Happy Friday, Planeteers! I just flew in the door from a potluck dinner and presentation on the need for immigration reform. Good stuff! So how is everyone this Friday evening?
kesmarn
Good evenng, Kes, I’m doing well, how about you?
glenn
What’s the scoop on immigration reform?
glenn
Doing well, glenn.
kesmarn
Well, the consensus at this meeting was that there’s not much hope for anything significant before the elections. So it’s better to focus on smaller and more person-to-person actions.
kesmarn
One woman there did get a pretty good phone call into Boehner’s office in which she told him to “stop making an ass of himself by suing the Prez and focus on immigration reform.”
kesmarn
Gee, kes, I can’t believe that congress will not do anything until after the elections. Considering they won’t even be in session until then, that is. So, what’s each person to do?
glenn
Great phone call, Kes. The boner isn’t going to do anything unless the tp says he can do anything.
glenn
This was a bunch of people from the Mercy system (education and health care) so providing housing to “illegals” (awful term) and charity care at the hospitals was a biggie.
kesmarn
And — right, glenn — the Boner won’t even use t.p. (as in wiping) without written permission from the TP and the Kochs.
kesmarn
Kes I’m not trying to be snarky, but what is the “answer” for treating “illegals”? I mean, haven’t we always had that problem? So, what is the “solution”?
glenn
This group is going to try to keep the heat on to get the Dream Act passed and get these 60,000 Central American kids taken care of.
kesmarn
Kes, and the permission is probably written on the tp he’s supposed to use to wipe.
glenn
Along with directions on how to remove his head from his ass before wiping?
kesmarn
Well, it’s nice to see “private” businesses, such as Mercy, trying to get the Dream Act passed. Perhaps I’m misinformed, but hasn’t the Dream Act already been passed? Do you mean an “update” to the Dream Act to include these new kids?
glenn
Wow… now I’m gonna have to google! But my impression was that the GOP had killed the Dream Act. Lemme check!
kesmarn
Yes, that too. Step one: Do not inhale or speak until head is removed from ass.
glenn
PPO, are you there?
glenn
Looks like the Dream Act only passed the Senate, and the Prez has taken some measures by way of exec action.
kesmarn
Hello everybody. hi glenn. Checking in before I have a cuppa
pinkpantheroz
Kes, I told you I could be misinformed; but I’m pretty sure the EA only applies to kids who immigrated here before a certain date, right?
glenn
Hey, PPO! How’s everything down under?
kesmarn
Hi, kes. Pretty much like the US at the moment. Terrorist teens being shot by police ( in defence, the terrorist was trying to decapitate the cop at the time.)
Has lots of info, but says that so far — no go on getting it officially passed. Too bad.
kesmarn
OMG, PPO! What is it with this decapitation thing? Did you see that some guy in Oklahoma decapitated a co-worker earlier today?
kesmarn
Kes, Thanks so much for taking the time to do that. So, once again the repubs block useful legislation. What a surprise!
glenn
How’s the cop in that situation in Oz?
kesmarn
Hello.
murphthesurf3
Hey Murph, how goes it?
glenn
Right, glenn. If their supporters actually cared — it’s be interesting to see what the GOP is going to claim as their “accomplishments” this election season.
kesmarn
Glenn….ok…nursing a bad tooth.
murphthesurf3
Hey, Murph! How are things in MO?
kesmarn
This weekend is the equivalent of the Superbowl here in Melbourne, with the Grand Final of the Aussie Football League. For those of us who couldn’t give a flying fart, there’s nothing! Radio has football, TV – football, newspapers, One page of news about footballers and then 35 pages of sport all about football!
pinkpantheroz
evening all. what does everyone think about Holder’s resignation?
sillylittleme
Oh… I have to say that sounds like a real yawner, PPO!
kesmarn
Kes–the same thing they’ve been touting as their accomplishiments all along–blocking everything the American people and the President want to do, such as gun laws, immigration reform, infrastructure, etc.
glenn
Hi, SLM!
kesmarn
Kes…Ferguson remains a symbol of everything wrong here….and an expereince of all that is wrong.
murphthesurf3
SLM, I think Holder is just “plum tuckered out”! Exhausted!
kesmarn
Murph, don’t you think the Ferguson mayor’s apology was too little too late, as well?
kesmarn
Kes…are you the ringmaster tonight.
murphthesurf3
SLM–Mixed feelings about Holder’s resignation. I do, however, love that PBO has told the repubs/tp that Holder won’t resign until his successor has been approved. Speaking of which, any news on who the successor might be?
glenn
I am indeed, Murph. AdLib had some family commitments.
kesmarn
