Oh, no doubt. I am quite familiar with the M-16, and the M-14. AR-15s are basically the same thing as an M-16, and you are quite right. They are combat rifles and have no place in civilian hands. They are specifically designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible.

I’d like to see all semi-autos banned. People can get by just fine with revolvers, bolt or lever action rifles and shotguns. The precious 2nd amendment would not be violated.

Thanks Aquarius! Every decent, law abiding American has to stand up and demand that our gun laws change, and change drastically.

In America, we the people, which includes our elected representatives, are supposed to “provide for the common welfare.” How can we be providing for the common welfare of our citizens, if we allow any lunatic with an ID, go into a gun store or gun show and walk out with a machine that was designed solely for killing humans?

As long as we do nothing, we fail in our duty as Americans, to “provide for the common welfare.” The NRA is in league with anybody that has a twisted desire to kill fellow Americans en masse, whenever the insane urge strikes them.

We all have a responsibility to do as much as we possibly can to at least limit the number of casualties per shooting. The government, on every level, also has a duty to do everything they can to stop this insanity as best they can.

My pleasure Kalima. I just had to release some genuine feelings about this terrible problem that exists, has existed for too long now, and will certainly continue.

All decent, law abiding Americans who have even the slightest notion of what a social compact is, should be doing everything in their power to make our voices heard and that voice, in grand unison should be shouting to the rooftops…..NO MORE!

It’s not like we’re going to suddenly cure mental illness, or change people’s core beliefs (twisted or not), but we most certainly can take real world measures to make it as difficult as possible for sick people to kill en masse. Every nation has it’s societal problems, but no nation on Earth, that I know of, has America’s particular gun violence problem.

It was utterly shameful that republicans fought against common sense gun reforms even after 21, 6-7 year old children were gunned down like they we beer cans on a fence.

unfortunately America is in the throes of a building spiritual sickness, where money and power mean everything to far too many of our elected representatives. You’re absolutely correct that we need to weed out these greedy, power lusting reprobates from our Congress.

Holy Jeebus, if Trump isn’t enough of an embarrassment to America, these senseless killings surely are. There is no valid reason we can’t get tough on gun violence and still keep that “precious,” 2nd amendment in tact.

How many dead and wounded will it finally take?

Thanks Homie. You’re absolutely correct about working within the system to get these killing machines off the market. The Bundys of this country may have learned something in the recent past about armed confrontation with the US government. As powerful as these weapons are against helpless, trapped civilians, they would not be very effective at all against armored vehicles and attack helicopters. Any fool who thinks he’s going to win against our military might is completely deluded and hasn’t the brains of a fence post.
I sincerely hope that Senator Murphy’s bold filibuster will inspire more of our representatives in Congress, to find the political and moral courage needed to stand up and say NO MORE.

I’d run for office if it weren’t for my old life in the fast lane and lack of a formal college education. But, I can still vote and sign petitions and write my congress critters. That is something we all can do, and need to do in massive numbers.
I don’t want my daughter to have to live in a society in which she can be gunned down in cold blood, for trying to buy a fucking slice of pizza somewhere, or take part in a parade or peaceful protest, or just doing her job so she can earn a living.

A Moment of Silence Says It All About GOP Policies

No more half measures, in my opinion. America just has too many unstable people, ready to snap. Unfortunately, it’s always a small percentage of people who ruin things for everybody else. It’s past time to say, NO MORE!
No civilian needs anything more than a bolt action rifle, a 6 shot revolver or a shotgun. We could outlaw all other types of semi-auto weapons, including handguns and still keep the 2nd amendment in tact.
Nowhere in that amendment does it mention anything about semi-auto or full auto weaponry. Of course not, because when it was written, there were no such weapons. I would like to add, that we no longer need civilian militias, which is one huge reason why the 2nd was adopted.

Hey jj! I do think we should ban all semi-auto firearms for civilian use. The real issue here is, for me, weapons that make it easy to kill en masse. Most of the mass shooters who have been stopped, were stopped when they tried to reload. Nobody is going to just hang around and let a homicidal maniac reload. They’re either going to run, or fight the shooter.

We’re never going to stop, or even accurately predict when a nut case is going to snap and start killing people. Maybe we will in some far off future, but certainly not in any foreseeable future.

We can do this and still keep the 2nd amendment in tact. There are millions of responsible gun owners in America, but they get drowned out by the NRA and the media.

We’ll never completely end gun violence, but we sure can reduce the number of casualties.

Hey Ad. Among republicans and gun nuts in general, it is always some other cause, or fault, other than the killing machines themselves. Blaming Muslim extremism is just another “squirrel,” that is a favorite of theirs, unless of course it’s a fanatical Christian fundie doing the shooting. Then it’s our failing mental health system (one that repubs would love to do away with, insurance wise), or PTSD or some other culprit other than the obscene proliferation of guns in our culture.

I readily admit that we’ll never be able to stop this sort of atrocity, 100%. Human beings are fallible and aggressive. That’s not going to change anytime soon, but we CAN do things, to take measures that will definitely reduce the number of casualties from these periods of madness. We have it within our power to ban all semi-auto weapons. To make backround checks more thorough, to improve our mental health care, and build systems of checks against people suspected of terrorist ties.
What we lack, as a society, and as a government, is the moral courage and intelligence in leadership that is necessary. We need to put our giant, collective foot down and say, enough is enough.
No civilian needs these killing machines. There is no valid reason for a civilian to have such devastating firepower at his/her disposal.
Of course the GOPers are not going to blame themselves or the NRA or even the guns. It’s always some other cause, or fault, with these morons.

If Superdelegates Weren’t a Fraud, Could they Help the Dems Win the White House?

Hey Homie. My point about sweeping change is, it’s just not possible, for Bernie or anybody else. The republicans are going to be just as vile and uncooperative as they’ve been during president Obama’s near 8 years.

I doubt that there is anybody in DC who dislikes the republicans more than Hillary. They have tried to make her life a living hell, since her husbands administration.

I think Hillary would be able to whip more votes in favor of her policies than Bernie would. He shoots for the moon, and that is simply not how things happen in DC. He knows that better than the voters do. He’s got some great ideas, but if you can’t get cooperation on those ideas, what good are they?

I think Sanders has done a good thing for America by running and changing the national conversation. I do commend him for that, but it’s over for his presidential bid. He knows it.

The big difference is, Ad, that Hillary has always been a loyal democrat, since she got over her Goldwater Girl phase. That cannot be said of Sanders. Hillary never attacked the party like Sanders has been doing. I just find that off putting. And I am not the only one.

It’s over for Bernie, and he should let the remaining primary voters have their say, and bow out,especially if he believes what he says about protecting progressivism. Sanders should know more than anybody, the dangerous game he’s playing now. He knows how vile the republicans are, most likely more so than you or I do.

We simply disagree on this. And that’s fine. I never expect everybody to agree with me, on everything, or a lot of things, in my case.

Hey Homie. Even if Sanders managed to get the white house, the sweeping change he promises would not happen. Incrementalism is the only way to get any progress accomplished in DC. Hillary readily admits that, because it’s just a sad fact.
I also don’t believe that a pure progressive/liberal, or a pure conservative makes for a good president. A good leader must know when to be liberal and when to take a more conservative approach. I think president Obama has proven that, time and again.
No candidate, president or human being is perfect. Of course you know this already.
