Lots of confusion at the ole homestead right now. OK, AB, I’m back. Thanks for mentioning that segment and I must admit I was quite confused on how the whole food support/income support thing works and I still am. Oddly, I watched a program some time ago about mobile/cart fresh vegetable venders in the inner city of NYC, where they are to get, and the vendors seem to be doing quite well because there is a demand for fresh vegies. I don’t know if they are able to take food stamps or not, but it would be fantastic if they were. Since the election of Prez Obama I do know that there has been a big push to help farmers markets (another great place to place cooking classes) and truck farms. I don’t know how much that effort has survived, they are always trying to cut that because it’s one of Michelle’s pets. So many good ideas to help end hunger and help people get through rough patches with food supplements, the problem seems to be not a lack of money but a lack of compassion to your fellow man in the new conservative segment of society. With a little food education so many problems could be helped — Hunger, obesity, heart health, diabetes…. all of them costing the country billions more in health care and a fraction of what I loved another line from the Berg fellow (paraphrase) since the start of the start of the SNAP card fraud has gone down to 1% and the rate of congress members has gone to 2%, so the fraud and crime is twice as bad in congress. After saying all that, it is way too early, Romney could bounce back, can the Dems continue with their “You can’t trust Mitt” campaign until November? Can they raise enough money? The fund raising for the Obama campaign (and it’s superpac) was very good in June, but not so good that an Addelson/Koch couldn’t match it with one check.

All of your ides are excellent ideas and from what I gathered from the tye-dyed chef what he does, teaching low income/SNAP people how, what to buy and cook is subsidized through the SNAP program. So the result of cutting the SNAP program also cuts his educational program and that is just piling on to the shame of their cutting of it. (Stolen from Murrow and his Shame of America on poverty and hunger.) The idea of holding cooking classes in a grocery store that caters to low income peeps is an excellent one and seems to me like a win-win proposition. The grocer wins and the SNAP recipients win and learn how to eat healthier and stretch the money.
