And Kalima, just for the record, I am only a 2nd generation American. My MOTHER is from Poland…her family left in Between the two great wars. My father was a WW11 vet and his father a WW1 vet. My mother’s family comes from the part of Poland that was in Russian control and my fathers from the part that was in German control.

MY family WAS directly effected by the atrocities. BTW….my family’s country did NOT exist for 100 years….most American’s don’t know that…POLAND ceased to exist for 100 years…and it wasn’t until after WW1 that the nation came to be a nation again. AND sadly it didn’t last long, before Hitler invaded.

12 million were killed in the Holocaust…6 Million Jews, and 6 million poles/gypsies and others.

Facts are important.

In contrast the US killed 14 million Indigenous people..through it’s history.

THAT doesn’t compare, how?

I think our nation is guilty of VERY bad behavior toward the Natives and African Americans. HORRIFIC behavior. I really don’t see how our nations history towards those two races, isn’t a parallel to the German’s treatment of the Jews.

While that is TRUE that ALL nations have blood on their hands, our past DOES compare to that of Hitler or Stalin, especially for those who were NOT WHITE~!

THAT is a historical fact, that actually didn’t end very long ago.

Segregation and Jim Crow only ended 45 years AGO!

Indigenous People were still being rounded up as children and sent to indoctrination camps through the 1920’s.

THIS is not ancient history…and again what we did to the people of Iraq was pretty bad.

AND let’s not even get into our poverty rates in this country. It’s brutal.

WE are not all that….even though many pretend we are.

I completely disagree…I think you are looking at the US from one perspective, that of a middle class person, and I’m assuming white.

THROUGHOUT our history, THROUGH to today, we are still doing it, treating others BADLY, who don’t look like us or live like us.

WE are no better than any other empirical nation. AND make no mistake, the US is an Empire.

REALLY? You really think that?

From the almost extermination of the Indigenous tribes and the literally MILLIONS of natives killed and tortured, to slavery and the MILLIONS of tortured and kept in shackles of African Americans for economic gain….TO the atrocities our nation committed on the Japanese in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as our internment of those born of Japanese decent during WWII….to the experiments listed in the article, to our ATTACK of a sovereign nation (IRAQ)..our nation is NOT without serious blood on our hands. And to pretend OUR nation is NOT guilty of engaging in extreme human suffering, is simply without truth or honest review.

Our nation has ALWAYS provided WELL and treated WELL a certain segment of society…HOWEVER, we have not always been so decent to those deemed inferior.

As such, our national hypocrisy SHOULD be called out.

PERSPECTIVE is key. And often our national perspective is skewed inappropriately to ACCEPTING the atrocities WE ourselves have carried out, by laying justification for our nations actions. HOWEVER, we don’t have the same understanding of those from other nations and cultures. ERGO we are hypocrites, as we BLINDLY accept the propaganda about other nations and than make excuses for our own, less than savory behaviors.

I’m so glad you didn’t take my comment in a negative way, even though I framed it in a ‘tongue and cheek’ sort of way.

I am so truly grateful to have had the gay perspective in my life. I feel fortunate to have had so many wonderful gay men friends in my life…truly.

I don’t think I would be the person I am today, without them.

My brother, especially. He is 50 years old…just turned 50 two weeks ago.

He has had it tough. He is the kindest, most giving, thoughtful, wonderful man I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing…and he has been through hell and back due to his being a gay man in the time he was born into.

HE hid it for so long…although I, his baby sister…always knew. HE was open with me…to a point. He let me in…but never really told me, he left it to his friends to let me know.

My parents were very old fashioned and very conventional. HOWEVER, he loved them both so, and they loved him so…it was a subject that NEITHER ever really acknowledged. It was weird, I can’t explain it…they knew, especially my Dad, but he didn’t talk about it and my brother and my brother to evaded the subject.

HE gave up much of his life for them.
My mother died in 1989, my dad in 2002.

My brother took care of my dad after my mother died, and then I took over for him in 1999. For 10 years the man gave up his life to take care of our father.

WE, as a family, owe him so much. HE felt it was on HIM, because he didn’t have children or a family of his own, as the other 4 of of us did. Such sacrifice and such love this man has for his family.

