However, by doing this, they are also “nullifying” more than $1 billion in federal funding. (Kind of like how you have to have a speed limit in order to get federal highway dollars). $1 billion is a lot of money for a state like Montana. That’s $1,000 for every man, woman and child in the state. A Republican legislator (colour me shocked) has introduced a bill saying the state should embrace global warming as good for the state and its economy. The bill would also set into law that global warming is natural and not man-made, and thus no regulations in the state should ever address global warming. In Montana, a city passed an ordinance barring housing and employment discrimination against gays and lesbians. A group of religious nuts (not even from the town) fought this tooth and nail. They lost, so what do they do? They find a religious nut in eastern Montana to sponsor a bill to nullify the city ordinance. Look at a couple of quotes from the religious nuts testifying at a hearing on this bill: There are those of us who would not rent to gay and lesbian people for religious reasons.” This law in Missoula means that a person with a penis can now go into the showers where the people with vaginas have gone. Not one of these bills has a darn thing to do with jobs or the economy. They haven’t done a darn thing on either front this legislative session.
