened her resolve to serve even more – a conversation that isn’t just legitimate to have, but crucial as America charts its course domestically and internationally. This is a new low for this deadbeat dad. Telling a veteran to shut up on the 4th of July is beyond the pale. We are past the point of calling on Joe Walsh to apologize. He should step aside and and stop embarrassing his district and America.

After ThinkProgress published video showing Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) denigrating his opponent’s — a double amputee — military service, veterans swarmed the Illinois Republican’s Facebook page to denounce his attacks.

Many of these veterans described themselves as “dedicated conservatives”, “rock-ribbed Republicans”, and “Tea Party members.” Yet despite their ideological leanings, Walsh’s insult drove them to defend Tammy Duckworth and strongly condemn the Tea Party freshman.

William Gilliam posted: “I am a rock-ribbed Republican and a Vietnam Veteran. Your comments about Tammy Duckworth’s military service and resultant injuries are just dead wrong. Unless and until you have the courage to sign up yourself, don’t disparage anyone else’s service nor their willingness to talk about it.”

OK, it’s legal, but how will this effect any of his decisions when dealing with the G-8/G20, the State Dept or the IMF when the subject of debt forgiveness comes up? “Well, we can’t do that, my buddy, Paul Singer is making a killing on those rinky-dink countries and he’s giving me a kick-back. Let’s talk about something else. ”

Will Mitt (or his spokespeople since he doesn’t do questions) reply to this article? It’s quite revealing on his foreign bank accounts and his taxes. Has any other president or presidential candidate ever held foreign bank accounts? How many voters have both Swiss and Cayman bank accounts tax shelters?

California doctors sue Aetna for coverage denials

(Reuters) – Thousands of doctors in California are suing the health insurance company Aetna Inc., claiming the company routinely denies patients access to out-of-network doctors even when the patient has purchased a policy giving them the right to choose providers.

The lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, accuses Aetna of threatening patients with denial of coverage if their members visit doctors outside the Aetna network of providers, and of threatening doctors with having their Aetna contracts terminated if they refer patients outside the network.

“We have sued some of these same doctors and surgery centers named in the suit for their egregious billing practices in February of this year,” Cynthia Michener, a spokeswoman for Aetna, said in an email. “This is a countersuit disguised as a class action lawsuit.”

Adlib, I read an interesting analysis on national polls and this race. The link exists somewhere in our twitter timeline, I try to find it latter but the breakdown is this:
In the states that Obama lost in 2008, the red states the spread is much larger and in the states he won, and is winning, the spread is much smaller thus making national polls much closer. A plausible theory and it is backed up by the numbers. The popular vote is/will be close but looking at the electoral map it’s a different story. Both Moody’s and 538 have PBO with a pretty good lead in electoral numbers and that why the media doesn’t talk about them, they have to have their horse race: “It’s all tied up!”

AdLib, I fully realize that but it’s like his campaign isn’t even trying to go beyond the “get the black commie out of OUR WH” hate mode. He won’t do interviews except to RW websites, he quit taking questions at his own rallies and when he is accused of anything there is a press release from a spokesperson, it’s like he doesn’t care about the campaign beyond raising more money and relying on the “Black Man in our WH” thing.
When he announced his honorary co-chairs for the Vets thing, couldn’t the campaign have also announced some younger Vets that actually support him?
The other day he had a rally/fund raiser in Wyoming with Darth Ceney, does that show he wants to appeal to anyone beyond his RW base? He has become a stealth candidate and the media allows it.

So he appoints two WW II vets to head his “Veterans and Military Families for Romney”.

OK, most of us know and loved WW II vets, dad, uncles grandfathers, aunts….but c’mon, how many of them are left here on earth? Not many, meanwhile we have had Korea, Nam Iraq (twice) and the ongoing Afghan war. Couldn’t he find anyone from a more recent war/conflict to help his cause?
And he says Obama is out of touch? Most voters 18-35 think of HW as Shrubs dad and Bob Dole Who or the old fellow that did those Viagra ads.

I just don’t understand his campaign except it’s solidify his base and don’t talk to the media. Will his get the black socialist out of our White House and ignore me campaign work?

The GOP complains about the 1% tax penalty in ACA but, wow, did you catch some of what the things he wanted to do in Mass? Garnish wages, withhold drivers licenses, tax returns and disallow personal exemptions…. Not just a tax/penalty to him was it, it was down right punitive.

They should know, when I looked at your map it was the most bizarre redistricting map I had ever seen. And much of it can be blamed on the low Dem voter turnout in 2010.

Oddly, this screwed up state, AZ, did one thing right and has a bipartisan commission that does the redistricting and takes it out of the hands of bright red legislature. The Dems actually had a 5-4 advantage in our congressional make-up.

Of course, we do have the advantage that our maps have to be approved by the feds. 😆

Dems win Wisconsin Senate majority after failing to oust Walker

A two-week recount of a disputed state Senate recall election held on the same day as the Walker vote showed that former state Senator Democrat John Lehman defeated incumbent Republican Senator Van Wanggaard by 819 votes, or 1 percent, according to the Racine County Clerk’s office.

The bad news:

The result gives Democrats a 17-16 majority in the Senate, which may be short-lived since half of its members are up for re-election in November and Republicans have redrawn election lines to favor them.

Next to CU and money in elections, the gerrymandering of districts has to the worst thing for democracy. An incumbent has a better chance resigning or dying in office than getting defeated by a challenger. With out competitive districts, little fiefdoms are set up for those elected.

A recent analysis by Public Campaign and Alliance for a Just Society shows that the NFIB and its Legal Center received an influx of big dollar donations in 2010 and 2011 as their challenge to the federal health care law moved forward — suggesting the challenge is bankrolled by deep-pocketed special interests. The NFIB pocketed more than $10 million in six figure contributions in 2010 and 2011, with $8.5 million coming from just four contributors. As a non-profit, NFIB is not required to disclose its donors, but it is known that the organization received $3.7 million in 2010 from Karl Rove’s 501(c)(4) political group Crossroads GPS. In contrast, in 2009, the year before the healthcare lawsuit, the largest donation NFIB received was $21,000.

The NFIB joined with 26 states in a lawsuit against the 2010 Affordable Care Act (better known as “Obamacare”), but is funding the challenge entirely on its own. “I’m not sure most voters understand that a lawsuit by their states is being funded by an ideological organization with an issue ax to grind,” said Ethan Rome, executive director of Health Care for America Now.

And yes, the Koch’s ALEC is also involved, in fact the Koch’s spent 9 million the day after the SCOTUS decision on ads still fighting the ACA.
