Thanks for the head’s up, Nellie. Will get to work on that!

If it’s the site I’m thinking of, it’s a site set up by a nasty troll who is obsessed with HuffPo and attacking the bloggers there.

Thanks Boomer, just found 3 comments of yours being held. I’m back on the case!

Khirad, that sucks! Before it crashed, it sounds like Firefox stopped communicating with the site so everything you were typing wasn’t able to be saved along the way.

I prefer Firefox as a browser but when it does these self-updating things, it can mess itself up.

It’s not going to be much solace but when I’ve lost what I’ve written due to my computer crashing, I have found that I typically will write a pretty similar replacement section, your mind does seem to follow the same path when you write.

Still, it’s all that time and energy lost and beeing on the brink of completion. And the bookmarks gone, that hugely sucks. Perhaps you can re-find the bookmarks by reviewing History in Firefox?

So sorry about that, I’ve been there and I have literally strangled my computer…but it didn’t seem bothered.

It does not link back to your computer, it is solely a link to PlanetPOV.

I checked the properties in the file, which would be the only other personalized part, it does say the Author is “Daddy”.

Not exactly personally identifying…that may narrow it down to 100 million possibilities!

Yes, that’s an annoying WordPress quirk. Just reposted it in OT in your “Live From Washington” comment.

That is one cool image!

» Posted By AdLib On February 20, 2010 @ 12:03 pm

No worries!

» Posted By AdLib On February 20, 2010 @ 11:37 am

First, whenever anything squirrely keeps happening like that the first thing I do is clear my cache and restart my browser. If that doesn’t solve it, I restart my computer.

The error you’re describing is likely cache related. It happens when the “Reply” or “Submit Comment” button is clicked more than once before a comment APPEARS to be posted…but already is.

So far, I’ve found it to always be accurate, the comment has indeed been posted already.

What happens if there is a cache problem is that the comment is posted but your screen doesn’t refresh so it looks to you as if the comment hasn’t been posted so you’ll click the button again which will then return the duplicate post.

Is that properly confusing? 😉

bito, that is a different function which sends you emails every time someone comments on the post for which you’ve checked that and commented.

Escrib wanted to stop the emails that come to notify members when new articles are posted.

We had changed it to Twice Daily for a while but the time delay between a post going up and the notification going out could be up to 12 hours so we’ve gone back to per-post notifications.

» Posted By AdLib On February 20, 2010 @ 11:14 am

escrib – sorry about the bad link, I’ve removed it and I’ve unsubscribed you as requested.

FYI, if you want to change these settings in the future, you can turn it on for notifications on all categories or selected ones, such as just Take Action!, by following these instructions which appear at the bottom of every email notification you receive:

You received this e-mail because you asked to be notified when new updates are posted. To change your email notification settings, go to your Dashboard then
User then Subscriptions.

Cher, all the links are fixed.

Just remember, when the pop up box appears for inserting links, it already has “http://” in it so if you’re pasting a full link, make sure to delete that first.

The links in your article that weren’t working had an extra “http://” at the beginning.

All is well now!

» Posted By AdLib On February 12, 2010 @ 1:57 pm

Khirad, fixed! The only issue was that instead of selecting “preview” in the pulldown box, you selected “image”. Otherwise, you did everything else right.

Boomer, hope Kalima answered your question. BTW, the top listing under revisions will always be the most recent revision.

If there was a problem, you may need to go down one or two revisions to see if the system somehow overwrote your new version with an old version. This can happen if you have more than one edit window open on the same post.

» Posted By AdLib On February 5, 2010 @ 10:46 am

Cher, this can happen if there’s an issue with your cache. To resolve this, clear your cache then click on the title of an article so it reloads a fresh version.

K-orrect! And thanks, Nellie!

» Posted By AdLib On February 2, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

Thanks for trying, bito! Here are the instructions from our FAQ, let me know if you have any questions on them:

b. INSERTING AN IMAGE IN YOUR POST

» Posted By AdLib On January 27, 2010 @ 2:52 pm

Done. Next time, highlight it, click the Link button (the icon that looks like a chain link). In the pop up box, paste the URL then select “Open in New Window” and click “Insert”.

» Posted By AdLib On January 27, 2010 @ 2:51 pm

You’re covered!

» Posted By AdLib On January 27, 2010 @ 2:22 pm

bito, was trying to resolve a software bug and accidentally knocked the widget out. It’s back now!

» Posted By AdLib On January 27, 2010 @ 8:31 am

Accounts can be closed by request. I’ve just emailed you, please email me back to confirm if you would like to close your account. Thanks!

» Posted By AdLib On January 18, 2010 @ 9:27 am

Email them to me and I’ll insert the for you. FYI: The FAQ explains how to add links in posts, it’s different from in comments like this.

In a post, you type the word or paste the URL you want use for the link then select the word or URL, click the button that has an image of a chain link.

An entry box pops up, paste in the link in the top box, select “Open in a new window” in the pull down bvelow it then click the “Insert” button.

Done!

Did a little research, apparently it is how WordPress is programmed, it strips HTML from whatever is placed in the Bio section.

To add your website though, there is a section for your URL in your profile, once you fill that in your name will appear in red in all of your comments to let people know they can click on it to go to your site.

We’ve just started setting one up, as Reference Links under Archive but it doesn’t have many links yet. Would you be interested in putting together a series of links as you describe that we can post there?

If you post them here I can copy and paste them into the Reference Page.

Otherwise, I’d toss out to anyone reading this to post links here they would like to have in our Reference Links, would really appreciate the assist on this, I am buried!

» Posted By AdLib On January 7, 2010 @ 9:28 pm

You are tres modest, if you’re saying that was the hardest thing you’ve been dealing with lately! 😉

» Posted By AdLib On January 6, 2010 @ 3:05 am

The Profile function is new here, I’ll have to explore it a bit more to see what we can do. Seems like the formatting is preset, if that’s the case, it could be changed.

I’ll add it on my somewhat lengthy to-do list.

» Posted By AdLib On January 6, 2010 @ 3:04 am

Yes, you just need to delete the image you don’t want.

Make sure you’re in the “Visual” (as opposed to “HTML”) tab on your post in your Dashboard, click on the image you want to delete then either click on the red circle icon that pops up on the image or hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

» Posted By AdLib On January 5, 2010 @ 7:32 am

That post was deleted and in the Trash folder, the Member Directory apparently displays posts in the Draft and Trash folders, I’ll look into that.

I’ve fully deleted the post now so it won’t appear again in your profile.

Thanks all for collaborating on figuring out this issue on seeing profiles.

To recap what was discovered, if you can’t see your own or another member’s profile, you will need to log out then log back in then all should be cool.

This issue is only occurring because we are all adding our profile info now, it should not arise again after this period but please let me know if this or any other issues arise with the Member Directory.

Thanks!

Emerald, great suggestions, these changes are already at the top of our To Do list. May take a little while but they’re on the way!
