(When I cut and past the smilie HML (correct abbreviation??) into the dialogue box, nothing happens; when I cut an past the same HML into the image box, I get a gigantic smilie.) Any help would be appreciated, » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 22, 2011 @ 12:33 pm …here goes (for a small as opposed to gigantic smilie): http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy114.gif » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 22, 2011 @ 12:30 pm FYI: I just posted a Tea Party/Patriot call to anti-union protest in Lansing, Michigan on the “Wisconsin, what does it really mean?” post. “They” are organizing. Like you, I’m watching as events unfold in Wisconsin and still finding it difficult to fathom. Does Walker think that the state of Wisconsin is a his own private dictatorship or what?? » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 21, 2011 @ 12:22 pm It’s President’s Day here in the midwest. (The smaller collegs have closed due to snow…either way, it’s a day off for public school children. :)) » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 21, 2011 @ 10:45 am The “averages for groups” was interesting. In any event, I was tagged Very Progressive with a score of 318 out of 400. (Some of the questions were over-simplified given the nuances of the issues presented–for those I just chose “5”.) » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 18, 2011 @ 7:47 pm I wish I had time…I’m originally from Michigan, and few things dishearten me more than the fact that most Americans don’t know the bloody history of the auto industry strikes: the rights for labor to organize and collectively bargain were hard won. The current conflict in Wisconsin is of no little historical significance; nor is its resolution of no little consequence for workers in the rest of the nation. It is imperative that the Republicans lose this particular fight. » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 18, 2011 @ 1:21 am Oh, jeez!! :0) » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 16, 2011 @ 5:55 am {{{{BDM}}}} :0( » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 16, 2011 @ 5:52 am Greetings Escribacat, I tend to “hit and run” with posts and comments…I’m sorry it’s taken a day to reply. (And I have to “hit and run” now as I help get the little guy out of the house and on the bus on time!! ;0) I agree with you that peace with Israel won’t become an issue for Egypt, but not, as you’ve suggested, due to a nation’s government being a representative democracy as opposed to a dictatorship, but because Egypt is second to Israel in monetary aid from the U.S.: the Egyptian military has no plans to threaten the golden pot. It’s also the case that if anti-Israeli sentiment were enough to threaten Israel, Israel would have gone under long ago…it’s not beloved generally given the history of war and expansion (as opposed to anti-Semitism per se)–and then there’s the “Palestinan Question” which affects neighboring ME nations and that but for Israel wouldn’t be an issue. And so on. Israel is probably the most heavily armed nation-state in the Middle East. None of her neighbers is going to contemplate hot hostilities lightly…if it does happen, it won’t be due to a dictatorship, but rather to religious fanatism (which is always good for a few wars, a la the Protestants and Catholics in Europe ;0). (I.e., don’t take ’em too seriously…have fun. ;0) » Posted By Redemption Song II On February 15, 2011 @ 12:46 am Hi Brito, I’m another newbie. I, for one, assumed “Time Out for Off Topic” was a space for, well, whatever one wants to talk about. (If that’s not the case, do “set me straight”. :0) As for shorter posts, they might be a function of what time people have to devote to blogging as opposed to sheer laziness or being intellectually challenged. I say this with an admitted vested interest: on the one hand, I’m v. intereted in reading others’ work and commenting; on the other hand, I’m a working single mom who, when she writes, has to write to publish as part of her bread and butter. If I spend time writing anything deep, it has to be deep enough to pass peer review. On that note, I literally don’t have time to write a full article for POV although (it should be apparent by now :0) I do have time to comment every so often. I would also echo others’ “take” on bruised HuffPosters (and I’m one of their number): time will wittness a dropping off of expatriate commiseration. In any event, I’ve felt very welcomed at The Planet. It’s a nice space and, like most immigrants, although we necessarily carry our past with us, we’re also eager to become part of (what is for us) a brave, new world. Off to write a (not-so-inspiring) lecture on informal fallacies; will pop in sometime on Wednesday.
