Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

It’s like having an alter-ego Chase – you can be a really naughty girl – go for it!

Do as I say – not as I do!

But I don’t feel so good about what little I have.

Sabreen- I’m a WASP whose family was here before the revolution, however we were not southerners so I pray we had no part in slavery. I know our country has done evil things and my problem with that now, is how ignorant people are about our history.

Every time Fox played Rev. Wright saying “God damn America” out of context I couldn’t believe how riled up people were. At the time I was working with a group of women that never heard of the Tuskegee experiments and I tried give them a little background. I recently read a great book on Henrietta Lacks too. I was a member of UC of C which is Rev. Wright’s domination but in another town so I guess I felt somewhat defensive.

Average voters and Americans don’t know the history of what our government has done to minorities in this country and if they were educated I hope to god they would understand there are 2 different cultural experiences growing up in America. Somehow we have to bridge this gap and education seems to be the best answer – but if Texas is writing our school books – what chance do we have?

PW – you do have a gift for the gab – do they ever respond?

» Posted By Artist50 On February 28, 2011 @ 11:21 am

Absolutely agree Cher. This man demeans the court, he is an embarrassment. I don’t understand how it’s legal for his wife to be openly political and for him to join, nor do I understand how he gets away with not talking for five years. It appears to me he isn’t doing his job. He sits on that court in defiance. That’s how he makes his “fuck you” statement everyday IMO.

I’d just like to say how much I’ve enjoyed this site since someone clued me in from HP. My blood pressure seemed to rise over there – I was frustrated with the trolls, with the unsourced ignorant comments, the level of moderation, some of the crap they called news (Kim’s nude again) and AH. I am amazed at the talent and resourcefulness of you guys!

I usually read three books a week but I don’t think I’ve finished one since I found this place – I’ve been reading new articles and old articles and then I get lost in a little research of my own. My eyes are “shot” because I’m almost always on my phone – which is why I haven’t figured out how to really use the site very well. (It’s not easy to cut and paste, etc.)

I just wanted to say thanks for making me feel welcome and tell you how impressed I am by everyone’s dedication and knowledge. Good job!

Well PW you are the only living student that actually liked statistics – that’s an amazing stat!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 27, 2011 @ 7:01 pm

Ok, I’ll bite – I haven’t the faintest idea. I’ve never had a statistics class but I did take a logic class which was one of the best classes I ever had. It really taught me how to think – but I think I forgot…

» Posted By Artist50 On February 27, 2011 @ 6:56 pm

Maggie looks too cute – look at that belly – it’s just begging to be rubbed!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 27, 2011 @ 5:44 pm

I hope I didn’t offend you 2nd Class – I certainly didn’t mean to. What one wants to do in their private life is their business, I only find the hypocrisy of the GOP stunning. No one bothers Barney Frank because he doesn’t pretend to be someone he is not or to presume to tell others how to conduct themselves in their personal lives. IMHO everyone should be true to themselves and what pain a trans-gender must live in to want to change so much of who they are in such drastic and painful surgery. How could one not empathize with them?

Kids need heros – heck we all need heros!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 26, 2011 @ 9:04 pm

I’m not sure I’m going to date them anymore either. I think you’re very wise and I’ve been a bit slow!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 26, 2011 @ 6:25 pm

So maybe we need more women in Congress?

» Posted By Artist50 On February 26, 2011 @ 6:22 pm

We all knew there had to be more to it to quit without a fight. What scares me is how stupid the guy was – how did he think he wouldn’t be caught? And these are the people making critical decisions for our nation. Yikes!

I tried to buy a shovel in Indiana today with the same luck. The big box stores were all putting their summer furniture out and I’m sure we’ll be getting more of the white stuff. I’m ready to see a crocus!

Read that – she’s angry and wants her money back. And we wonder about the dumbing down of America…

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:59 pm

I can figure out if you are male or female – I thought you were a guy until that remark!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:51 pm

But he’s gay- remember? They all excepted him – I think if you cry enough they overlook it like Jimmy Swaggart. He was a big crier.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:46 pm

I think since you are god you should keep Muammar at your house because maybe you can control him – he is a character – he was dressed like Robin Hood the other day. He’s got an eye for fashion.

I wish I knew how to do stuff here – I’ll learn but I’m not the greatest with computers but did anyone see the GOP list of cuts do far? I wish I could figure out how to download them – that may be my weekend project. The priorities are pretty sad.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:42 pm

Fantastic news!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:34 pm

That made me cry. I miss my dad too.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 7:29 pm

Well said PW – I’m so impressed with the writers here. I know how you feel Sally, I graduated from college but I was a painting major and it’s been forty years! Art will always be part of my life but it’s not how I’ve made my living. Life really doesn’t usually end up being what we planned, does it?

My parents generation had so many bright people that never had a chance at college like my father – he was already 28 when the war ended – he didn’t have time for a four year school, but he was a successful businessman. I wish those boom times were here again!

I feel like a freeloader here because everyone is always writing their own articles, but everyones opinions are valid. At least I’m an avid reader – I just don’t express my self well. I need your moral support Sally.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 2:13 pm

Me too – on both counts!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 25, 2011 @ 1:58 pm

She definitely looks like the boss PW!

» Posted By Artist50 On February 24, 2011 @ 6:38 pm

I agree they can’t get elected but they are a presence and the GOP plays to them. I think many uninformed people really buy into to their spiel and they are gaining a foothold. But I live in Indiana which is conservative by nature. When I get together with old school friends – I have a group of 10-15 from high school that stay in touch after 40 years- we don’t talk politics because they all know it pushes my buttons and I’m amazed at how conservative they are.

After our last reunion one of my classmates started sending emails with updates about members health – there were about 200 names on the list – and during the healthcare debate 2 guys sent an email about the death panels and encouraged people to vote Republican. I was furious and wrote a rebuttal and said if this was going to be a political site to take my name off – so they did! That’s Indiana!

Did you see where Beck apologized for being wrong? I’m sure Ailes or Murdoch made him.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 24, 2011 @ 6:16 pm

I kind of agree with Dey – when I hear Huckabee and Palin talk I get chills. They aren’t here to represent America – they have another higher calling that they will use America to further. Huckabee wants all the Palestinians out of the West Bank now and a huge percentage are Christians but evidently not the right kind! What does he intend to do with them and how does he want to get them out?

» Posted By Artist50 On February 24, 2011 @ 6:06 pm

HH – exactly what I’m saying.

» Posted By Artist50 On February 24, 2011 @ 5:59 pm

It may be a leap but it’s the religious right that scares me because they believe they are doing gods work and I consider myself religious. But the fanatics that argue no abortion for any reason and want to change the meaning of rape are scary because what are their hidden agendas? Hitler didn’t start out saying he was going to kill 6 million Jews or they would have protested that’s what’s so insidious about power.
