Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

@jkkFL:

But then they’d put out a Request for Bid for the “proper” (i.e., most politically-connected) contractor to build and maintain it.

PW, that’s “an organic passageway for the expedited delivery and distribution of human fecal matter and effluvium”.

“Expedited” makes it sound better.

I, personally, would just call him a grossly-impacted asshole.

Guess which word the emphasis would be on.

Poll time!

And mine: Reverend Mitchel McAllister.

Where are they now:

Denver did time in a penitentiary for grand theft kitty treat, and is now head of a prison ministry program.

Maisie was later caught hoarding kitty treats, stolen from multiple sources, and confessed that she gave Denver rufies to make him think he did it.

Radiation can contaminate anything that it passes through (or near). Even molecules can be contaminated.

There’s just no way to fix that.

Actually, the PFC is paid about $25K a year.

The private contractor pays the trucker a bit more than that, but they also pay the payroll department, their HR department, their supervisors, the supervisor’s manager(s), and the CEO who works hard slipping blank checks into senators’ pockets.

This is how we save money.

Because privatizing government services places those services under “market forces” which, through the magic of no-bid contracts, drives the price down by adding millions of dollars to operational costs of those services.

As operational costs go up, the number of services provided to consumers is restricted, which reduces the cost of providing those services.

In other words, those contractors are needed to drive up the budget requirements while reducing the amount of services, which is what corporate whores in government service are paid to do.

Thank the gods, and all those volunteers.

Now to hold my breath until the electricity is turned on.

Krugerrands, anyone?

Besides, why should you get paid when all of us poor, honest, hard-working bloggers are doing all the work for you?

😛

Being of Irish extraction and neither Catholic nor Protestant, I do not celebrate St. Padraigh’s day.

And quite frankly, the man was a traitor and a murderer. I’m more likely to celebrate National Yay-the-Regicidal-Theocrats-Survived Day (Thanksgiving here in the US).

But congratulations to all the Scots who survived the Ides of March!
😀

That was sarcasm? I thought it was an excellent idea.

Like I said, give the people what they want.

I would refer you to the first chapter of Arthur Clarke’s [i]2001: A Space Odyssey[/i]. Obviously, civilization starts with killing off the tribe on the other side of the river.

After all, it’s the only part of the movie neo-cons watch, as the rest of the movie is rumored to have sex with robots.

I didn’t say anything about giving it to you myself. I said that you *may* have it, not that I was handing it out.

And I don’t have that many “Non-consecutive serial numbers and unmarked” (as PW suggested) quarters.

» Posted By 2ndClassCitizenPundit On March 17, 2011 @ 2:40 pm

Yes, you may.

having served aboard an aircraft carrier (USS John F Kennedy CV [sic] 67), I can say there is no reason to have more than four aircraft carrier groups.

The only reason that aircraft carrier groups are needed (especially with air bases all over the world from which to deploy SigInt aircraft) is war.

Two carrier groups each in the Pacific and the Atlantic is more than enough.

Anybody know how much is being spent on maintaining the Mothball Fleet?

I would like to point out that Obama did not read from a TelePrompter for this address, so the national debt must have been paid off and the budget is already balanced.

The GOP must be happy that their calls for defunding TelePrompters have been answered. They can shut up now.

» Posted By 2ndClassCitizenPundit On March 17, 2011 @ 1:59 pm

It’s a question of giving the people what they want.

People want Obama to be a tyrant. Let him be a tyrant, then.

And Cheney tried. And came very very close.

An important lesson here: If you are having fun, don’t worry about how ridiculous you look.

» Posted By 2ndClassCitizenPundit On March 17, 2011 @ 12:38 pm

By all means, take care of yourself.

I’ve seen Rachel do that a few times.

Japanese helicopters dumping seawater on reactor to cool it

Very interesting comment far down, from a 12 year old boy. Somebody should hand that kid a college scholarship, preferably in international policy and law.

The time stamps I am seeing are correct. My time is updated from the Naval Observatories.

Beg pardon?

EBS was replaced by the Emergency Alert System in 1997.

[block]EAS has become part of IPAWS – the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, a program of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). EAS is jointly coordinated by FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Weather Service (NWS). The official EAS is designed to enable the President of the United States to speak to the United States within 10 minutes (this official federal EAS has never been activated). The EAS regulations and standards are governed by the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau of the FCC. Each state and several territories have their own EAS plan.[1]

The EAS covers AM, FM and Land Mobile Radio Service, as well as VHF, UHF and cable television including low-power stations. Digital television and cable providers, along with Sirius XM satellite radio, IBOC, DAB and digital radio broadcasters have been required to participate in the EAS since December 31, 2006. DirecTV, Dish Network and all other DBS providers have been required to participate since May 31, 2007.[/block]

either WordPress is not detecting your time zone correctly or that is the time in the time zone the server is in (?).

It’s okay, Cher, CNN and another news service are reporting that both dogs have been rescued. The wounded dog is receiving veterinary care in Mito, the guardian dog is being cared for in a shelter nearby.

Well, no, it’s not okay. There are estimates of hundreds of thousands of pets homeless and hungry right now.

I know we will all do what we can. I wish I had a passport, I’d flap my arms and fly there myself.

Not surprising. When Engler closed the mental hospitals in Michigan, most of the patients wound up on the streets, chronically homeless.
