Both are not as precise as we would like to think. Snipers will often choose a vantage point that is “embedded” – surrounded by peaceful civilians. So both options would wind up costing far more in lives. However, if a good spotter can find the sniper, the most effective weapon against them, while preserving life around the sniper, is a mirror. Redirect the sun’s rays into the sniper’s eyes, and they are unable to aim at least for a minute or two. As part of a past fiction project (now discarded) I was working on a concept of a speaker that is the reverse of a “shotgun microphone”. It would amplify and focus sound into a tight area, and could be effective for some distance. Something like this could disable a sniper for longer, but I never had an expert look at the idea. We need more means to non-lethally respond to things such as these snipers. Using lethal means usually winds up costing innocents their lives. He had to fight for two weeks to find a doctor that will take Medicare that was accepting new patients. When we got to the office, I found out that he doesn’t really have a doctor, this is a clinic. He will not have his own doctor. The nurse warned us not to waste too much of the doctor’s time discussing my partner’s health issues. We needed to just “pick two” and concentrate on that. We got there early so my partner could fill out the usual paperwork. We wound up waiting 45 minutes past his appointment before we were called in. My partner was under the impression he was getting a primary care physician, by the way. I just want him to have the medications he needs. When his name was called, I followed my partner in. The nurse tried to block my way. She didn’t see any reason I should be in the room with him when he saw the doctor, even though she had let several couples and a couple families go in together. Once in the exam room, we waited another 20 minutes for the nurse. Once the nurse was done cutting me off every time I tried to explain something, we waited about 40 minutes for the doctor. The doctor had a hard time keeping track of my partner’s medical issues. he finally asked us to wait, to speak to the behavioral health manager, and then we would see the nurse. It took another 30 minutes before the behavioral health woman came in. She spent fifteen minutes with us. She also lied to us about four times about the services that were available to both of us. Another 30 minutes went by, when the nurse barged in to demand why we were still there. She went back to talk to the doctor, and then told us we were free to leave. The front desk wasn’t sure if my partner’s appointment was over or not, and none of us knew when the doctor wanted to see my partner again. Straightening that out took another ten minutes while we stood there feeling stupid. My partner’s appointment was at 2:30. We got there forty minutes early to make sure we had time to fill out the medical histories and other paperwork. Paperwork, by the way, that was lost before the doctor got back to see us. We did not get home until after five pm. There are some who seem to think those of us getting “handouts” are somehow “proud” of it. I don’t see how anyone could spend 30 minutes being ground up by this system and somehow feel proud of being poor. My partner’s SSI was cut off the first of October, due to a clerical error. Those benefits were not restored until he wound up in the hospital for two weeks due to his high blood pressure. He got his first check on February 4th. He is still owed back benefits, but Social Security seems to have a new rule about “lump sum payments”, he won’t get the rest until August. Since January, according to my calculations, the two of us have spent more than 200 hours trying to get things back the way they are supposed to be, as far as his SSI and his health insurance. He spent more than thirty hours on the phone trying to find a new doctor here. Meanwhile, in exchange for that work he and I put in, we are treated like scum. Even though he is disabled, through no fault of his own, I might add, he is treated like a criminal for just trying to get the medications that he needs to function on a daily basis. There are a lot of people in the US right now seeking to keep a lot of different people separate from each other. There are quite a few people who would like you all to believe that my partner and I are the symptoms, if not the cause, of many of the problems in today’s society. I am going to keep fighting this war. But I am beginning to wonder if this is the place to do it. As I told Mom, I am taking a few days off. My partner is very familiar with SD and we have good friends in SF and San Mateo. Not sure where we will land yet, but it has to be better than this.
I’m having a bit of a hard time keeping my spirits up, but I keep plugging along. Saturday my partner wound up in the ER becaue it looked like he was having a stroke. Today, the big local homeles prevention/rehousing program informed us they can help him with housing (but not me) provided we no longer live together – and they will check randomly to make sure. But first he would need to wait a month until he is assigned a case manager by his doctor’s clinic.
I can’t log in very easily thse days, I use internet through a non-smartphone. Its a pretty clunky set-up. But I still have the Budget.POV@lunatextpublications.com email. Most communication these days is one through txt message (shrug).
Keep us in your thoughts, please. We’re discussing going back to southern California – at least people weren’t as blatant about using the f-word there.
