Kalima- it’s so good hear that you are safe, the photos are all so devastating. I saw a small boy being tested for radiation that looked to be my little two year old grandsons size and it broke my heart. Somehow one doesn’t think such tragedy can strike them but look at the people whose lives have been dramatically changed for years to come. My heart goes out to you and your adopted country. Bless you.

KT – I would have no problem with you sending “package” photos to a friend. I’m not a prude! You aren’t married and you aren’t representing your country. I would also assume from what I know of you that you’re smart enough that if you were going to send the photos you might use another account. I doubt you would want your daughter to see the photos. I think most of us want our sex lives private. That’s what I question about Weiner’s actions and judgement – it just doesn’t make sense to me. Also, as a woman, if I was in my first year of marriage and pregnant I believe most women would consider this emotionally cheating which for them can be just as damaging as physically cheating. There is a male / female thing about sex that is just an eternal truth that I don’t think we can change in 45 yrs of womens liberation.

CL – I’m out of reply buttons below. I guess we’re just going to have to agree to disagree. I also felt like Clinton should have resigned at the time rather embarrass his wife and daughter, but I guess I was in the minority then also. I’m not sure we know yet whether an laws have been broken. We do know there was contact with a seventeen year old and I find it hard to believe that over six years that age barrier was never crossed. Again, my problem is that I don’t want my party compared to the GOP, I want to be morally superior. That’s why I believe in the ideals of the Democratic Party and yes, I’m still an idealist.

I do think it’s a little strange for a man his age that has only been married 11 months to be so tied up in this activity. He admits he’s been doing it for several years. I personally think he does have a compulsion or he wouldn’t have used his own name which is just incredibly stupid and we know that he very bright. I’m sure there are a percentage of men that are into this but I would say the risky behavior, his age and the fact that he’s a newlywed with a pregnant wife makes it a little more strange. That’s why it appears to me it’s something he can’t control. I think he needs to resign, do the rehab thing and get the attention off of him and he may have a future. Chances are they’re going to do away with his district anyway. I have always adored him, he’s hysterical, but IMO he could be a distraction in the next year and he’s not a role model.

I don’t know much about how he grew up but the way I taught my sons about responsibility was that actions have consequences and by his age he should know that. My youngest son wrecked his best friends car a week after high school graduation and I remember him walking in the next day with a hard hat and steel toed boots because he had found this awful job in a factory to pay his friend the $2600 he owed him. To me these are the lessons that make us adults and I feel like our children need to see some kind of consequence when a man who holds one of the highest offices in the land betrays the public trust, otherwise, why shouldn’t they? I know I’m kind of a hard ass on this, but it comes from parenting and teaching.

I have to disagree. I think he should resign because he’s a distraction to the party and will be in the election year to follow and I also find the “boys will be boys” excuse for his behavior sexist. If a leading female political (Hillary) had sent crotch shots under her name on the Internet her job would not have survived the day.

I really don’t care what morally corrupt people are in the GOP – it’s like someone else’s children to me – I care about the morality and fitness of my leaders and Weiner has shown that at age 47 he is not capable of making mature adult decisions or being a role model for the nation’s youth. We get the government we elect – we have to start sometime to be the party that walks the walk.

Weiner is a very bright man. Why did he use his own name? It makes me wonder whether the risk taking or the sex was the greater thrill, but I do think he has a compulsion and I hope he can get help – I just think he’s hurting the party and the election next year by sticking around. There are consequences to our actions.

This is so tragic and yet so hopeful. With her injury I can’t believe she will ever be working in Congress again, it would truly be a miracle. It is already beyond comprehension that she is walking and communicating. It shocks and saddens me that evil strikes such a good person as Gabby, and I hope we never live in a nation that we are not appalled at such senseless violence to a human that was only trying to make the world a better place.

Caru – well if they have flood insurance but they won’t pay because the government is causing it then I agree with you that the government should pay. That is certainly beyond their control.

My first thought is that I hope we aren’t rebuilding the expensive California homes that continue to be built over and over after they burn. Fair is fair. I don’t know why people build in places where they can’t buy insurance for their homes – it doesn’t make much sense to me and I would not think they could get a mortgage. However, I lived in Quincy, IL in 1973 during the biggest flood of the century and it was frightening and very sad. We lived on the “high” side of the river but we watched it go from a half mile to six miles wide and it took months to recede. It’s such a long term disaster for many people. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the power of water, but I do question whether we should be building on these flood planes. If we look at the patterns, this is going to happen every 40-60 years, but my heart goes out to these people.

Abby – I haven’t been around much the last couple of weeks and I didn’t know you were working for her. How exciting – it sounds like she really has a chance in a very Republican district. Let’s hope this race is paving the way for 2012. I was impressed with her on CM myself. Your “little old lady” goes to show you that not everybody thinks alike – thank god! So is this very red district where you live?

I love that you tell your kids a different day that you’re coming home! My boys are in their 30’s now but I remember coming home once when they were in college and everything was slightly out of place. I noticed coffee grounds on the hardwoods in the LR and ask why? They admitted it was “chew” – they had been very careful about taking all my “stuff” and removing it before the party and then didn’t quite remember where everything belonged – at least they were honest! Welcome back Cher!

Great observation KT. When the facts are in front of you, how do you justify the denial except through racism? It doesn’t even make sense to me. They let him get away with incredible statements on MSNBC and his friends just laugh it off. It really disturbs me.
