WE have public schools and private schools…nothing in between, that I know of. » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 19, 2011 @ 12:24 am You are probably right…but it is so annoying sometimes! Really, that IS interesting! » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 19, 2011 @ 12:15 am I figured as much! It was my fault I wasn’t entirely clear as I should have been. SEE I do have a HUGE problem with a secretary who can’t spell, can’t write a letter to save her life and works for the STATE in a completely unessential role…making 86K per year. I do have a real problem with that and then people complain and bitch about TEACHERS pay…when they actually do something important and need REAL credentials. Most secretaries don’t need much in the way of special training, and there are MANY MANY people who can do that job…very well. That is NOT a specialized field…on the contrary…especially today. FOR goodness sake in the private sector most secretarial jobs have gone the way of the edsel except for high level executives. THERE is no reason for the job to even exist anymore. REALLY good administrative assistants are not really secretaries anymore. They are are managerial assistants. » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 19, 2011 @ 12:04 am OH and BOTH the Teacher and the woman who works for the state belong to public employee unions. The teacher belongs to the Teachers Union (Buffalo Teachers Federation) and the secretary belongs to the CSEA… THERE are often DIFFERENT unions representing different state workers. » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 18, 2011 @ 11:44 pm I think you may have misread my comment….the one who made the LEAST was the one who worked for the private company. EVEN though they are good employer and have VERY fair wages. They treat their employees well…but they don’t pay a secretary MORE than the position requires. The one who made the MOST is an administrative assistant (secretary) who works for the STATE of NEW york, and does not need any special training or education, unlike the teacher. THAT is the problem! » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 18, 2011 @ 11:32 pm I would also like to add, I have some mixed feelings about this subject. I am a HUGE union supporter and truly believe in the power of collective bargaining. I AM a fan of the concept for most workers, both in the public and private sector. I truly support,in the public sector the ability for teachers, police officers and fire fighters use of collective bargaining. However, there are somethings I do have a gripe with in how SOME public sector unions have been able to bargain for pay and benefits for public sector workers that are JUST not appropriate. I’ll cite a couple of examples from where I live in New York State. I know of a few public sector workers who are in positions that don’t require special education beyond a 2 year associates degree or even high school who’s salaries are just NOT in line at all with the private sector. I mean THEY are way out there. For example, I know of a administrative assistant for the STATE OF NEW YORK with a 2 year business school degree…who is making 86K with unheard of benefits. ( I have truly seen this person’s W2 and tax information…so it is accurate and not hearsay)….I have a friend who has the same credentials who works at an excellent well regarded company (that consistently ranks in the top 100 companies to work for) who ALSO has been on the job 20 years and makes 40K for the EXACT same job, with the same level of responsibility. These two women are close in age, similar degrees, similar jobs and responsibilities, both live in the same region ( so region isn’t the issue) YET one is making double that of the other, and the one making DOUBLE is a state employee, with the pension and health benefits/time off etc. of a state employee. ( I REALLY know both these people VERY well and REALLY am not exaggerating one iota). At the same time, my sister who is a school teacher in the same area, works for the public school system, has a masters degree (WHICH is required for her job and cost her a pretty penny) and must take courses regularly (at her own expense) in addition to buying supplies for her classroom (out of her own pocket) AND makes 54K after 20 years! What is wrong with this picture? I think the admin at the top company is properly being paid. Her bennies are good and SHE is happy with her company, her job and her compensation package. SHE feels it is appropriate for her education level, skill level, responsibility level, and time in the company. I think the admin who works for the State is majorly overpaid for what she does and for her level of responsibility. The reason she makes so much is automatic cost of living increases and raises based on seniority, since she has been in her job over 20 years she is really racking it in for WHAT she does. My sister, the teacher on the other hand, will NEVER make what the admin does, even though she has MORE responsibility, REQUIRES more education and has a much more important job. SO my beef, isn’t with the public unions per se, but with how some of these public unions for the NON essential workers have been able to over step their bounds and gain concessions from the state that don’t seem warranted for the jobs they do…I think THAT is what needs to be addressed. I think the teachers, police, firefighters and other ESSENTIAL services should be off the table in any conversation regarding their right to bargain collectively and SHOULD not be at risk of having their pay/benefits reduced as in my opinion THE essential workers are NOT the problem! » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 18, 2011 @ 10:45 pm http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41672854/ns/politics-more_politics/ Why do people comment on articles without actually READING them! According to them, I was firm but fair. I was a cloud nine, after they told me that! π I think the reason I was that way, was I never wanted to be one of those I didn’t care for…you know? » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 17, 2011 @ 10:44 pm Come to think of it, she was only the 2nd female boss, I had ever had. Interesting. Good point though, she was not only a bitch but a back stabbing, FAKE as FAUX news kind of bitch. GAWD, why I dreamed of her after all these years…ugh…I can still remember the dream vividly! MY ex-boss is still there too, I obviously am not…but I have a couple of friends over there that are still being subjected to her tirades (they need their jobs and haven’t had the opportunity to find something else, then the bad economy hit…and they found themselves stuck) {sigh} » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 17, 2011 @ 10:42 pm I should look into one of those! Do you know of a good one? » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 17, 2011 @ 10:38 pm Oh David, what nice comment. As I told you your first day here, I like you so much better over here, than over there! I had a dream staring the WORST boss, I’ve ever had. In my dream, it was now and I went back to work for her and she pulled the same stunts she did back then….it was a MISERABLE dream to say the least! » Posted By Abbyrose86 On February 17, 2011 @ 7:31 pmComments Posted By Abbyrose86
I don’t think we have anything like that in NY.
