However, my only concern with the independents is they tend to “split the vote” of whichever party is the one under scrutiny at the time…thus providing an opportunity for the OTHER party to take over. Sadly, our system IS based on a two party concept and thus the voting process is based on a majority 51% to 49%. I go to a variety of different places and just read the opinions of the average man on the street and then I save my thoughts for here. It’s really been a real education. Sadly, there are just TOO many people who HAVE NO clue about our history, our political process, our system of economics and business, as a whole. So many times, the comments are based on childish concepts learned in grade school or based on out and out propaganda. I’m very disheartened by the lack of real knowledge. NOT all the comments are like that mind, you and some are obvious trolls who are looking to cause trouble…but others are just simply ignorant and no amount of actual data and evidence will sway them. My fiance was telling me this morning about man who comes into the restaurant/bar where he works, who is a staunch teapartier….This man causes fights in the bar all the time. As a matter of fact, they had to kick him out yesterday because he was causing such a ruckus. He has no facts or informed opinion to base his vile muckrucking on, but yet he insists that he is right, regardless of any opinions offered that contradict his already set in stone ideas. This is what we are up against! How can one even reason with people such as this? I did a paper last night for my cultural anthropology class on the progressive movement of the late 1800’s/early 1900s. Those progressives were very similar in nature to the teapartiers in many ways, more so than the progressives of today. The progressives of the turn of the century, were actually really republicans and were very self righteous and quite interested in legislating morality. However, those progressives were also interested in righting income inequalities and were concerned about the plutocrats…as well as the moral failings of society as a whole. Another difference the turn of the century progressives were educated.
