Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

I know it’s been a while, and I apologize, but I’ve been very busy settling in and looking for a something to do for a living.

One thing that I have been able to accomplish is to get HRH Maggie acclimatized to the NorthWoods. As you can see, she’s found the swamp, and likes to channel her “Inner Panther” on our walks.

Although, going through two HUGE storms in Arkansas and Missouri with a cat on my lap and driving a UHaul with a car trailer might be interesting. Sneaking a cat into Motel 8’s for 2 nights, taking her for walks at 2 AM, stuff like that… LOL

We had an adventure, and Maggie was a real trouper. She nested in the jump seat and just curled up when we were on the road. Now we’re here and she’s getting used to to two cats and they to her. Also an adventure!

They’re getting along OK… lots of territory being staked out, and little moans and meows along the way, but there’s no blood on the floor.

Jasper, the male, keeps following Maggie around and she’s ignoring the hell out of him.

I still see little patches of crusted snow in the deep shaded parts of the woods yet. It’s just now warming up to be in the 70’s during the day here. last Monday when I got here, there was snow in the air. Nothing sticking, but just drifting down.

HRH took a sniff and walked away….!!!!

Clearly way too small for her tastes!

She’s having fun exploring the woods behind the house. There are deer and bear and raccoons and chipmunks and all sorts of stuff she’s new to.

She heard a hawk cry a couple of days ago when we were on a walk, and she headed back to the house like immediately. Hawk, eagles, and owls can be a problem for cats around here. Cats tend to become dinner in a hurry.

Adonai – All these guys get ‘handlers’ when they hit the Big Time. I have always thought it is a mistake. People LOVED Harry Truman for swearing and threatening to beat up a reporter for insulting his daughter. He even had to be hauled off a guy that was trying to assassinate him!

Just once I’d love to see a candidate be him or her self. I know the MSM would have a field day, but it could be done. And I would wager big bucks it would go over well in the end.

jkk – I read this article, and I’m not surprised, and it answers the question “Where are the jobs?”

What struck me was why or when legislators say “no” to meeting with lobbyists?

No rule says they have to meet with or listen to these schmucks. I know that this is where the reelection money is, but there have to be SOME brave souls in DC! I would bet the Bernie Sanders doesn’t waste his time, and he gets reelected every time.

This is a self-inflicted wound, IMO!

One thing I always point out…

If you look at the cost of getting a barrel of oil out of the ground, the 20-year average is $17.07.

It is clear that the cost of getting a barrel out of the ground and the price on the commodity trading floors around the world have nothing to do with one another.

jkk – I can be a squinty-eyed business guy, and am a tough negotiator, and value logic and numbers, but in the end, I am a big mushy guy.

I believe that when you decide to take on a pet, you are responsible for the well being of that pet, and all that that entails.

Maggie’s well being is my biggest worry in this move, frankly. My daughter has two cats, and I am very concerned about them all getting along. They are older, male and female, declawed, so blood on the floor will not be an issue, but stress can be hard on an animal.

jkk – She’s doing ok here in the apartment, really. Lots of new places to hide and explore. Right now she’s racked out on top of a bag of packing peanuts.

I can tell she’s worried every time I stir myself and start packing another box, though.

I broke down and bought a nice soft sided carry kennel for her last week, and have left it open on the floor in the corner. She likes to sleep in that sometimes, so I hope she’ll be happy to ride in it on the shotgun seat. I’ll leave the door open for her to come and go as she pleases, unless I’m in a place where I need to move her safely.

I try to think stuff through…

jkk – the Medicare issue aside, what I consider to be most heinous is the effort to stiff veterans. I’m sorry, but when you enter into service, you give up your rights as a citizen, and are literally owned by the government. In return, there are certain things that are promised to you, a contract, in essence.

For politicians to then turn around and eliminate those things that were promised, especially to people that risk their lives at most, and give up a part of themselves at least, is unspeakable to me.

I don’t have a clue why any veteran anywhere supports these skidmarks.

jkk – Leaving day after tomorrow. I should be Up North by Tuesday at the latest, probably sometime Monday. It’s been a long 2 weeks, sorting through all my crap, tossing out stuff I really don’t use but never got rid of, packing, packing, and more packing. Sigh!

My lower back is killing me, and ibuprophen along with a shiatsu massage pillow I have is the only thing saving me. Fortunately, my brother has lined up 5 or 6 very large young guys to come up Saturday morning and load up the truck, so all I’ll have to do is direct traffic.

Maggie is a little lost soul through all of this. All of a sudden, what she has come to know is all ripped up and boxes and bags are everywhere, so she’s been a little clingy. I’m trying to be very supportive. I got some herbal “calming treats” from the pet store that might help her on the trip. We’ll see, but I’m not worried. The girl’s a trouper.

jkk – I once had a downstairs neighbor that loved to play loud music late into the night. Since I was a military instructor and had to get up at 4:30 every morning to get to class, it was an issue for me. I spoke with him politely more than once about it. Didn’t help.

I knew he liked to sleep late on Sundays, so, one Sunday morning about 7 AM, I put my 4 stereo speakers face down on the floor, put on an LP of Souza marches that I got special for the occasion, set it to repeat endlessly, cranked it up to 8 on the volume, and took a 4 hour drive in the country.

End of problem.

Patsy – As far as I know (and I may be wrong), Donald Trump has NEVER had an investment or deal that made money for the investors/stockholders. He has personally made big bucks on his towers, casinos, and golf courses, but I do believe that each and every one has, in the end, gone belly up.

DT is a total scam artist, in it for himself. I watched the first half season of his show a couple of years ago, and I am not impressed with his so-called business acumen.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s little better than Bernie Madoff and that ilk, and only one step above a carnival barker.

Adonai – I haven’t shaved my face since the day I got out of the Army in 1975… I’ve always kept my beard neat and trim, simply for low maintenance. I’ve always been jealous of guys that could go full-on ZZTop, though. Takes some work, but it’s always impressive. Since I’m bald, I never thought it would look right anyway.

So, my advice is to think about maintenance and decide how much effort you want to put into grooming. Since I’m essentially a lazy bastid, I keep mine short.

bito – OMG!!!! Dick Biondi!!! I haven’t heard/seen that name in decades! I used to listen to WLS under the covers when I was a kid up in Oneida County, and Biondi was the MAN! I even remember the night he told a “dirty” joke on air and got canned on the spot!

Fox – UhOh! Drafted for the politics of Northern Wisconsin! Yikes! Might be interesting, though… It’s an interesting place. Real backwoods types that tend to be very conservative, but not crazy, for the most part. They just want to be left alone and pay as few taxes as necessary, hate waste… very practical people, again, for the most part.
