He has released his tax returns every year he has been President which makes it 10 or 11 now. The point of the article is that Romney says he is doing the “standard”. Again, Romney isn’t wrong about McCain releasing just two years of returns. And Romney may decide to stick to that “precedent.” But his comments imply that the two years released by McCain is standard, and that he has been unfairly asked to release more than others have in the past. In fact, with the lone exception of McCain, all candidates over the last 30 years each have released more than two years of tax returns. FORMER FLORIDA REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIR SAYS REPUBLICANS ACTIVELY SUPPRESSED THE BLACK VOTE | In a 630-page deposition, released to the press yesterday, former Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer described a systemic effort by Republicans to suppress the black vote. Referring to a 2009 meeting with party officials, Greer said “I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting.” He also said party officials discussed how “minority outreach programs were not fit for the Republican Party.” Florida is currently embroiled in a controversy surrounding Gov. Rick Scott’s (R) voter purge program, which disproportionately affects voters of color. Fifty-eight percent of Scott’s original list of voters who were supposedly ineligible to voter were Hispanic while Hispanics make up only 13 percent of Florida’s eligible voters. And here’s the thing: Mr. Romney is running for president entirely on the basis of his business success. In a better world he could be running on the basis of his successful health reform, but now he’s condemning that very achievement.
In a better world he could actually be running on the basis of coherent policy ideas, but instead he’s offering nothing but a mix of tax cuts for the rich and benefit cuts for the middle class so extreme that focus groups refuse to believe that this is his actual proposal.

GUN CONTROL OPPONENTS OUTSPEND ADVOCATES 25 TO 1 | Advocates for gun rights have spent nearly 25 times more in Washington than gun control supporters since 2009, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Led by the National Rifle Association, one of the most well known and powerful lobbying forces in politics, gun rights organizations spent $17.4 million on lobbying Congress and the Department of the Interior — about $5 million per year. Besides formal lobbying, these groups have flooded elections with cash; the NRA alone has donated about $2.8 million to state and federal politicians in the past 3 years and has already spent $60,000 on ads attacking President Obama during this election cycle. Republican politicians are their top beneficiaries, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Sen. John Thune (R-SD), and Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV).
