Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members

Hey imus! I’m done with HP too. Makes me sad, but the corporate overlording is just too overt now. The freedom to post whatever we wanted has been long gone, and now the FB link-up is a ploy to gather personal and friends info from us in order to sell sell sell some more!! Grrrr no more.

But happy so many HP refugees are here. Great to see you here now too 😉

Agree. HP certainly does not value many old timers. Apparently it does some, but not most. I checked my account this a.m. and have lost 423 fans since the FB log-in switch… It’s hard not to check my account but I’ll keep it to once a day, just to see how many actually cancelled their accounts.

Meanwhile, articles have 15 or 30 posts. BIG articles have several hundred. Gone are the days of 25,000 posts on an article.

It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds at HP. I hope they take a big financial/advertising hit with the lost of thousands of posters!

The iron fist of right wing control started to be exerted when aol bought H; then the “new” format; and now the FB link-up log-in. What was once a fun site to post on, and FREELY, has become a heavily moderated, troll-crazy, corporate tool of a place!

Ah well. ONWARDS for most of us. To sites like this where old HP friends can be found and hooked-up with once again. That makes me very happy.

Hey murph ~ I understand your desire to stay at HP and make a difference with your posts. Actually, I think those of us posting, some with very large fan bases, WERE making a difference and were pissing the Republican/McConnell/Koch/ALEC machine off with our posts of TRUTH and verifiable FACTS. I think those posts were important……. which is why HP had to shut us down.

How else to look at this outrageous privacy invasion? FB may as well be NSA. We know it sold personal information to other corporations and the government. You’re about as private on FB as you are in a glass house.

I’m very sad not to be able to post on HP anymore and I even have a “fake” FB page that I set up a few years ago that I could use.

I’ve seen 3 big exoduses in my time on HP:

(1.) When HP was bought by aol: So many brilliant brilliant posters fled and I didn’t think we’d recover, and we did, but only somewhat because after that, HEAVY moderation took over.

(2.) The “new” difficult to read and difficult to have discussions format. The “old” one was GREAT and worked very well for the posters but not for the HP-corporation.

(3.) This latest link-up with FB. I see it as an out and out attack on our privacy in horrendous ways. Who could post there now, especially if one is a Progressive, without fear of repercussions from the very “dirty tricking” Far Right? Endless trolls? And believe me, I had a number of trolls following me around HP that I chose to ignore in order to keep posting the TRUTH.

Again, I understand your wanting to stay and post on HP. I was there to post facts and most importantly to me, to learn from other posters, many of whom were BRILLIANT, (such as yourself) and to connect with friends, many of whom have come to this site and a few others, but many of whom I now no longer will be able to connect with and that makes me very sad.

I’m still deeply sad still about the loss of HP; it was, originally, a great format. News articles and responses by “real” people. But that honesty and simplicity has been utterly eradicated from HP. I see it now as an extension of the very thing I was blogging about: And extension of Wal-Mart, the Koch Bros., the 1%, etc. Arianna is a Republican after all, as anyone can tell by the slant of the articles on HP and the unceasing President Obama-bashing.

So – onto new platforms with the hope that American voters ARE in fact waking-up to the far right treachery and will continue to vote-out the GOPTea, with or without HP posters!

HP ended it for me with the FB log-in link up too. Whereas I miss all my friends there, there are so many here and other places. ONWARDS! A new chapter for all of us indeed. And no heavy moderating!

I did it a while back. Not my name. Not my info. Can’t remember. But it was easy peasy. I think that’s what people are doing who are still posting on HP, setting up fake FB pages!

I actually have a “fake” FB page that I NEVER use although I keep getting endless Emails from FB that I instantly delete; so I could’ve used that on HP but I resent the terrible invasion of Privacy their new policy demands. And I do not Tweet.

I believe HP got rid of posters because we WERE effective and made the GOPTea/Koch brothers/Rove/Norquist/ALEC upset with our FACTS and TRUTH. So naturally, like OWS, we were shut down and silenced.

Now HP, a once thriving place for posts and chats and most importantly, friendships for many of us, is a ghost town, which is deserves to be.

Onwards! Hopefully, American voters are (finally) waking up like we in California have been for ages! Fingers crossed.

So true, rambot. And the “new” format essentially got rid of chats altogether. From the time I’d been there posting since 2010: they were bought by aol and then heavy moderating began, then rude and crude trolling began, then the “new” format kicked in and chats were entirely done away with and now the Facebook linkup.

All of it designed, imo, to get rid of us posters. So they’ve achieved their goal. They can go ahead and post articles without any other POVs.

It is so heart warming to find so many fellow HP refugees. Thrilling. Because it was you all, your avis, your posts, that made HP so GREAT. It’s wonderful to know that we can carry on our “friendships” at this site. I have a lot to learn about what goes on at PlanetPOV but with you all here it’s going to be such fun.

HP did not appreciate the goldmine they had with all of us. Perhaps they will soon realize the mistake they made, or not. But for all of us, ONWARDS! Good night. Sweet dreams. And into the noble new! 😉

Hi AdLib. So happy to have found this site with other HP refugees! That was once a great site but no more. The Facebook link was the last straw for me. Planet POV looks like a wonderful place. So glad to have found it.

Would you mind answering a technical question: How can I put a photo in my avi?!? So sorry to be so pedestrian but I’m historically technologically challenged. I had hundreds of Fans on HP before I figured out how to do that. Yes, I know, pathetic 😉
