Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

I know, FC! There are still people in line waiting on ballots to be delivered. I thought this was going to be a long night?!?!

Well, I like the tweet that says if Walker wins, he gets indicted and Mitchell becomes the Governor.

But right now I hope NBC had called this too soon and are proved foolish for being too quick. Just like the newspaper were with Harry Truman.

FC, don’t you go giving any of my hugs here to Sue. I have earned them.
But, thank you for your thoughts. 🙂

NBC has called it and gives it to Walker. I would think that it is too early for them to call it.

Thank you, AdLib.

Sherlock, so true! Hey, I see the White Horse is out in an article today.

Mitt Romney and Mormonism’s White Horse Prophecy
http://www.disinfo.com/2012/06/mitt-romney-and-mormonisms-white-horse-prophecy/

This article takes you the Politico article:
Romney’s Mormon faith in spotlight
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0512/76776.html

Didn’t see any of these Christian leaders now supporting Romney saying anything about that, huh, Sherlock?

Okay, totally off topic but may I take this space to say to my favorite Teamster:

Happy 29th Anniversary! May I always be there to hand you the wrench whenever you have your head under the hood of the car and may you always be there to plug in my laptop when we are out working on the car so I can stay on VOX and chat with my friends on the Planet. You are special in too many things to list here but I hope I have told you more then 29 times all of them. I love my Cowboy!

Volt Outsells Other Plug-ins Posting Second-Best Month Since Launch

“May was a solid month for Volt sales, with 1,680 units delivered representing the second-highest month since the car’s launch, and exceeding numbers posted by ostensible rivals.”

“Compared to April’s (expected) downturn of 1,462 Volt sales, last month things went in a more positive direction for GM’s still-proving-itself technological halo, even as new competition has since come online from Toyota.”

And on the same theme: Impeach the Supreme Court?

Ask Michael Dukakis about Citizen United and the Healthcare Bill vs. the Supreme Court.

“Terrible. It has to be one of the five worst decisions by the Supreme Court. [They] call themselves strict constructionists, right? Tell me where it says in the Constitution that money is speech. Tell me where it says Congress cannot reasonably regulate campaign contributions. It’s been doing so for 120 years. All of a sudden these guys decide, not only is money speech but corporate money is speech. Outrageous, in my opinion. It’s polluting the political process.

“And there is no constitutional issue about this health-care bill. Scalia a few years ago wrote an opinion saying the federal government could regulate somebody’s backyard marijuana patch under the commerce clause, because that patch had an indirect effect on interstate commerce. You’re talking about 20 percent of the GNP with health care, and the federal government can’t regulate it? Don’t employers have to pay a minimum wage under the commerce clause? If they turn this down, those guys ought to be impeached, honest to God. There’s no constitutional issue here.”

I love it, Justice Stevens! Let’s use their scare tactics with “the terrorist will use it!” How do they defend that?

Justice Stevens: Citizens United Ruling Will Fall Apart

Stevens said Wednesday night, according to prepared remarks. “It will be necessary to explain why the First Amendment provides greater protection to the campaign speech of some non-voters than to that of other non-voters.”

Stevens argued that a later decision to circumscribe First Amendment rights when political speech benefits terrorist organizations reveals a potentially fatal flaw in the premise of Citizens United. “I think it necessarily follows that such speech made or financed by the terrorist organization itself would receive no constitutional protection,” he said.

If foreign entities are barred from bankrolling U.S. elections, then the court is conceding that “the identity of some speakers may provide a legally acceptable basis for restricting speech.”

Not only would that require the court to explicitly explain why corporations meet the standard (Stevens argues they shouldn’t because they can’t vote), it would also bring into question the blurring of lines between issue advocacy and campaign speech in Citizens United.

In Fight With Monsanto, Mother Nature Doesn’t Quit
(And, this poison goes in our food and into our stomachs!)

“Monsanto has banked a fortune by selling a corn seed that it genetically manipulated to produce corn plants that won’t die when sprayed with the Roundup toxic weedkiller. Not coincidentally, Monsanto also happens to manufacture Roundup. It profits from the seed and from the huge jump in Roundup sales that the seed generates. Slick.”
“calling for more brute force in the form of Dow’s new genetically altered corn seed that can absorb Dow’s super-potent 2,4-D weedkiller, which it markets under the “Enlist” brand name. Use this stuff, he says, and nature will be defeated.”
“Wrong. Nature doesn’t quit. The weeds will keep evolving and will adapt to Dow’s high-tech fix, too. By pushing the same old thing relentlessly, says an independent crop scientist, agribusiness interests “ratchet up [America’s] dependence on the use of herbicides, which is very much a treadmill.”

Will Scott Walker Get a Pink Slip, an Orange Jumpsuit or a Second Chance?

