I too like to spell out words and like language. HOWEVER, language evolves and always has…we don’t speak or use the English Language in the same way as our ancestors did.

Thus, we should be cognizant of changes in our culture and how those changes in communication have changed over the course of time, and how communication changes need to be acknowledged IF we truly to continue to be able to effectively communicate.

As to the contention that those in their 20’s are not kids…I beg to differ. Again this is a cultural thing and not necessarily something based on the arbitrary use of attributing a particular numerical age to that of being mature. I always found that to be a silly concept myself. But I digress…

While the youth of today are more technologically and sexually savvier than those in previous times…they are LESS mature and sophisticated in terms of overall abilities that were normal to past generations.

Today’s youth (i.e those in their 20’s and even 30’s) are products of their society and the culture with which they have been exposed. Most 20 somethings are nothing more than teenagers in the way their minds work and in their ability to be truly independent.

Cultural and democgraphic trends and analysis DO back that claim up. Thus MOST young people of that generation have been sheltered and have been keep immature and without real responsibility….by their parents. Helicopter parents ARE real.

As to the claim that texting political messages would seem less intelligent or lazy…again I beg to differ. THIS is how people communicate today…and to pretend texting, twitter, facebook and other media are NOT influential and thus not a relevant form of using today’s media would be, I think, irresponsible.

There was a time (the 1950’s) when there were those who thought TV was just a fad and could not be used for political messaging.

Oh…please understand the kids in question are ALL in College or have gone to College, a couple are due to Graduate next month…so it’s not like these kids aren’t AWARE of proper word usage…they just don’t think about it in their day to day lives, they consider the proper use of words….as a relation to school work NOT communication.

Also, I am not good at text lingo nor am I up on the latest street lingo…so for me, it was difficult to come up with catchy phrases that used such lexicon…HOWEVER, I’m talk to the kids tonight and get a better listing of what is in these days.

So I’m thinking about messaging and marketing of the ideals that the progressives and liberals espouse…and I’m thinking IF we truly wish to get and KEEP the attention of the 20 somethings…we need to start using THEIR language and their manner of communication.

Most 20 somethings and even 30 somethings are big users of TEXT lingo and on line lingo.

For example, my family and I (as well as the kids friends) have been having nightly Scrabble tournaments. IT’s super cute…anyway the kids who range in age from 20-27, all have an annoying habit of trying to put text lingo or other street lingo on the Scrabble board. When brought to their attention, they laugh and say they forgot how the real word is spelled or have don’t remember other words that mean the word they are laying down.

So, It got me thinking….with text lingo, street lingo and online abbreviations having become a big part of the younger generations lexicon…perhaps OUR messaging should use more of that lingo and concepts in our marketing strategies.

I saw this cute facebook post the other day and thought why can’t we use such concepts in the left’s marketing of ideas?

For those more creative than I…this should be relatively easy to redo as a political message, that can be shared via social media.

Other thoughts I had to get the youth’s vote and keep their attention…

Ok, granted these are catty and don’t speak to the issues…HOWEVER, do most kids today really care about the issues? NO…but they do care about how people look and they do care about celebrity shit and they do care about being hip and trendy.

So maybe we should be trying to make a joke of the GOP elite to the young who ARE our future? And post them where the 20-30 somethings tend to hang out…

OK…so the heart attack kids are at it again…the Buffalo Sabres won tonight. I’m not sure how to feel about this…on the one hand…I LOVE having them in the playoffs…on the other…I am convinced that IF a Buffalo Sports team EVER manages to win a championship, it is a bad omen…meaning the end of mankind. As a Buffaloian, born and raised…the only way a Buffalo sports team wins a championship means an END of mankind.

And further to that….only 5-7% of Americans have a net worth over a million dollars. 5-7%

So are we to assume, based on the right wing talking points that 93-95% of Americans are lazy?? THAT doesn’t seem right to me…I see many people of various ages, backgrounds and educational levels, working their tails off and not having enough time with their children and families…people who work in low paying service jobs such as waitresses/Chefs’/ store clerks…people who spend literally 8-10 hours on their feet…busting their asses and making very little money. I see people working in construction and in home improvement, yard care, retail, customer service, etc…who literally work 10 plus hours a day, with few breaks…are we to assume these people are lazy?? NO…these are NOT lazy people…not in the least. These aren’t stupid either, they are just people who haven’t had opportunity or luck or a highly marketable skill or maybe they are too moral…but lazy…NO.

After the President’s speech yesterday, I’ve been really thinking about the social compact that he brought up…and I have question for the media and the left wing pundits specifically..

WHY doesn’t the media and the left CONSTANTLY bring up the fact that the poverty rate in the US has grown exponentially over the last 20 years????

This article from September of last year on MSNBC shows that in 2009 43.6 MILLION Americans are living in poverty. That number is almost 2 years old and I am sure it has increased.

43.6 MILLION people…in contrast there are 400 billionaires in this country. According to the US census only 1.3 million Americans report an income of 250K and over.

LET’s look at those numbers again…43.6 MILLION living in poverty…Which the government defines as $10,080 per YEAR for an individual and $22050 for a family of 4.

AND only 1.3 MILLION Americans with incomes over 250K….so are we supposed to believe the right wing inanity that claims that 43.6 million are just LAZY and that those 1.3 million are all THAT much more intelligent, hard working, productive, etc??

WHAT utter hogwash. 43.6 Million vs 1.3 million.

Something is wrong with the social compact.

@Artist, good point about Bristol…It’s utterly mindboggling the disconnect between what their heroes and the ideals they pretend to extol and what they actually do!

I’m with you too, that I haven’t been able to stomach the other sites anymore. The nastiness and utter ignorance is just so over the top!
