I’m not a big fan of Marx anyway, although the practice of communism, the real thing, does not actually have the bad points the vocal ones try to imply (while knowing nothing on the subject).

But I am sure any political science professor who tried to teach what they really are would be launched into space, sans space ship or space suit, post-haste.

Just had a thought. I’d like to see someone do a version of a Shakespeare play, as done via Twitter.

Unfortunately, nobody would get the point, and it would be hailed as making Shakespeare relevant to today’s youth.

We can point to evil acts with some alacrity (although some people have different opinions regarding certain acts), but when evil is applied to an opinion or an idea, I cringe.

Evil is an over-used, under-defined word.

I would prefer if we could find ways to state a viewpoint without using the word.

“The only reason I can see to justify that viewpoint is if you have a decidedly mailicious and sadistic urge to subjugate any population that happens to have a different appearance than you.”

Much more effective, but it doesn’t work on Twitter.

Yeah. Some versions are good, some are okay, some are just bad.

And yes, I have seen an interpretation where the characters were all vampire teens, and Yorick talked back. {{shudder}}

Oh, wow.

Basically, Palm Springs Police ran a sting to “cut down on public sex”. But only targeted gays in a gay neighborhood.

Then it came out that the county DA had made a deal with the police in advance to charge those arrested with sex offender status, based on a technicality that children *could* have witnessed the acts.

One of the police officers was asking men to expose themselves. The chief of police and the head detective were caught on the department’s own surveillance tapes making nasty comments about gays.

It’s a mess, and it is still polarizing the community down there, at least among those who are aware of it. (Palm Springs has a *lovely* ostrich population)

deygirl, don’t quit. Go to a doctor. Find out what the process for Worker’s Comp is in your state/company. File for it.

Go to the doctor every day if you have to.

Worker’s Comp is not just for absences and missed work (although that does help establish a case). It is also for medical treatment.

If the environment (air, water, building, etc.) is making you sick, see a doctor who specializes in environmental medicine. If it is the job itself, coworkers, boss, or job-related stress, you may need to get supporting documents from a psychiatrist or psychologist.

True. Some states do allow this, but getting approval for benefits is difficult (if not impossible). This is why some businesses will claim the worker was a “technical quit”.

A friend of mine had his schedule FUBARed by his employer. He literally wasn’t on the schedule, and nobody could (or would, more likely) fix it. Since the company was on a computer-based timeclock, he could not get into the building unless he was on the schedule, and could not log into the computer unless he was scheduled.

He had to get a supe visor to come to the door to sign him in, and then had to sit at his desk doing nothing for the entire day. After more than a week of this, he told his supervisor, “let me know when it gets fixed, I’ll call in every day”.

He called every day for several week – and then found out he had been marked as a technical quit the second day he had called in.

He got no benefits, and had to fight to get his last paycheck (for the period where he sat doing nothing).

I have seen it “under the influence” (as recommended by acquaintances) as well as without, and it strikes me as a particularly misogynistic and child-hating (another word to look up), not to mention self-loathing and serious issues regarding sex and procreation.

And it still does not make sense at all.

I remember 9-11 very well. That night, gas prices across the country sky-rocketed. In one place (Iowa, I believe) where an acquaintance was living, gas actually reached $12.

Pseudo-cons insist that price controls amount to “entitlement” programs, but even the GOP got a little ticked off at the time. Dubyah had to tell his oil sponsors to knock it off.

I do not think I have seen an apology for linking homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality, as they did back in 2009 (gods – two years ago next month – how time flies).
