Murph–I’ve been wondering why none of the so-called media in our country has interviewed ANY cops. Not in a press conference; but in an interview like they do with protestors, victims’ families, civil rights leaders, and any other damn person they can parade in front of the cameras. Where are the “good” cops condemning their follow officers? If protesters are supposed to “take responsibility”, where are the other cops asking for these officers who commit these crimes to “take responsibilit?” Why aren’t the good cops speaking out about this? Why aren’t the so-called journalists in this country asking cops how they feel when they have to go out and spray tear gas, mace, and/or bullets at fellow citizens because of the actons of a few “rogue” cops? Why aren’t other police speaking out about this?

Glenn, that’s a good question. If I’m not mistaken, serving officer have to get permission to speak to the press. I’m guessing the commanders probably don’t want them to? I’ve seen plenty of interviews with retired officers that have condemned recent events. However, I haven’t seen many where an exploration of how things are or are not different now.

Has anyone been watching Larry Wilmore’s shows on the events in Baltimore? IMO, he’s shown the side of the protests we never get to see in the “lamestream media.” I’m beginning to like his show more and more.

Murph – This is what I have said for years. First, though, I have been very impressed with the majority of young people. They have been peaceful. However, there is NO Martin Luther King, Jr. There is no “person” leading a non-violent protest. So there will be people who either don’t believe in non-violent protest, are trouble makers or just young and totally unaware.

Sabreen….saw the full interview with that mom AND her son…..both were honest. Mom was scared and the kid was being a dumb kid….at one point he turned toward her and said “She loves me and does not want me in trouble….she gives me enough trouble by herself”and then he laughed.

Murph, I was really disturbed by that incident. This mother was so scared that her kid was going to be killed by the police that she felt that she had to beat her kid publicly to get him out of there. That is NOT something to laud or celebrate

Murph – You think I didn’t go upside my son’s head when I had to. His dad and I divorced so it was just he and I. I’m pretty laid back, but I had to play crazy with that kid. He didn’t dare disrespect me or any other adult that I know about. Never had a teacher tell me he was disresectful. He thanks me to this day and he’s 38 and I’m still scared.

Murph – I substituted middle school for a while. Truth be told I saw young white women teachers afraid of the black kids. I’d get in their faces in a heartbeat. I came between a girl and a teacher in the hall. The girl was talking to the teacher like she had lost her mind. I talked to exactly like I thought she had lost her mind.

I tried subbing high school. I thought because of my son, I could handle it. Wrong! This was during the height of crack. When I saw all the gold chains and 6 ft guys, I said, nope. As a Sub you have very little leverage with high schoolers. You gonna call their parents?

Funk – All I can say is that I was a real basket case in the ’90’s. I held it together, but I don’t know how. Not only was it the cops it was young black men killing others over drugs. It didn’t matter that my son wasn’t involved with that and that we lived in a pretty good community. You can’t keep a 16/17 yr old boy at home. So he could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
