One thing the Right always provides is a scapegoat for whatever ails you. Most of the people I work with nod their heads in unison with the rightwing radio on AM. No matter what the problems are in the country, there’s always a target provided for the unfocused anger and fear that people feel. Sometimes I hear progressives say that what this country needs is to collapse completely as the result of Republican policy, just to “teach people a lesson” never to trust Republicans again. I think this is wrong. And the war in Iraq was indeed a war of choice. It was begun under false pretenses, using falsified evidence.
