The food world is going to contract. Perhaps those of us in the Northern climes can get rich by building greenhouses in order to grow exotic fare like bananas. It’s gonna be a different world. We plant in the same place so need petrochemical fertilizers. Fertilized plants tend to be more susceptible to disease so we need petrochemical persticides. When the oil runs out and it will be soon, all the growth we’ve experienced… all technology and food and population growth is because we’ve gorged ourselves on the “devil’s excrement”… is going to contract. At some point, the President (whom I really adore) could jumpstart a dialog instead of having the grassroots and “time” be the determinants for a movement. Time is of the essence. “Being blamed” is not a good enough reason for staying silent on an issue of political subversion. Obama would not have to say much. In fact, he could be quite subtle about it. He could acknowledge it in such a way that those who are rebelling are heartened and continue their fight. We need a match on the kindling. Dems have way too much patience. That some here vocalize concern how the President will be perceived by his opponents is precisely the problem Dems have. They are allowing the opposition define them… all the time. Obama should publicly fall on one side or the other on this and not remain a Rohrshach. People need definition in times of uncertainty. This is where Obama’s deliberate style can be read as apathy and that is not a stimulus for continuing a fight.
