Hey Truth!

Thanks for reminding me about the SWIFT code, will get on it, my thoughtful friend!

Second, I’m a couple days ahead of you but hadn’t mentioned this publicly yet, my bad.

There is now a category for The Daily Planet where you can now browse through all or any of the issues. Here’s how:

In the category menu above (which begins with Arts & Entertainment), hover your cursor over the PlanetPOV category and you’ll see The Daily Planet in the dropdown box. Click on it and you’ll be presented with a list of all Daily Planet editions.

Lastly, due to your excellent suggestion, you will now find an Art Corner category under the Speakers Corner category. All members posting original artwork are invited to add this category when creating a new article so that our members’ original artwork will be in one easy-to-access place.

I have also added a Writers Corner category there for members to post original stories, poems, etc. These join the existing Business Corner and Food Corner (for recipes, restaurant talk and cooking and baking tips) under Speakers Corner.

As for past articles with original artwork, that will take me a little time to add to the Art Corner category but it will be on my to-do list and appear soon.

Not at this time, two very separate software components and functions.

The question for folks here is if we like the way it works as is, can’t make many modifications to it.

PW – That method gets my vote! Best way to have all of The Planet emails in one handy place and if you’re getting a lot, keeping them from crowding up your main Inbox.

Just don’t forget to check for new messages, sometimes it’s ol’ Adlib!

One thing I will do is take a poll after our trial run to see how folks feel about it.

As to putting the onus on members to uncheck the box, I can do that but there will be a number who overlook doing so and one thing a legit website never wants to be accused of is spamming its members, which I’m concerned some may feel we’re doing when they suddenly see a stream of emails coming from us after they make a comment.

I wish it had an option for folks to turn it on or off all the time for themselves but it doesn’t.

The problem with that is, changing one’s email address to one they didn’t use would prevent the admin here from ever being able to contact them in the future,. We do need to be able to email members.

Also, they wouldn’t be able to receive emails for any other functions they would want to, such as emails when new posts are published.

I think members could get used to clicking the checkbox each time they want to get email notifications on replies to their comments.

Here’s the thing, it can be set to “on” for all comments but I’d be concerned that some members who would rather not receive emails would feel spammed and see it as a hassle to keep asking me to unsubscribe them. As it is now, there isn’t a way to have it automatically on for some members and not for others.

Meanwhile, I have found one little software conflict, had to make a change which makes the comment link not work properly so I’m going to replace it temporarily with a link to the Home Page while I try to fix it.

Nothing’s ever that easy!

It’s set up right now to show the name of the post, your own comment and the reply comment. Very easy to change it so it’s just the post and the reply…or leave it as is.

First question/option, should the notification email have the text of your comment and the text of the reply or just the reply?

The reason I ask is that after having received a few now, I recognize that one has to repeatedly scroll past one’s own comment (when they’re lengthy, a bit of scrolling will be required) to view the new reply.

On the other hand, if you have a number of comments under the same post, it might be more desirable.

Personally, I think I’d like to just know which post it was on, read the reply then click the link to take me to my comment. However, seeking honest input on this to know what works best for most members.

WTS, I didn’t delete it but moved it into pending. I don’t understand what the problem is, other members are posting articles without issues. Could you email me the content of the post and I’ll paste it in?

Also, could you remind me what kind of system, OS and browser you’re using?

So sorry about this WTS, want to get this figured out and solved ASAP!

Heh! Nice to hear that!

I like it, getting emails on replies to my comment above is already proving very helpful.

I will probably use it strategically, on certain comments though, it could prove to be a bit overwhelming.

Unfortunately, the software doesn’t have an unsubscribe function so I will have to do it manually for members who want to stop the notifications. No problem during this trial period but as an ongoing proposition, it could be a bit demanding for me to manage.

I’m hoping that once people select notification for a comment, they’ll want to keep it in most cases.

TRY OUT A NEW PLANETPOV FEATURE!

We are testing a new feature at the site, please let us know what you think about it, if you want to use it or not and if so, do you like how it works.

We can’t customize the functionality at this time so please let us know if you do or don’t like it as is.

THE NEW FEATURE: EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS OF REPLIES TO YOUR COMMENTS.

At the bottom of the Leave Your Comment box is now a checkbox labeled, “Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail”.

If you check this box before submitting your comment, you will receive an email every time someone replies to that particular comment of yours, with a link you can click to take you right to it.

You could use it on all your comments, just certain comments or if it’s too spammy for you, you don’t have to use it at all.

Please reply to this comment to post your reviews of this new feature so we can decide whether to keep it or not.

Whoops! You’re right, I forgot about that. In any case, it’s actually best to add updates as comments because what happens is that once someone’s read a post, they’re less likely to re-read the post and spot updates.

Whoops, clicked the thumbs down on your comment by mistake, ignore it!

You can just go into Posts then move your cursor over the post and select Edit. Just upload and insert the new images as you did before then click the Update button.

Some kind of glitch, sorry about that. As Kalima says, there is an option in WordPress to make posts Private but we don’t do that here. For some reason, the Private tag was mistakenly being applied to your post then things went back to normal.

May I suggest that whoever would like to, begin posting a Sunday Brunch Blog on Sundays with a smattering of the types of features you mention and as I mentioned about the Good News post, if it is sustained, it will become a de facto feature.

Again, members are welcome to introduce new features as long as they’re not covering the same ground as an existing feature. The key to becoming established is to consistently update and support them.

2CCP, the way we work at The Planet is that if a member has an idea for a regular feature, as Cher recently has with her brilliant Daily Planet, we ask them to run it by me and in most cases I’ll say, “Do it!” Then, if it sustains for a while, we could establish a link to it on the Home Page.

As for the Good News idea, I think it sounds great. Do it! Create a post called Good News and comments can be posted to it that present Good News. If the membership continues to add to it as an ongoing feature, we could set up a permanent link to it.

It all depends on the dimensions of the image you are using. If the dimensions are square, it may appear distorted since the slider is rectangular.

Rectangular is the best image shape to retain proportion in the slider.

We have updated the software which must have changed some options. When in your Add New Post screen in your Dashboard, click the “Screen Options” link in the top right corner of the screen and click a check in “Excerpt”.

It will appear there from now on.

If you’re on a PC, you can do as I do and right click the Recent Comment to Open Link In New Tab. On iPhone or iPad, holding down on a link allows the same thing.
