The story goes like this: Staples founder Tom Stemberg was in the midst of a nasty divorce with his wife Maureen Stemberg Sullivan. Romney, a friend of Stemberg’s who invested in his company, testified in court that Staples was not worth very much. Staple’s stock was “overvalued,” Romney said in court, adding, “I didn’t place a great deal of credibility in the forecast of the company’s future.” [….] Romney’s testimony helped ensure that Maureen received very little money when the divorce case was resolved. But the controversy comes from this: “We’re told just weeks after the divorce ended, Romney and Tom went to Goldman Sachs and cashed in THEIR stock for a fortune. Short story — Romney allegedly lied to help his friend and screw the friend’s wife over.” And then there is this kicker: TMZ doesn’t stop there. They also report that as Sullivan was suffering from cancer and multiple sclerosis, Stemberg canceled her health insurance. The kicker is that Stemberg was then working with Romney as a health care adviser.

The original version – which was published Thursday morning – said white journalists wrote 93 percent of the stories, while Asian Americans wrote 3.3 percent, African American journalists wrote 2.9 percent and Hispanics wrote .7 percent. The new version, published Thursday evening, lists these figures as 93 percent, 4 percent, 2.1 percent and .9 percent, respectively. Dueling Visions » Posted By bito On October 26, 2012 @ 2:18 pm I do my best to find and follow some intelligent. hard working investigative sites but it seems I find a few every few/days weeks. To put it succinctly, Ohio had outsourced their 2004 Presidential Election electronic vote-counting network to a die-hard Republican working for Karl Rove. In the end, President Bush beat Sen. Kerry, but barely. Bush nearly lost the key state of Ohio, winning with 2,860,000 votes to 2,740,000 – roughly 120,000 votes short. Bush won the state’s 20 electoral votes, which pushed him ahead on the total electoral vote 286 to 251. But was the Ohio vote flipped in the middle of night with the help of Mark L. Connell? A number of independent journalists say ‘yes’, and if you doubt them, at least consider the evidence. Bob Fitrakis, an attorney, journalist and activist based in Columbus, Ohio, runs the FreePress.org website and for eight years has chased this story with journalist partner Harvey Wasserman. Now with just days before the 2012 presidential election, Fitrakis and Wasserman are working overtime. In their newest book – Will the GOP Steal America’s 2012 Election? – they wrote about what happened in the middle of that fateful 2004 night: I don’t remember ever reading this: In Ohio 2004, at 12:20 election night, the initial vote tabulation showed John Kerry handily defeating Bush by more than 4%. This 200,000-plus margin appeared to guarantee Kerry’s ascent to the presidency. But mysteriously, the Ohio vote count (being tabulated by Mark L. Connell’s GovTech) suddenly shifted to SmarTech in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Lo and behold, in SmarTech’s basement were servers used by the Republican National Committee and the White House. Fitrakis and Wasserman added: With private Republican-connected contractors processing the vote, Bush jumped ahead with a 2% lead, eventually winning with an official margin of more than 118,000 votes. Such a shift of more than 6%, involving more than 300,000 votes, is a virtual statistical impossibility. Amazing! What a far cry from what comes out of Mitt Romney’s mouth. He has the honesty and statesmanship of an amoeba. His whole life is nothing but deceit. He hides everything in his life and that may be why he has no core beliefs, because he can’t and still exist in his little world. It’s impossible!

Mitt has vowed that his first order of business as president would be to reinstate the devastating “global gag rule,” also known as the “Mexico City policy” — a restriction originally hatched by Reagan that has been used to block federal money for family-planning work abroad to any organization that provided information, advice, referrals or services for legal abortion or supported the legalization of abortion — even using its own funds.