Two years ago, my darling brother discovered he had a hereditary heart problem. The man always took great care of himself…ate right, exercised regularly but still ended up with a quintuple bi-pass.

At one point he worked for me…but many didn’t no know he was MY brother…as we having different surnames. The comments I heard when other realized he was gay…were enough to make one’s temper go to the ‘postal territory’. It was horrible.
Sorry 2ccp for ranting…but he means the world to me! 🙂

THANKS jkk…I’m being driven crazy by this class…seriously…I’m a good student. I LOVE to learn…but this class…the only thing I think would be worse is logic…(my niece took a logics course last semester and shared with me many of her lessons…I got ill!_):)

Thanks…this is my second foray into the class…the first time, I dropped it because it made me crazy. BUT I AM almost done…this is my last semester IF i pass this class…but I don’t want my GPA to suffer…I’m an A student!

OH PW…you know I’m a business woman, and like numbers BUT statistics is driving me bonkers!

So many of the concepts are crazy and don’t acknowledge OTHER numbers…maybe, I am reading too much into it…and maybe THAT is the problem.

I truly meant no disrespect 2ccp…on the contrary. My darling brother, who I love with all my heart, is a gay man. Thanks to him and his friends,who I had the great fortune to live with when I was a naive 18 year old girl, I was provided many gifts through their perceptions of life and their tribulations.

As to some of the Native tribes use of homosexual acts, I’m not really a fan of their ideals. 🙂

AS to your comment about the hetro males view of lesbians, I too find it rather disturbing…they don’t seem to get ‘it’.

WHO else hated Statistics class? THIS is the second time I’m taking this course and I still hate it!

While I see some value in some of the concepts…my brain just doesn’t work this way.

First of all…the whole using GREEK symbols and ‘words’ sucks…because most of us, don’t SPEAK GREEK! n

Second of all, I’m not a fan of the whole ignoring outliers thing…as I PERSONALLY think outliers DO provide a very important understanding of things.

THIRD, most of the textbooks are horribly written! MY goodness…don’t these idiots REALIZE the purpose of COMMUNICATION is to COMMUNICATE! I mean, really. WHY do they feel the need to structure the text in such a way as to CONFUSE the issue?

When I dissect the text, I can actually make it ‘make sense’ but if I just read it as it…it’s goobldygook.

I think you hit the nail on the head. BUT it’s been my experience (I’ve been one of those lucky woman who have had many gay male friends) that gay men ‘get it’ and are more honest than their hetro counterparts.

I am of the firm belief that ALL woman should have gay male friends in their life. Seriously. I am SO blessed to have many in in my life, and I wouldn’t trade them or my lesbian girlfriends for ANYTHING in the world.

Gay men, especially, are the BEST friends a girl can have! They ACTUALLY will tell you, when that dress looks bad on you or if your new haircut sucks! THEY are the first to tell you, your boyfriend is a jackass and is eying all the other women (or men) in the room.

The gay man I have known who have accepted themselves have been a blessing in my life. Selfishly, I’m very glad I’ve had their perspective, as they have stopped me from many bad decisions and have helped me ‘see’ things I might not have noticed.

Seriously, in many ways…you guys have a gift. Sadly too many in society don’t realize it.

As a woman, I don’t really get the whole prostitute thing…but I don’t have a penis…and my sexual organs behave a little differently. 🙂

But on the whole, the whole sex thing and what people need to ‘get off’ is not really a concern to me….I really don’t care what adults do in their bedrooms…so long as I am free to do what I want or don’t want…why should I care? Seriously.

So far as drugs are concerned, I don’t really have an issue with them…nor do I have an issue with alcohol.

To each it’s own, and everyone needs something to get them through this thing called life!

As such all these so called “moral” issues, in my mind, are just a way to deflect from the REAL issues that face mankind.

But that’s just my opinion…what do I know? 🙂

Thanks A. I’m glad you understand my position. I’m truly concerned about another Hitler, and the whole W fiasco solidified my concern. As such, that concern often pushes me to vote for party rather than for what I REALLY believe and want.

And thank you for clarifying your Hitler comment. I was confused at first. And you are right, there was much collusion involved. Again I point to the W fiasco, as he wasn’t really ELECTED either…but we got him anyway…{sigh}
