I’m just glad that what finally got me out – along with a poster saying something about Earth is a what? point of view – is turning out to have been a close harbinger of some real borderline-mainstream negative attention. We may know what’s up, but they still have credibility as the mass-market liberal site, which is what concerns me.
This stuff, sadly, never gets old or irrelevant.
Otherwise, that is the way the system works, and there are doubtlessly a million other things deserving of an exception ; and yes, the ones that do get exceptions are ones like Bush v. Gore. If I disagree, it is about being agitated on that point, which doesn’t appeal to me as productive ( which, in turn, is only a matter of temperament, not substance ) ; and if I had a choice of one exception to make, it would be to vacate District of Columbia v. Heller as a radically treasonous license for a fascist overthrow of the government that is making the tedious crawl of Prop. 8 to oblivion possible.
One of the main issues is the legal question of whether the Prop. 8 backers have standing. The 9th Circuit order specifically states :

From digging into the archives today I see that many on this site were onto Queen Bee quite awhile ago. For me, it was difficult to contextualise what I was seeing there – it could just pass for some sort of representation of mainstream opinion ( and was all the more distressing for that ), and the presence of Ken Blackwell and Schmuley Boteach was easy to explain away as some sort of misguided pretense of editorial balance. The alarm went off about 6 weeks ago, when they gave a front page spot to, yes, James O’Keefe to spout his lying filth. I am glad to see that this is indeed turning out ( hopefully ) to be a tipping point, with the Olbermann Worst Person last week and other increasing negative coverage.
My own voting record is spotty, but I don’t consider it at all unworthwhile that I voted Green Party in the California recall, or for Mike Gravel in the 2008 primary; and while I made a late decision to support a major party candidate in November 2008, if I hadn’t I would have gone and voted for McKinney or Nader just the same.
And if only I’d voted in the 2004 Democratic primary – for the Reverend Al Sharpton! Now that would be a memory to cherish. 🙂
Perhaps being from a creative background I’m more accustomed than others might be to being in a small minority of interest or opinion ( though that can’t be so unusual around here ) ; and a
“ winning is everything ” view of elections in particular is not uncommon. But elections are about voting for whatever one’s choice is, and there are more than two ( usually a few more ).
