Vox Populi, our weekly live chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7:00pm PT. Hope to see you then!

AdLib7 days ago

So…my daughter’s team won the first game of a 2 out of 3 series to go to the college World Series but…they lost the other 2 so their season and long careers as softball players is over. We’re celebrating their amazing seasons and championship this year so I don’t know if I’ll make it here tonight but I will be back to always here at Vox starting next week. Thanks for understanding.

AdLib7 days ago

Hellow everyone just another fun day at the good ole Supreme Court Trump lost again.

twilson117

Ad – Ohhh… can’t decide how to feel now. YES! CHAMPIONS. I’m am sorry they’re not going to national, but this is SUCH an amazing victory all on its own!!!

choicelady

TW!!

choicelady

TW – I’m sort of losing track, but I believe that is 5 defeats in 5 SCOTUS cases. Does NOT bode well for The Don.

choicelady

The more he looses the happier I am

twilson117

TW – totally agree!!!

choicelady

I see Ad’s daughter’s team didn’t make it all the way I’m sure they’re sad about that but it looks like they had a great season.

twilson117

Did you hear that yesterday it was 9-0 t hat people CAN sue cops in police shootings AND that the circumstances around the shooting are evidence. This FLAT out stops Trump’s “immunity” pledge to cops that they can do anything and get away with it.

choicelady

TW – yes, they won’t go national, but their Western Regional championship is AWESOME!!

choicelady

I didn’t see that been a bit busy with some of writing projects but that’s a good thing.

twilson117

His daughter will have bragging rights forever, even if she and her teamates did win the nationals. It’s still a big thing.

twilson117

TW – I think it may be the linchpin. If cops have no immunity for everything, they will be loath to engaged in oppression.

choicelady

TW – I can’t be happier for Ad’s daughter and her team.

choicelady

CL so this 9-0 that cops can be sued in police shootings that sounds like bye-bye to the immunity they hid under for years.

twilson117

That’s correct, TW, and it means Trump’s desire to make them immune in ALL things is totally off the table.

choicelady

Can you tell me more on that ruling?

twilson117

That is about all I know other than the fact that the evidence around the encounter that led to a shooting IS EVIDENCE and important. Lawsuits have been hampered by failure to deal with what came BEFORE the shooting. Now it matters. Now it’s evidence. Now you can sue the cops and get some justice for families. It ALSO means Trump cannot give total immunity, and cops ARE liable. ONLY shocker in this case actually is the vote: 9-0

choicelady

Was that a ruling that came down today? If so can look it up. It’s about time the courts reversed that considering all the wrongfull shootings that have happen Breonna Taylor for example.

twilson117

Today’s ruling on use of the Alien Enemies Act to remove habeas corpus, was 7-2. Do NOT need to tell you who the 2 were.

choicelady

Tw – exactly. Don’t know if it came early today or yesterday, but yup – it’s recent and GOOD.

choicelady

I have a copy on my desk I think it will be good reading

twilson117

TW – this little group of our consists of the only non lawyers I know who LIKE reading court decisions!

choicelady

We may be certified geeks, but we wear the mantle well.

choicelady

CL Altio I expected Kavanaugh I didn’t I thought for sure it would be Thoma

twilson117

Yes, I like to read the decisions to see how they got there it doesn’t come from any desire to be a lawyer, just informed and to she how they came to their decisions.

twilson117

I read it WAS Alito and Thomas. Wow – don’t like K. did that. My SIL worked with him pre-SCOTUS and LIKED him. He goes to her church and eats at one of our family’s fave DC area restaurants. I am not happy to learn this.

choicelady

The age of the Geek so says Hardison from Leverage

twilson117

TW – one can do worse than to be a geek.

choicelady

I dodged a bullet some weeks back at my BIL’s funeral. WAS a chance K would have been there. He was not.

choicelady

I have it right here on my desk will read it later as I said I was suprise at Kavanaugh and not Thomas. Trump and his supporters just want to destroy the democracy they claim to love.

twilson117

TW – seriously. Kavanaugh is unreliable.

choicelady

May he had one too many beers.

twilson117

I will gently try to probe my SIL on this. She knew him pretty well. She WANTS to like him, but…

choicelady

TW –

choicelady

I find it baffling how some of these Justices seem to want autocracy, why?

twilson117

Good point. WHY?

choicelady

But the flip is that overall, other than the consistency of Alito, civil rights and human rights seem to matter. Not always. Not consistently, but they do matter.

choicelady

What delightfully surprises me is the fidelity Barrett has to the textual law. She’s bad on INTERPRETATION but good on textualism. I am surprised. Delightedly but surprised.

choicelady

Civil rights do matter I am in full agreement with that. But, some on the SC seem not to think so. That is what I find baffling. This orginalism bull, is utter nonsense.

twilson117

Originalism would weigh heavily on the side of civil rights. I studied colonial law c. 17th-18th C. and civil rights were central. I am going to write on it.

choicelady

I read and have microfilm on MA colonial laws. It’s amazingly progressive that got eroded after nationhood. But it was in place 1789.

choicelady

Interpertation of doucument written 200 years ago can be difficult that I understand.

twilson117

If one has the context, it changes things. I will whip up an article on it for Ad and us.

choicelady

Context does help. But, I think for some people who sit on the SC they allow their personal bias get in the way along with their egos thinking they know better. And damn it, some common sense as well.

twilson117

To change the subject, I have a gorgeous photo of PPO at his Yacht Club ball standing with the most gorgeous Black woman in a stunning red dress. He looks amazing in his tux, she in that dress. I didn’t ask but hope there’s more than just a date going on here.