kes – no question, but who will the Rs allow the President to hire?
sillylittleme
Kes, he actually attacked 2 cops outside a police station. The one slashed across the throat is improving and out of the ICU and the other stabbed is also getting better. This was an 18-year old afghani teen who comes from a good family and showed no previous leanings toward fundamentalism. Scary.
pinkpantheroz
glenn – heard Deval Patrick’s name out there, he’s said no thanks publically.
sillylittleme
publicly
sillylittleme
Kes…the mayor and the chief of police- sounded so fake, so phoney and it was not well received. Then the chief tried to march with the folks in Ferguson. Clueless.
murphthesurf3
SLM, as glenn is saying, the hilarious thing is that the Prez plans to keep Holder in place until a successor is approved. GReat move!
kesmarn
kes – what choice does he have, Holder waited over a year for a second in command.
sillylittleme
Murph, I think they hired an incompetent PR team and they’re following some silly directions from them.
kesmarn
Kes…likely
murphthesurf3
PPO- what is the item you were explaining about the Afghan teen?
murphthesurf3
SLM, all this hold-ups on nominees are absurd aren’t they?
kesmarn
“these” — not “this” sheesh!
kesmarn
kes – well that’s one way to make government seem incompetent
sillylittleme
Murph–saw on Rachel Maddow tonight that the Ferguson PD has not even filed an “incident report” on the Brown shooting. It may not be called an incident report, but by the PD’s rules, a report has to be filed when an officer shoots his weapon, yet no report has ever been filed in this case. So sad, to see the systemic incompetence, or is it just a dereliction of duty? I guess no one can criticize a report that was never written.
glenn
Right. Another way to say “gummint bad.” “Private sector (unregulated) good”!
kesmarn
Hi, Murph. a story here in Melbourne about a teen who was shot by police after he stabbed and tried to decapitate 2 cops
pinkpantheroz
PPO Oh!
murphthesurf3
what is it with people wanting to cut off people’s heads?
sillylittleme
PPO, it’s a relief to hear that both cops are still living. This woman in Oklahoma wasn’t so fortunate.
kesmarn
Glenn…and I think there is still a good chance that the cop gets away with it.
murphthesurf3
murph – likely, but his life will be crap from here on out
sillylittleme
Seems like everyone is trying to outcreep us by the grisliness of their murders.
pinkpantheroz
SLM I hope so IF it is as I think it was.
murphthesurf3
Do you think the Ferguson area will erupt if the cop gets off, Murph?
kesmarn
Kes- I do.
murphthesurf3
That’s my feeling too. This isn’t going to be easily forgotten,
kesmarn
BRB Coffee time!
pinkpantheroz
See you soon, PPO!
kesmarn
Murph–I agree. This particular cop may get away with it in Ferguson. The cop who shot the man reaching for his license has been charged with aggravated assault, so the cops aren’t getting away with it everywhere. I do think Ferguson is definitely a microcosm of how NOT to handle a police shooting.
glenn
ppo – why kill someone else when you can just kill yourself and not inflict harm on others.
sillylittleme
PPO stepped out for a coffee, SLM.
kesmarn
Glenn- the prosecutor wants to get reelected…so he packed the process to favor the cop
murphthesurf3
In so many of these cases, it’s only the video that keeps things from being totally swept under the rug, no?
kesmarn
kes – I’m slow at typing…
sillylittleme
Me too! (Besides being the Typo Queen!)
kesmarn
kes –
sillylittleme
Murph–I know one of the problems in Ferguson is low voter turnout in the African American community. Do you think that the voter registration drive that was taking place during the protests will have any effect on that election?
glenn
Some of them are really embarrassing (the typos). They look like Teabagger signs.
kesmarn
kes – they can’t be that bad…
sillylittleme
Kes–nothing you type could be as bad as tbagger signs!
glenn
glenn – if that doesn’t get them out to vote, nothing will…
sillylittleme
I did see one on a video tonight that read “English is our national Lanaguage.”
kesmarn
Glenn..it is all about anger there…
murphthesurf3
Kes–well isn’t it?
glenn
kes – oy vey
sillylittleme
Only if you’re Lawrence Welk, glenn…
kesmarn
Murph–I’m sure you don’t have a crystal ball, but do you think that anger will transfer itself into votes?
glenn
glenn..no….political impotency.
murphthesurf3
Kes–and a one and a two and a….
glenn
Ad…I do not think you were right by bashing Searing T. We can hopefully bring him back. That’s what makes us better.
exfanofariana
Murph–what a shame!
glenn
And a lanaguage-ah…
kesmarn
Hi, ex, how are you?
glenn
ExFan, AdLib is away this evening, but we can raise your concerns.
kesmarn
hey ex, ad isn’t here right now. I too don’t want to lose searing’s voice
sillylittleme

