Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

So Khirad I don’t know you well – are you a Scottish Muslim? Unusual combo!

No, they’re in the restroom working on their “stance”.

How old are the pages? The link says the Repugs were concerned about them hearing the word – like they’ve never heard Carlin’s infamous seven!

Greed is right – when is enough enough for these guy and what pleasure does it give them to politically change the system so the “haves” have more and the “have nots” have less? Henry Ford certainly didn’t model his business this way. I guess we only trickle up now! (My vote is health care.)

This is my state and it is so personal to me. First I am old enough to remember and know women who did have back street abortions. There will always be desperate women.

Secondly, my daughter-in-law found out five years ago after desperately wanting a baby that at 24 wks her baby had a diaphragmatic hernia with possible chromosome damage and heart problems. Devastating. They were lucky to find out that the baby only had the hernia problem, otherwise she (under this new law) would have had to carry for 8 more wks a baby they knew that would die immediately. Is this not beyond cruel?

Many woman even with the lesser problem choose abortion because the baby’s chances hovered at 50 / 50, but Chris is Catholic and was sure she would beat the odds. Born at 9 lb my grandson went through several surgeries and was on ECMO (heart – lung machine) for several weeks but didn’t survive. During her pregnancy her OBGYN amazingly had another mother with the same defect and the two stayed in touch. That little girl is doing well today. My prayer is that my grandson’s experimental surgery may save the next CDH baby.

Those choices were theirs to make – not some old white man in congress.

Sabreen – I think you hit the nail on the head – your observations are great. A schools atmosphere is all about the administrator and too many times they promote a teacher to that position instead of bringing someone from the outside in. The problem with that is that he’s a everyones friend. The principal has to tough enough to take not being popular.

I had a wonderful principal when I taught that nurtured me and helped me become a better teacher. He also put his job on the line by firing a teacher for incompetence before he got tenure while his wife taught at the same school and was a great tenured teacher. Talk about tense! But he did the job he was paid to do and many of them don’t.

I rescued an 8 yr old 112 lb Golden several years ago – she was arthritic ( like me ) and she would not quit playing, nor could she navigate the steps. She had been a young mans dog but he married, had kids and she would play until she could not walk every day. So I took her in along with her own bowls and bedding. Two yrs later she quit eating and lost 20 lbs. The vet could find nothing wrong, I didn’t know what to do – she was starving herself. One day I fed her in a different bowl and she ate. I threw the SS bowl that she came with out and she never had a problem again. I never figured out why that bowl bothered her.

Look at those eyes!

A&R. Is this your pet? What a cuddly creature to watch a movie with a – Yikes!

They’ve gone too far because they are taking their jobs and don’t you think eventually the people will revolt?

» Posted By Artist50 On March 30, 2011 @ 6:33 pm

I think I’ll go write them a check.

As a former middle school teacher I have several comments. First, it really bothers me that there are bad teachers out there and it’s the administrations fault that they aren’t weeded out before they are tenured. No one seems to be putting any responsibility for our problems on the people who make all the decisions and that makes me angry. Every bad teacher was given a seal of approval from their department heads and principals.

Not all kids are rote learners (I taught Art) and testing and how you test only shows one kind of learning IMO. Too much emphasis is placed on testing and if that’s the way we’re going to base pay for staff there is going to be cheating. New article out about Michelle Rhee indicates erasures on DC test scores that show that her performance improvements may have been from cheating. We are taking away any creative teaching and learning and teaching for tests, which are graded locally. It’s not working.

My third point is political and I don’t know how the GOP doesn’t see that if we don’t help young people become educated responsible adults now we’re going to pay for it later. Duh! I guess they would rather build more prisons than support Head Start and WIC. In my city, Indianapolis the inner city school spend about $5500 per students while the suburban schools spend $13,000. Do we really think they get the same education and the GOP wants to have vouchers?

