Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

“How do you think that sounds to black people, without whom no remotely progressive candidate stands a chance of winning shit in this country at a national level? How does it sound to them — a group that has been more loyal to progressive and left politics than any group in this country — when you praise a man who opposes probably the single most important piece of legislation ever passed in this country, and whose position on the right of businesses to discriminate, places him on the side of the segregated lunchcounter owners? And how do you think they take it that you praise this man, or possibly even support him for president, all so as to teach the black guy currently in the office a lesson for failing to live up to your expectations?”

A great piece comparing Paul to Duke for all those emoprogs out there. You know in weak moments I sometimes wish they WOULD elect him because if we were to survive Paul in the White House, he would be the LAST republican ever elected. Then I get strong again and say WTF were you thinking

Hicks had a good point. I have have a problem with cross symbols. My mom teases me saying I am a witch but there is something about it that gives me the creeps. Maybe after I saw Jesus Christ Superstar and realized it was really state sanctioned murder. Why would I wear a symbol of such a horrendous murder? I bet if I had a necklace made out of one of Hannibal Lector’s prized pieces, Christians would be offended too.

Romney needs to answer for the time he has spent in the Mormon with these types of racist verses in the Book of Mormon. They may have changed the rules regarding AA priests bt not their verses in the Good Book

These two are the epitome of garish Nouveaux Rich, they can earn money but without class, it means nothing. They just have no conception of what it means to be classy.

I got the point, remember that email with one letter either left out or added and you could read the whole paragraph? I am good at that

This is disgusting. As a former business traveler and a woman I learned how to recognize really fast where not to get off with help from other people. People are lazy and they don’t want to think for themselves. Better hone that judgment call though. Without it sooner or later they can find tmselves in a tough situation they don’t know their way out of.

Another thing is that Obama did not go out and short sale GM stock, that was a habit at Bain. They would up and unload all the stock they were holding in a company contributing to it’s collapse. They count on people not understanding the investment world, to pull a fast one. Problem is that people are getting smarter since the crash and they don’t just take WS and their cronies word for it anymore.

In a nutshell they
“offered” to help manage a company
as part of that agreement, the company borrowed in order to pay their management fees
Cutbacks, outsourcing, increased productivity and lousy customer service follow
company reputation suffers, customers flee
Bain dumps stock before it hits the main stream media
Panic on WS and the company collapses, files BK(not reorg), has to sell their company at a reduced rate far below what it would have been before Bain talked them into letting them “help”

Investors dumped GM stock but the government did not. When Obama stepped in, GM stock was already at or below $1, I know I bought GM and Citi, Hostess? Excellent current example……..

On September 22, 2004, Interstate Bakeries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company also named a new chief executive. James R. Elsessor, who had taken over as CEO for Charles Sullivan, was replaced by Tony Alvarez. Interstate Bakery’s stock, which had been at one time $34/share, fell to $2.05/share as they declared bankruptcy. At the time it was the longest bankruptcy in U.S. history. With the leadership of Craig Jung, the company emerged from bankruptcy as a private company on February 3, 2009.[8] The plan included a 50 percent equity stake by Ripplewood Holdings and lines/loans by General Electric Capital and GE Capital Markets, Silver Point Finance and Monarch Master Funding. Interstate’s union workers made contract concessions in exchange for equity.[9]

Since declaring bankruptcy in 2009, Interstate closed nine of its 54 bakeries and more than 300 outlet stores. It also reduced its work force from 32,000 to 22,000 people and pulled out of some markets. In 2009, Hostess Brands did not renew their agreement to produce Sunbeam Bread for the northeastern U.S. LePage Baker’s of Auburn, Maine assumed the contract to produce Sunbeam Bread for that region.[9]
[edit] Hostess Brands, Inc.