(I think Walker would look good in orange. Once in prison, he can wear the pink slip. Don’t drop the soap in the shower, Walker.)

“When Current TV’s David Shuster broke the story on Friday that Walker was a “target” of the investigation he cited anonymous sources. On Saturday, Walker issued a strong denial, saying any suggestions that he has become a target of the John Doe probe are “100 percent wrong.” Late on Saturday, Shuster revealed more. “I stand by my reporting 100 percent,” Shuster said in a conference call reported by the Progressive Magazine, citing sources with the U.S. Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, and clarifying that there is a parallel federal investigation. Shuster also said that Walker’s attorneys had been seeking to have their client publicly cleared of wrongdoing for the last five or six weeks, but prosecutors would not clear him.”
“Walker has hired high-powered criminal defense lawyers and is using a portion of his $30 million raised for the campaign to pay legal bills being run up by his campaign attorneys and his personal criminal defense attorneys, over $320,000 combined so far.”

How California Could Force the Rest of the US to Label GMO Foods

“A recent national poll by the Mellman Group found that 91 percent of respondents favored GMO labeling, a result that was roughly consistent among Democrats, Republicans, and independents. The fact that they want that information suggests that they may be willing to act on it.”

“If they do, they’ll initially find that the only way to avoid GMOs is to buy certified-organic products, which by USDA code can’t contain GMOs. As of last year, genetically modified seeds accounted for 94 percent of US soy and three-quarters of corn and cotton (which makes it into the food supply in the form of cottonseed oil, a popular fat for the food industry). A move to labeling would likely create a robust market in non-GMO, conventional versions of those crops, giving large-scale farmers incentive to transition away from GMOs and cutting into the profits of giants like Monsanto, Syngenta, and DuPont. If a substantial percentage of them did, that would be a hard blow to the profit plans of the big agrichemical companies, whose business models are based on constant growth, not shrinkage.”

Ending Lockout, Teamsters Wrap Agreement With Sotheby’s

“The small group of workers fought hard, taking aim at Sotheby’s board members, picketing, and speaking out in the middle of pricey charity events attended by 1 percenters. Their creative tactics and direct action pushed hard against the takeaways their employer demanded, keeping members and supporters engaged in a long campaign that didn’t just surrender to the rules of labor law that box in unions.”

Losing faith in Democrats’ religious outreach (Really?? For Heaven’s sake!)

“I think there is a viable religious left who can be persuaded by a carefully articulated religious argument, but no one is making it,” said Valerie Cooper, a religious studies professor at the University of Virginia and Obama supporter. “I’m concerned that the administration has not followed through on the promise of 2008.”
“I get frustrated when I talk to evangelical friends or students and they ask, ‘How can you be a Christian and a Democrat?'” Cooper said.”

(Well, I hope she asked them back, “How can you act like a Republican and not a Christian?”)

“Recently, evangelical, Orthodox Jewish, Catholic and Mormon leaders helped form in every state a new network of caucuses dedicated to religious liberty, with the birth control mandate as their initial focus.”

“Catholics, who comprised about one-quarter of the electorate in 2008, haven’t voted in a bloc for decades, but the candidate who wins the most Catholic votes usually wins the election.”

ChoiceLady, give them HELL for me! 😉

Well, I don’t know if he really is admitting to it but more like just preparing should it happen:

Obama Has Finally Admitted That The Supreme Court Could Destroy His Healthcare Reform

“President Barack Obama is confiding to Democratic donors that he may have to revisit the health-care issue in a second term, a position at odds with his publicly expressed confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will uphold the Affordable Care Act, according to three Democratic activists.
As he previewed his agenda for donors at a May 14 fundraiser, Obama said he may be forced to try to revise parts of his health-care plan, depending on how the court rules later this month, said one activist, who requested anonymity to discuss the president’s comments.”

“Bloomberg’s Hans Nicols has also uncovered strategic memos outlining how the White House and pro health-care reform groups will respond if all or part of the law is overturned:
“The best way to demonstrate public outrage or public celebration about the decision is to stage an event that shows average people actually responding to the news,” according to the memo, e-mailed on May 16 by an official at the Herndon Alliance, a coalition of groups that backs the health-care overhaul.
At least Democrats are working on their strategy if the Supreme Court overturns Obamacare.
Republicans still have no idea what their strategy will be.”

Now Kes, she wasn’t always duped, she did campaign and vote for Obama. She did a lot to get him attention from her audience base. I rarely watched her myself because I was working way back when and now I don’t watch much TV during the hours she was on. I have never watched anything on her new network. Oh, occasionally on the OWN channel. She is a smart business woman, that is for sure. She has kinda got into a spiritual thing lately, I think. If she is really taken by this outfit, she needs her head check out and not by Dr. Phil! But, I have been gullible and a dupe before myself. This is my second marriage but I did wise up! 🙂