kesmarn

exfanofariana

glenn
ex – who are you speaking to?
sillylittleme
Hope I didn’t lose y’all there!
kesmarn
is anyone out there?
sillylittleme
All–while we’re on these serious issues, could we have a “latte salute” for a little comic relief? Or should we have a “scotty salute” ala gwb?
glenn
SLM..I am here.
murphthesurf3
SLM–I’m here, too.
glenn
Oh, glenn! Can you believe it?
kesmarn
Their actually willing to make a fuss over the Prez holding a cup of coffee!
kesmarn
I mean it’s not like he gave them the middle finger salute.
Good one, SLM! I love the “Minister of Silly Walks”!
kesmarn
kes – they made a stink about a brown suit
sillylittleme
murphthesurf3
kes – that poor dog
sillylittleme
Right! And remember Dijon mustard on his burger?
kesmarn
kes – obviously they have a brown problem…
sillylittleme
That would seem to sum it up, SLM!
kesmarn
Kes–Yes, I can, unfortunately. The “patriots” at foxso-callednews never miss a chance to denigrate the Commander-in-Chief during time of war. Oh wait, that’s only Democratic presidents. If it’s a republican president, then you have to support him. Do you all remember during the Vietnam War, that even though we had a Democratic president, that the right wing actually supported him just beause he was president?
glenn
Exactly! And the GOP sure as hell didn’t sue FDR during WWII!
kesmarn
glenn – they always support war when it is a failure, successes not so much. Remember Bosnia…
sillylittleme
Murph–Jon Stewart absolutely went on a rant about the “patriots” at foxso-callednews. It was brilliant and heartfelt!
glenn
SLM, Ah, but then, in their twisted version of Islam, it’s instant heaven ( but wait, there’s more – virgins!) if you kill yourself while killing unbelievers, , but plain suicide is forbidden!
pinkpantheroz
ppo – spot on!!
sillylittleme
Murph–what absolutely pisses me off about the pic of gwb is it’s not even a salute!
glenn
FOX really is virtually treasonous. And an impartial study said that 58% of what they say is false. I’m surprised it wasn’t higher!
kesmarn
Kes–I agree. Only 58%?
glenn
SO — what does everyone think of the way the Prez is handling the ISIS situation — and his speech at the UN?
kesmarn
Kes–as with everything in the Middle East, there is no simple solution, and everything is neither black nor white, right nor wrong. I’m afraid the consequences of these bombings will just lead to more ISIS followers. However, I do lke that the President has formed a coalition and we are not going it alone. I see the British parliament voted to participate in the bombings, but only in Iraq, not in Syria. Also, they will not put “boots on the ground.”
glenn
kes – I missed it, what did you think?
sillylittleme
Have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYcSqIuqkz4
murphthesurf3
Sorry did not work.
murphthesurf3
I thought it was a good, strong speech and it seemed to be well-received. And glenn, yes — it’s so complex. For every action, there’s a reaction. And yet — it doesn’t seem that we can refuse to act. If you know what I mean.
Kes–I have said it before; I would like to see more ME countries participating, especially the Saudis. However, the British parliament will act in Iraq because the Iraqi government has asked for help. They will not bomb in Syria, however. I agree, it doesn’t seem that we can refuse to act, but it’s one of those “damned if we do; damned if we don’t” situations, IMO.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Viewers of the KTVA-TV 10:00pm news on Sunday got quite a surprise when reporter Charlo Greene not only outed herself as the owner of a medical marijuana business, but also promptly quit on the air. WATCH: ALASKA REPORTER WHO SAID ‘F*** IT, I QUIT,’ FOR WEED BIZ FURTHER EXPLAINS HER REASONING Greene did a story on the Alaska Cannabis Club, without revealing her connection to it. Afterwards, she announced that she was the club’s owner and was quitting her job at the station. “Now everything you heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy for fighting for freedom and fairness which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” she said. “And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, (expletive) it, I quit.”
murphthesurf3

I was just going to use the same words, glenn. “damned if we do; damned if we don’t.” I think I read that France is bombing in Iraq as well.

glenn

glenn
Wasn’t the entire economy supposed to be collapsing in ruins due to Obamacare right about now? I can’t even count how many GOPers said that earlier this year.
kesmarn
What happened??
kesmarn
Did anyone else see the other shot-while-unarmed-black incident. At least that cop is in the slammer for it.

kes, of course I’m sad to see AG Holder go, but understand he’s been on the job a lot longer than most. I think he’s done a great job. I know he’s been criticized for not locking up the banksters, but much of what they did was legal. I’m also grateful for his work on attemping to stop voter supression and criminal system.
sabreen60
kes, I pouted long enough, so he got the message.
sabreen60
I know! He’s had enough work to keep three attorneys general busy! And a friend who knows Deval Patrick said that she heard that Holder took a lot of the flak that was aimed at the Prez. Which could not have been easy.
kesmarn
I’m just glad you didn’t find the Vox bar closed up for the night when you finally got here!
kesmarn
Yes, I heard that also. Holder was PBO’s shield. Well both of them have been so abused. It’s really a shame. The day Holder announced his resignation, the Republicans including Boehner were just disgusting. I don’t recall Bush’s AG and his crooked peons being denigrated as badly.
sabreen60