Effective November 2, 2009, the company was renamed Hostess Brands, Inc. after the cake division that featured Twinkies and Cupcakes although it continues its bread line including Wonder Bread.[10]
[edit] 2012 Bankruptcy

By December 2011 it was reported that Hostess Brands was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy a second time after it suspended payments for union pensions and was struggling to remain current on its $700 million loan.[11]

On January 10, 2012 Hostess Brands filed For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy for the second time. In a statement in its filing the company said it “is not competitive, primarily due to legacy pension and medical benefit obligations and restrictive work rules.” The company said it employs 19,000 people and carries more than $860 million in debt. The company said it would continue to operate with $75 million debtor-in-possession financing from Monarch Alternative Capital, Silver Point Capital and other investors

Was Tebow’s Win Literally an Act of God?
Submitted by Kyle Mantyla on January 12, 2012 – 1:59pm

Charisma Magazine poses an interesting question: Was the Denver Broncos’ unlikely win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard playoff game last weeked literally an act of God?

Although Tebow can’t put his favorite Bible verse, John 3:16, on his eye black anymore, the set of numbers kept making an appearance in Sunday’s game.

The Christian quarterback’s passing yardage against the Steelers was 316 yards, for an average of 31.6 yards per completion. The SportsBusiness Journal reports that in the final quarter hour of the game—in which Tebow threw the winning pass to Darius Thomas, born on Christmas Day—the TV ratings peaked at 31.6. And the Steelers’ only interception took place at the third down with 16 yards to go.

What do you think? Is this just a coincidence, or an act of God?

Romney Vows to Undo Everything Obama Has Done: ‘I Will Make Bin Laden Alive Again’
Calls Slain al-Qaeda Leader a Job Creator

MANCHESTER, NH (The Borowitz Report) – In a rousing victory speech in New Hampshire last night, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney vowed to undo everything Barack Obama has done as President, promising his supporters, “I will make Osama bin Laden alive again.”

Mr. Romney called the assassination of bin Laden “just one of the many mistakes this President has made,” adding, “Say what you will about Osama bin Laden, the man was a job creator.”

The presumptive GOP nominee said that on his first day in office, “I will get a hold of the DNA of Osama bin Laden and breathe the life-force of capitalism back into it.”

The reanimation of the slain al-Qaeda leader is just the first of many steps Mr. Romney plans to take in his effort to get the USA “back to exactly how it was” before Mr. Obama took office.

“As President, I will immediately close down GM and Chrysler and put thousands of Americans out on the street,” he said. “And then I will try to get a hold of the DNA of Qaddafi.”

At another point in his victory speech, Mr. Romney complained that his controversial remark about “liking to fire people” had been taken out of context: “The full quote was, ‘I like to fire people – and then laugh at them.’”

I hear the tectonic plates of the Republican party are starting to move back and forth and the only question is: Will it be a 2.2 or a 8.0?

“Experts are predicting kind of a tough fight between Romney and his biggest ideological opponent: Mitt Romney from four years ago. Those guys don’t agree on anything.”

I was going to update a post I did in 2010 regarding PE firms and add Mitt Romney’s info (I may still do so) but I did find this cross-posted on The Peoples’ View. Interesting reading and vids on Romney and his life as a corporate raider.

I do as well except for her shallowness. I read her book and did find it entertaining with the exception of her constant “designer” references to all her clothing as well as that of others.

To me that is the least important piece of a person’s make-up. Character will always win out over clothing.

I will probably leave it pretty much the same but will add the info on Mitt’s involvement.

Most of the people on there either did not read your comment or are too busy looking things up to counter or even understand what you said. There is not a lot of substance there.(on the blogs)

Some of the words you used I had to look up but I also read it to the end and your analysis is spot on.

That is a spot on analysis. I am looking to bring back a piece I wrote on this to tie it back to Romney. Waiting for Adlib’s suggestions.

Adlib says it is part of a longer version. I think it might be the movie that Callista helped to produce.

They have reason to be worried, he said today, “I like firing people” lol

Remember the piece I did on Leveraged buyouts? Is it available for me to go back in and update it to compare to Mitt Romney and his antics at Bain Capitol? If so, I would like to go back in, make some changes and relate it to Romney. I could rename it and save it as a diff post, right?
