Abortions are down but up among the poor. Why? Well, contraception is not cheap regardless what Santorum says. And, the poor can’t afford to increase their family when they can’t feed, cloth and shelter the children they already have and they don’t have a job! The GOP doesn’t believe in welfare/food stamps. You are being interviewed by one of those Bishops and he asks you if you are on birth control. Does he have that right? Does he have the right to say you are not qualified for the job if you are on birth control? No, of course he can’t do that legally. So, is this another “Don’t ask, Don’t tell”? No, but it is a personal issue that has no bearing on your qualifications. And, it is certainly none of his business. Anymore than he has the right to take away your right to that benefit under the ACA because you are working for a hospital that is open to all faiths but he is enforcing his on you by not providing. The President has made that coverage available to those nurses that are not of the Bishop’s faith but works at that hospital. That is wonderful but I feel it should never have been an issue. My biggest problem with all this is that women’s health issues are such a big issue in this election and in this Congress! Santorum wants to do away with all contraceptives. This in an election is stupid. That is really pushing your religion on everyone!
Nor does this change the original problem of the church in business for profit inforcing their beliefs on all that work for them regardless of the individuals beliefs.
