A bunch of spooky, creepy, tea party right-wing extremists all file en masse at the last minute to run for a bunch of seats …. on a community college board in Kalispell, which is a hotbed of creepy right-wing extremists. These people all have ties to anti-government web sites and groups. But, what are they hoping to accomplish on a community college board. They’re not going to teach Creationism at a community college. We have to keep an eye on the local school board every year because one year, sure enough, at the absolute last minute, three mystery candidates filed. It turned out they all belonged to the same fundamentalist church … and sure enough, they admitted they were running to bring God back into the classroom. They got defeated, but only because people were paying attention and asked them questions. This is how these extremists can operate. They very quietly try to take over local school boards. But, still a community college? Brian Schweitzer has issued the most outright vetoes in the recorded history of Montana … well recorded vetoes only go back to 1973, but it’s the most since then. He hasn’t yet broken the overall veto mark because there is something called Amendatory Vetoes, in which he rewrites parts of a bill, then sends it back to the Legislature for their vote. He has vetoed 37 bills so far (21 outright) passed by a Tea Party Legislature and will probably veto another dozen or so before he’s done. The Tea Party does not have the votes in the State Senate to override his vetoes. I love these quotes: The bills I vetoed were unconstitutional or in direct contrast with the will of the people, by initiative, for God’s sake. — Brian Schweitzer. According to veteran democratic legislator Carol Williams, the problem with these bills was: … the enormous number of new legislators, many of whom didn’t listen to the advice of the legislative staff about the constitutionality of their ideas and how the bills coordinated with current law. The result, she said, is not so much partisanship but legislation that is “technically bad,” as Republicans resisted efforts to fix the bills. In other words, it was pure ideological fanaticism over common sense. And in the words of Senate Minority Leader Jon Sesso to the Tea Party Republicans: “My feeling is you reap what you sow.” Many of these bills were downright silly. One would have limited sex education in the schools, one would have repealed medical marijuana (which was approved by state voters), one would have legalized cyanide leach mining (which was made illegal by state voters), and one would have eliminated same day voter registration, which was a direct attempt to stop college kids (i.e., young librul whippersnappers) from voting. I was researching “Portal 2” to make sure it was OK for the little one when I came across this series of videos made by someone named Ross Scott. It’s 31 episodes of “Freeman’s Mind.” I had never heard of it before, but I found out it’s a legendary Internet phenomenon. Ross Scott does this “Mystery Science Theatre 3000” style running commentary to “Half Life,” an old video game, and it’s really funny. It’s a lot of stream-of-consciousness rambling that often has absolutely nothing to do with the game. Gordon Freeman, the star of Half Life, is consistently ranked as one of the “Greatest video game heroes of all time.” However, instead of being heroic, Ross Scott portrays him as an utterly amoral drugged-out narcissist more concerned with avoiding being blamed than being a hero. This kind of peters out about halfway into the game, and I wondered why it ended, then found out it’s because the video game company made Ross Scott stop. I think that’s a shame. He was giving their old game great publicity. He’s gone on to do other things, but nothing as funny as “Freeman’s Mind.” Other people have made similar videos with the other Half Life games, but they aren’t very funny. They tend to be crude and juvenile. You can tell Scott worked with a script and is maybe a professional or semi-professional comedian. The others who have made these videos just seem to be slackers who think they’re really funny after eating too many marijuana brownies. This goes on for four or five hours and can get kind of redundant (He keeps making the same jokes over and over about how everyone but him is incompetent), but it’s broken up into 31 episodes between five and 10 minutes long. If you just want to waste 10 or 15 minutes of your day, a couple of these episodes are fun. More fun than beating up trolls at HP.

Remember, wolves are a top-tier predator, so even in olden times there probably never were a huge number of them. The problem is you take them off the ESA, stupid people go BERSERK and just start blowing away any and every wolf they lay their eyes on, claiming they were threatening livestock … or babies. This really happened in Wyoming when they came off the ESA list a few years ago. Wyoming went crazy and people there just started slaughtering wolves, then wolves got put promptly back onto the ESA list because people in Wyoming WON’T BEHAVE. So wolves are still on the ESA list in Wyoming.