Way too emotional…

» Posted By Artist50 On March 29, 2011 @ 5:32 pm

Adonai – Your arrogance is just outstanding and we appreciate it – but it does take away from some of the others!!!!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 29, 2011 @ 5:28 pm

“The Donald” may end up being more fun than Sarah! I think he’s going to start filming his quasi-campaign any day now for a reality show.

» Posted By Artist50 On March 29, 2011 @ 4:58 pm

This is classic GOP hypocrisy that will certainly come back to haunt him in his next election. I just don’t understand the lack of empathy from these guys – I sincerely don’t think they “get” it – astounding!

Thanks Bito!

And that’s what Nixon did and why so many people thought Reagan was a good POTUS, don’t you think? He gave people hope again in their government – unfortunately many of his policies were destructive but it took many years to see how bad they were. I’m amazed at how many people still worship him, but I think it was his “image” they needed at that time.

Kes- I couldn’t respond directly to you – of course I know of Marian University – but it was always a college when I was young. It’s not too far from here. It’s a Catholic school with that beautiful mansion and the velodrome. That’s why your father likes Butler, because you have an Indy connection. I actually went to Butler also, so it was strange coming back almost 40 yrs later!!!

I missed the speech and I have concerns about getting involved in a third hot spot but we are there, and I can’t help questioning Kucinch’s motives with an election coming up. He is very unappealing and abrasive to me, in fact his “tooth” lawsuit was indicative of his pettiness.

» Posted By Artist50 On March 28, 2011 @ 7:33 pm

I remember seeing Midnight Cowboy and being shocked at the violence – I was only nineteen and it was the most depressing movie I’d ever seen – very powerful.

» Posted By Artist50 On March 28, 2011 @ 7:20 pm

Kes – Thank you – we play on Saturday against VCU – another Cinderella team that I’ve been rooting for – there will be no losers – both teams play with all their hearts! The campus is quiet and I’m amazed at how many kids are going to Houston, everyone else will watch from historic Hinkle field house!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 28, 2011 @ 7:14 pm

Adonai – I worked pretty hard cheering for Kentucky today (something I thought I’d never do) – I’d love to see a Butler – Kentucky final game. It would take me back to the good IU times! Damn that VCU team is playing well and BDM UCONN always plays well – so next weekend should be fun!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 27, 2011 @ 8:21 pm

Love the Dawgs!!!! I rooted for Kentucky last night Adonai and being from Indiana I hardly ever cheer for Kentucky!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 5:30 pm

Bito – I was saying that “tongue in cheek”. I don’t know how long you’ve been gone but not much has changed and you know we live for March Madness – though my sons will never forgive the state for separating the state basketball tourney into classes. It’s never been the same. I was raised in New Castle which had the largest high school field house in the US – and our small town filled it’s 8K seats. Now you just can’t explain that to someone that isn’t a fellow Hoosier!!!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 4:54 pm

I don’t know KT – what is so disturbing to me is how public he is with his thoughts. Most evil people keep those thoughts to themselves – these people seem to be proud of their idea of genocide.

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 4:45 pm

Love this!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 4:32 pm

They do have a team – did you know that? They were in the NCAA tourney a few years ago. I think you’re making fun of Indiana Bito! Shame on you – I live at Butler, you know.

The Bulldogs just beat Florida in OT – I think they have a NCAA guardian angel. The kids are in the streets and I think there may be some hard partying going here tonight! Last year they called off Monday classes when we got in the Final Four – after all this is where they filmed “Hoosiers”!!!

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 4:24 pm

Enough of my outrage – I have to go watch Butler beat Florida. (I hope!)

» Posted By Artist50 On March 26, 2011 @ 1:17 pm

Thanks – I swear these people are beginning to be the old Klansmen and the GOP welcomed them with opened arms. When has a politician been able to say you should shoot people down from a helicopter like swine and not shocked people in his own party? The Republicans have gone too far and it may be their undoing.
