I read some of the blog at The Other 99% and it sounds like Hitler’s henchmen coming in nighttime raids. Not something I thought I would ever see in the US.
Actually CSPAN covered Occupy DC in a special on their channel and MSNBC and CNN did give the march to Washington a bit of coverage. I understand it is nothing like the Koch Teabag coverage but it is some, they just don’t have the corporate fancy buses that stop at Shoneys for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My suggestion would be to have periodic general strikes over the winter months and other camps where the weather is good they can maintain their occupation, but would probably get more support if they demonstrated in solidarity marches. If they were trying to make a point with the tents to point to homelessness and foreclosures, I am not sure many are getting the idea unless they understand the historical aspect. I don’t know if they ever explained why they are camping, at least in a way that more people understand. And face it, we are a country that has been dumbed down.
I do this ANYTIME I get a mailing from them. I even fill out the apps with funny names like Lucille Ball, Veronica and ARchie, 99 Easy street as an address and then I put one app from Citi in a Discover mailer and on and on. I started doing this back when I realized people who could not afford it were being convinced those homes were worth every penny and more. Or no worries, you can refinance in a few years. I don;t know about you but if I cannot afford a 440k mortgage now, I cannot afford it in a few years. I sold my last big value house in 2003 and took the money and ran.
They also have a terrible record of DUI. I know how to protect myself, but thanks so much for your concern. I know downtown Oakland real well and people were peaceful yesterday. Seems they have been again today. Hopefully any infiltrators will be kept at bay.
I was down there yesterday for a time and tomorrow I will go again. I am home today.
“Foreclose Chase” chants by thousands in front of the bank at 350 20th st. “we got sold out, banks got bailed out.” #oaklandgeneralstrike
No worries, you will get to it when you can but I do value your feedback. I hope you find the post with the suppression links useful as well. I have never done that and actually your efforts in the past was the catalyst for me doing it, so thanks for the example.
I did that all the time before the crash when they were flooding our mail with offers. I had great fun.
When I left Vox last night, I went out and found some info on voter suppression activities by DOJ and other entities. I have a post pending with all the links I found so look for it today or tomorrow.
I left Vox to surf the net for sites on voter suppression and I found alot of info. I wrote a post that is pending with all the info in addition to my earlier post. Just a heads up.
I love what that guy had to say about shaming your friends and family. If I am a 99%er then my family and most friends are surely 99%ers as well.
And the protestors had to take him to the hospital? Jesus the Oakland PD and Mayor Quan need to take care of Scott’s hospital bill and they owe him a big apology. And the police officer needs to be identified and taken down by Internal Affairs. Highland is the county hospital but they are a very good hospital. During the 89 quake a guy was rescued and taken there. He survived some 30 more days and was finally transferred, due to his improving condition, to Kaiser where he died a few days later.

I believe you are 100% on the mark. I have always “resisted authority” that is why I would never make a good evangelical.
