Funksands: THAT IS IT!

I always thought, Obama had built up such good grassroots movements and didn’t do anything with them after being elected. I don’t know how this legally is, maybe he couldn’t after becoming president. However, I always thought people do have to stand together and push from the background/bottom. Any president needed the population to push into the right direction for that matter.
Since AH had build a large blogger community I tried many times to remind her of her responsibility to unite people and build some grassroots movements. Guess what, the comments were always deleted, and I think I even got a stalker mod on my neck for a couple of weeks. And as we know, the media rejoiced in promoting the Koch-teaparty- astroturf- “movement” who had copied – yes! copied! – Obama’s grassroots movement! The left was paralyzed and watched in disbelief.
Now if left and right would find common ground here, the Corporations would finally get the blow they need to receive.
However, America has one big, very big, disadvantage, and that is the absence of proper media laws. This is one of the major problems in your country, if not the severest. England on the other hand reigned Murdoch in in a jiffy, at least in this case!

The article you introduced here is excellent material and Hari even posted a 10 step manual. Both should at least end up somewhere in the action section here, also for further reference. What I’m going to do now is: I send this exchange and the links to AdLib in order to make sure this doesn’t go unnoticed.

And Funksands, I hope you put this up again on OT or better still you write a full post on this, maybe upon consultation with AdLib, who also may be very interested in the subject as I assume. Thanks for posting this!!! 8)

So painful to hear things like that. Some are nearly beyond repair, I guess.

» Posted By Truth On February 16, 2011 @ 6:54 am

David, exactly. She/they riled us up very much on purpose, in spite of our frequent complaints to stop the misleading headlines. When I now go on Huff I see crystal clear how the game works. Before I was too often too involved, and very true, it didn’t appeal to my better angels there.

BDM, I understand that you get so upset, I certainly would too. But then why to put him to the dustbin just because of his ignorant opinion? After all it’s only an opinion. If I can, and that means it’s not always, I try to still see the good that I previously saw and try to find out why they think the way they do. (More often than not they repeat an opinion they’ve heard somewhere and as soon as they realize it’s not even their own idea they can – sometimes – become open for a new point of view.)
However, an incident like this would upset me a lot and I’d have to take some time to cool down before I would be able to ask him some reasonable questions or to inform him that I was angry and saddened by his words. Just my 2 cents.

I think the following is quite interesting:

jkkFL says:

I received a note from HP that said they have had to go to some auto-moderation to keep up with the traffic and delays.
Also, if you repost something that has been deleted- it goes to auto-delete..
so AOL and it’s automation moderation is in full force.

I think that may be the reason why the censorship lately wasn’t that stringent. I make my invitations to planet pov always on unmoderated threads, which without fail are those about the President! I try to avoid that too many people see it, especially the trolls, and therefore often I pick out a user that I think might like it here and reply to them a few comments back. (Important: I always use reply only to post about here). And I see to it that I make plenty of other comments in between too, which is hard at times, since most of the threads are still on lockdown.

Luckily I could post lately what’s really on my mind. For example, I ask folks there if they notice how President Obama is relentlessly painted as two-faced and inconsistent and if they are not wondering wether the founder of that outlet matches that description much better. Of course I never use TheNameThatMustNotBeNamed – however, earlier not even the slightest criticism about the empress without clothes escaped the dustbin.

I hope it’s ok to post that here, I thought it may be of interest to many people who want to bring more friends over.

***Edit: Editors, can you please move this to “Everything over there….” – and delete the last 2 paragraphs, that is after ” …dustbin.”
I should have posted it there, but took the wrong decision. Sorry!

Snatched from HuffPoo:

Russ Feingold Launches ‘Progressives United’ To Combat Corporate Influences In Politics

WASHINGTON — When some senators retire, they decide to take lucrative lobbying jobs. Others go straight to Wall Street. But Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold, who lost his re-election bid in November, is continuing on his principled — and often lonely — path by starting an organization to combat corporate influence in politics, an effort he hopes will spark “a new progressive movement” that will truly hold elected officials accountable.

Launching on Wednesday, Progressives United is an attempt to to build a grassroots effort aimed at mitigating the effects of, and eventually overturning, the Supreme Court’s infamous Citizens United decision that opened the floodgates to corporate spending in the U.S. electoral system. In addition to online mobilization, the political action committee (PAC) will support progressive candidates at the local, state and national levels, as well as holding the media and elected officials accountable on the group’s key priorities.

Then log in with a fake account to inform people. Anyway, I think lots of people who chose to stay at Huff know now and they inform others when asked where so many bloggers went.

Excellent, funksands, I come back later to study that stuff.

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 7:26 pm

Ha, PW! I see I tapped into the right source… (see Help Desk)

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 7:24 pm

David, you are spot on on this one! Bill O’Reilly even admitted that peace is just so boring. He said, during the interview with President Obama, that with conflict money is to be made, a lot of money.
Now all of us ex-Huffers know exactly how it feels to get riled up against each other on a daily basis. How stupid from us that we all fell into the trap regularly!

