They just had this dumb reporter on TV walking through the park saying how sad it looked (showing mud) and there was drug paraphanalia and trash, etc etc. Then she stopped a guy with a trash bag asking him what he was doing and wasn’t he worried about picking up something dangerous? The guy said that they try to keep the park clean but there are people that come in there to party but they are not part of the protest and are asked to leave. He also told her that it in not unusal to come across a needle in the parks or on the beach. You wear gloves and protection. And Portland is one of the grass capitals in the world and the grass will be reseeded and it will grow back. Look, I didn’t say it was their movement but they started it for all. It is those on the street and in the camps. Like I said give your imput when asked but don’t try to run it. They don’t want that. These young people admire our movements but they think we have screwed up since. They have to try it their way. I don’t disagree with you that they need more focus but that is something they will have to figure out how to handle. They have ordered the Occupiers to leave the parks by 12:00 midnight. They have been very peaceful. There was about 500 in the park but today the crowd as grown to thousands (perhaps 5000). Many have left the park but some are holding strong. Now they have brought our mounted police in. They are pushing into the crowd on the horses. (We love our mounted police. We fought to keep them when they tried to discontinue them and we were able to keep them.) Now they are using them on the crowd. But as I type they have now pulled back the horses because that was just upsetting everyone. And, we aren’t all drug users or dealers. But, it is here and there are those that use. It doesn’t take a protest to find it.
Keep Portland Weird is because it is the most liberal part of the state. The rest of the state thinks that all the weird are here. Yes we are!
Who called out the police? The parks downtown are resodded each year for the most part anyway. (these are small parks not national parks) Than there are reporters saying stuff like, “Why don’t they go protest where it can do some good. Occuping Portland doesn’t really do anything.” Really??
It is so interesting to listen to the live feed and the MSM on TV at the same time. The live feed is the protesters and they are so calm about everything and the reporters make it sound like everything and anything is about to happen. (Of course they want excitement to report.)
The protesters say they are not upset with the police because they are part of the 99. (I hope the police stay as calm as the protesters.)
