Displaying 91 To 120 Of 213 Comments Greetings Adonai, I have disagree that Wallace isn’t racist, but is merely a dumb college kid; indeed, racism doesn’t have an “age start date”–children can be (and too often are) racists, as taught by their families and communities: Wallace just is an anti-Asian racist, and was called on it if not by the university, then by her peers. (Given the national legal battle during the 80s-early 90s regarding campus racist hate-speech, UCLA, it seems, decided to “sit this one out”.) That said, I agree with you that death threats “aren’t cool” although racist hate speech isn’t cool either (although, as per my nerd membership, I have to agree with her in part that people should not talk on their cell phones in the library–it’s rudely inconsiderate no matter the offender’s race, ethnicity or national origin). Kind regards, » Posted By Redemption Song On March 20, 2011 @ 8:07 am I’m going to be a twerp by posting a link and then directly signing off (to write a quiz and force my poor child to practice writing and mathematics), but this article, and the comments that follow, were interesting: “UCLA Won’t Discipline Creator of Controversial Video, Who Later Withdraws From University” (LATimes) http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-ucla-speech-20110319,0,6304016.story » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 3:59 pm (Because you should…because the students are guided by heart and intelligence, and you feel connected given that it’s your old stomping ground?) (Just a guess, mind you. ;0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 3:55 pm V. cool. :0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 3:31 pm The little guy and I are waiting impatiently…it promises to be spectacular. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 2:44 pm Very cool…thanks for the link, Buddy!! » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 2:42 pm Everyone: Tonight, Saturday, February 19th = “Supermoon” (i.e., the moon will be extremely close to the earth AND visible); also, right after dusk, on the western horizon, Jupiter will be visible. (Telescope ready and waiting.) Cheers! :o) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 10:37 am Truth, McCain is twisted, ergo, nothing parting from his lips is straight. (While I’ll agree that panic is seldom helpful, I also very much agree with your implication that the unexamined acceptance of nuclear power as safe per se, or that the risks just are acceptable, is naive at best.) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 9:40 am (NYT) “Japan Confirms High Radiation in Spinach and Milk Near Nuclear Plant” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/20/world/asia/20japan.html?_r=1&hp » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 6:11 am …my fingers are crossed that she’ll stay there, although I know there’s no such luck. :0( » Posted By Redemption Song On March 19, 2011 @ 6:05 am I’m impressed…and would happily send him a dozen yellow roses. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 18, 2011 @ 12:26 pm BillO’s face for the top of the scale is “oh-so-perfect”. (The enormity of his misinformation campaign continues to muddle the right wing masses.) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 18, 2011 @ 10:44 am I couldn’t get through it, Abby, (there it is…I’m a wimp!), but I think it’s very important to understand from where people are coming. Thank you for posting the link. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 12:43 pm jkk, A&E did a very nice, close interpretations of Wolfe/Goodman with Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton & of Marple with Joan Hickson; and I thought Geraldne McEwan’s Marple was great fun–very warm, human and mischievous. :0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 12:40 pm Ooooo…I’ll look for him in the library tomorrow!! :0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 12:35 pm Bachmann is a pint in a quart bottle. :* » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 12:33 pm Happy St. Paddy’s, Budy!! Continuing on the duck theme (I *love* ducks :0), Boynton’s “Be Like a Duck” (it takes a moment to get started, but I think that might be the point):
» Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 12:28 pm Greetings Nana, Hypertension is deadly serious: please do whatever you need to do in order to stay healthy and happy now and well into the future. (FYI, my favorite destressors are “popcorn” detective novels, esp. Rex Stout’s Nero Wolf and Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. :0) Warmest hugs, » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 2:47 am …some good (albeit still sad) news: _Salon_ “Police Smash ‘World’s Largest’ Online Pedophilia Ring” » Posted By Redemption Song On March 17, 2011 @ 1:17 am Reasonable. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 6:37 pm “U.S. Calls Radiation ‘Extremely High,’ Sees Japan Nuclear Crisis Worsening” (NYT) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/17/world/asia/17nuclear.html?_r=1&hp » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 6:34 pm I’m finding myself becoming indifferent to nutty people…I’m simply tired of them. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 5:42 pm Thanks for the chuckle. :0) (Otherwise, it’s all very depressing…) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 5:31 pm …at first my seven year old laughed, then he abrubtly stopped and said, “Actually, that’s not very funny. At least it’s not funny from my perspective.” *Eye roll.* (Actually, Mom doesn’t think he “got” it…in any event, the joke made her chuckle. :0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 1:29 pm I’m probably one of the few people on this site that’s never smoked marijuana…the only drug I’ve tried is alcohol and I’ve only been inebriated once, intentionally with three drinks, to see what it felt like. (Once was enough.) I don’t say I’m good, mind you; I only say, “When I’m bad, I’m fully aware.” ;0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 6:20 am My son spotted two geese flying overhead a couple of days ago (perhaps hoping to nest together?); my favorites, however, are ducks (hilarious on land, astonishingly graceful in water and in the air). Me and my bread crumbs await them with happy anticipation. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 6:15 am Hoping to live long and prosper, perhaps. (I know I am. ;0) » Posted By Redemption Song On March 16, 2011 @ 6:11 am I’m often blunt (with no intended malice, believe me), but this man’s disturbance of your peace of mind is emotionally abusive in the first instance; that he would come to your home at night uninvited is stalking and enough for a personal protection order. If nothing more, do tell your children, and neighbors, about this man’s inappropriate behavior…and if there is a particularly strong personality among your familiars, you might want to have someone set this guy straight (or lay him flat, whatever works ;0). » Posted By Redemption Song On March 15, 2011 @ 6:07 pm Just saw that this is posted earlier by Cher on the MB. –RS » Posted By Redemption Song On March 13, 2011 @ 4:09 pm …this [Walker’s threat to fire] is absolutely stunning. » Posted By Redemption Song On March 13, 2011 @ 3:04 pmComments Posted By Redemption Song