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 7:18 pm

Thank you boomer. And yes, this is a wonderful place!

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 7:11 pm

Dood, it’s not that hard anymore. I invite them openly to check out planet pov, exactly in that writing, and I see to it that I always make a couple of other comments in between too. So far I haven’t been banned. (And just in case they should ban me, I took screenshots from my friends lists, in order to remember them.)

Anyway, I think Whorianna may already have jumped ship inwardly. The restrictions are not that severe anymore currently – the Obama threads are NOT moderated (pretty much of the rest still is). And I could remind my fellow “libruls” that this is a right wing outlet now and why they believe what they are told here.

Moreover I read somewhere in the comments here that they have not enough mods now and that they’ve switched in part to an automated moderating system. That would explain why I could criticize the empress for the first time, yet of course without her name. Still, this is new. Before, every criticism at HP and the empress was met with instant deletion.

It’s really odd, if she wants to get rid of the progressives, why would she not “allow” that we go elsewhere? I guess she wants to suck out every little bit of talent she can, and just when folks get to critical they are kicked out.

Probably the help desk is the best place for this kind of request in order to be seen?

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 11:09 am

So Doc got 2 invitations…. I met many others too, some I knew and others not, so let’s see who likes to come over.

Thanks for the reply, bito. I thought about how all of you feel with such an huge influx of newbies. For us new people it’s nice that so many come at the same time, for we can learn and adjust together. But for those who were here for a long time things must have changed quite a bit!

At the Huff the moderation was increasingly on lockdown, meaning that every comment got stuck in moderation. Short (and tame) comments had the most chance to get through and reach people in real time, that’s a main reason why most people kept them short. Further, if the comment didn’t go through, which happened quite often, the loss was not that big. At one point it’s simply too tiring to copy every comment to a document on the own computer – and for longer comments we had to resort to that, otherwise the work was just down the drain if it got deleted. There were also tons of banned words: Arianna, Huffington Post, Palin, any reference to violence, but also God, Messiah and what not. (But interestingly NOT Obama!!) So to avoid the censor filter we resorted to that f.unny s_pelling that we’3e now sometimes joking about.
The threads were also moving very fast at times, and to keep up, it was easiest to just briefly banter back and forth. Of course this part was a lot of fun too!

Yet the severe restrictions on Huff, (- yes, it has to be called censoring, for the guidelines are, what the empress wants to hear or not on any given day -) left their marks on many of us. Instead of speaking our minds freely we always had to find ways to squeeze through as much as possible.

As a matter of fact, this had much more impact on me than I realized while I was over there, although my visits there had become considerably fewer. This censoring really is a sort of brainwashing and it does take some time to get adjusted to the freedom just to speak my real mind.

Now bito, with all this information you save a lot of time, energy and pain! There is no need for you to check it out for yourself and endure the ill-treatment we got there…… This system of simply asking is a clever one, I see!!!

I barely survived! But I scooped a lot of the most excellent cream from Ari’s coffee over at the HPoo. Hope those folks come over….

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 9:20 am

My Planet is back!!! Love it!!! President Obama press conference live on c span NOW!

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 8:33 am

Yes, and one we should freely spread.

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 12:56 am

As I said yesterday, you’ve got to hand that to her: Arianna is the first and only middle class “champion” who has 6000 slaves (going by the name of “citizen journalists” though)

» Posted By Truth On February 15, 2011 @ 12:39 am

Yet there is a certain standard of conversation, which I appreciate. That’s what I meant to say.

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 10:31 pm

I see, you didn’t hear my plea earlier. You have to become an author and share your knowledge with a wider audience, that is all of us here. Thanks in advance! 😉

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 10:07 pm

That was exactly how I felt when I went there. LOL!

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 10:05 pm

twitteresque feel

good expression!

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 9:11 pm

bito, are you talking about people on here? If yes, I guess you’d maybe have to allow some more detox time at first. Folks were muzzled over there and are not used anymore to using the full spectrum of their abilities. So it may take a little time to get out of that handicap for a while.
I understand that if the board gets swamped with those messages, it drowns the real flavor on Planet POV. But please consider that we newbies are not adept at the rules yet, what is the standard here and so forth. Therefore I think it would be good if you seniors let us know. I would prefer if you’d do so in a subtle manner, maybe as a suggestion…

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 9:08 pm

Except, well, see above. the one on the main who bashes the President

» Posted By Truth On February 14, 2011 @ 8:54 pm

I was just there to see for myself if it’s true what I’ve read here and posted the following on the main Obama bashing “article”:

“Can we see a pattern here? Every thread is on lockdown, except the one to bash the President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama?”

Funny thing: no pending – no moderation, Barack Obama, President of the United States – no pending.