choicelady

Alito knows no history. Thomas is a dork. Can’t read the others, but originalism in context changes the world.

choicelady

I am going to miss seeing his this year.

twilson117

Say more on orgiinalism in context

twilson117

Agreed. I love him, and this is sad. His gov’t advised against his coming here. How creepy is THAT?

choicelady

Given what is going on it makes sense.

twilson117

TW – I will. It’s a long, complex issue. I will post to Ad this coming week.

choicelady

TW – I agree. For HIS safety, it’s best to stay away.

choicelady

Ok look forward to that.

twilson117

choicelady

In way I have a bit of an understanding of what you are saying, I’m doing some research on a certain historical figure, comparing him to a current person and I can see where I have to check myself at times base on some of the things I am reading about this person. But, other sources I check confirm some of my thoughts.

twilson117

Life was very different in other eras, and we struggle not to impose 21st C. vibes on people from different times. They are NOT the same.

choicelady

Can you say about whom you are writing?

choicelady

You are correct

twilson117

Tom Dublin wrote of the Lowell Mill girls early 19th C. as if they were liberated women of today. Dumb.

choicelady

Well I looking at this Greek by the name of Alcibiades in a comparision to Musk.

twilson117

Fascinating!!! I surely know Musk and know the Alcibiades but never thought to compare them.

choicelady

Will LOVE to see what you have found!

choicelady

AD!!!

choicelady

Hey!

AdLib7 days ago

Well think about it, they have similar characteristics in a number of ways.

twilson117

Hey back atcha

choicelady

Hey Ad

twilson117

TW – I know almost nothing of Alcibiades.

choicelady

Just here for several minutes so I could say hi, will be driving back to LA.

AdLib7 days ago

Where are you now?

choicelady

In a manner of speaking he was the Musk of his time. Rich, brash, thought he knew everything was smart, but fickle for a certain point of view similar but still fleshing it out it will take a while but I will get there.

twilson117

So will all restaurants that use the phrase “86” now be sent to El Salvador?

AdLib7 days ago

Ad – SCOTUS would smack that down.

choicelady

I’m near San Diego. About a 2 hour drive.

AdLib7 days ago

TW – context. The context of time and space matter.

choicelady

Ad well, seems to have gotten Comey in trouble

twilson117

Ad – that’s not TOO bad. I am sorry they’re not going on, but I am honored to know your daughter and see her championship!!!

choicelady

No judge would allow the BS case against Comey to last long. Done in Summary Judgement.

AdLib7 days ago

TW – I have worked w people who use “86” all the time. It just means, this is done and over. Get RID of it. Nothing lethal about it.

choicelady

Ad – I’d think so. Stupid administration of thin-skinned white boys.

choicelady

Thanks CL. Very emotional for both the players and parents afterword but lots of laughter and happiness at the restaurant. This chapter of their lives has ended, new ones are about to begin.

AdLib7 days ago

CL it’s work in progress doing my research so I have something down the road and will be posted here on the Planet when I get it done but it is down the road. Also working on a Stephan Miller piece just finished reading Hate Monger that a-hole is a piece of work

twilson117

All day today #47 ranted about Swift and Springsteen. What adult DOES that?

choicelady

MAGAS and various companies pushed shirts and hats that said “86 46” when Biden was president. This is just part of the attempt to frighten anyone from speaking against Trump.

AdLib7 days ago

Ad – I am so glad they all can look forward and not back. They had a MAJOR victory. The future is glorious for them.

choicelady

Ad did you read about the man who bought his wife a Trump watch and it misspelled his name, it left the t off it says rump gotta love it.

twilson117

Ad – well, ICE showed up at the home of a Black pastor in the South over his social media critique of Trump. I am definitely in that category. We have a rule – do not open the door after 9 pm. Talk through a window.

choicelady

Tw – I did see it!! Rump. GREAT product control. NOT.

choicelady

TW – too funny!!

choicelady

Ad he deserves it, as far as I’m concerned

twilson117

Trump had huge losses the last two days. HUGE.

choicelady

He can’t lose enough as far as I’m concerned

twilson117

TW – AMEN!

choicelady

Indeed CL, they are champs!

AdLib7 days ago

Ad the internet can be spotty while you’re on the road.

twilson117

Ad – They ARE!!

choicelady

Can we all spell police state??

twilson117

TW – Yes, saw the Rump watch, it has an alarm that never stops.

AdLib7 days ago

Ad – do you take the 405 north into the valley? Seems better than 5.

choicelady

TW – that’s what the “you can sue the cops” ruling just STOPPED

choicelady

For Trump to invoke a police state he had to give total immunity. NOW he cannot!!! Cut the legs right out from under him.

choicelady

CL – 5 to the 405. Not too bad. And BTW, I should be leaving now so thanks for being here tonight despite my limited appearance but the upside is that I’ll be here from now on, on time. Have a great weekend all and see you next Friday!

AdLib7 days ago

So, my dear friends, Greg wound up in the ER early Monday morning w a fairly serious urinary blockage. I need to keep tabs on him. Doc visit Monday on removing the catheter. He is NOT a happey camper. Ad – drive safely and get home in one piece. We love you. I’m off, too, TW. Hugs to you both.

choicelady

Take care CL

twilson117

Bye for now!

AdLib7 days ago

He AD since you’re on the road I’m going to sign off have some reading to do so drive safe will catch you later.
