Hey PPO!
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey Ad!. Just adding to the limerick article. Brilliant concept!
pinkpantheroz
Cool! Thanks so much!
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey KT!
AdLib 7 days ago
Just to start off this Friday’s people’s discussion, I think this would be a wonderful theme song for Bernie Sanders’ campaign!
KillgoreTrout
Oops, here it is…
KillgoreTrout
Playing it now!
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey Ad, and my friend from down under. Hope you guys are doing well.
KillgoreTrout
Kt! Great song to start the day. Carson will be doing this soon:
pinkpantheroz

Doing very well tonight, KT. You?
AdLib 7 days ago
Pretty much always. Give or take a break down or two.
KillgoreTrout
I think Carson will be licking his wounds and asking himself…why don’t they like me?
KillgoreTrout
Here’s a pick:
AdLib 7 days ago
If Carson is in the single digits in SC, I think he calls it quits. Jeb too.
AdLib 7 days ago
I still think Tracy nailed it. Bernie talks about a revolution. But, the word revolution, is as scary as the word socialist. In the minds of those that know no better.
KillgoreTrout
Agreed KT, Tracy’s song hits that nail square on the head.
AdLib 7 days ago
Thus,..prior to this campaign, a revolution must be spoken of…in a WHISPER.
KillgoreTrout
It sure does Ad, and that’s why I love her. She has never been a Rock and Roll asshole.
KillgoreTrout

KT – I’m going to write an article on the fascinating revolution brewing inside the Dem party, different than the open revolution in the GOP. It’s very much a revolution though, a yearning for even greater change. Not to say that Obama hasn’t made huge Progressive change, he has and I do disagree with Bernie on hammering that as hard as he has. But It’s younger Dems wanting more and older Dems wanting incremental improvements.
AdLib 7 days ago
Ad, ANY increment right now in either Party would be revolutionary. such inertia is unacceptable
pinkpantheroz
Still, I saw a focus group on MSNBC that watched the debate and very interesting results. 24 – 9 said Bernie won but 24 – 9 thought Hillary would be the stronger President.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey glenn!
AdLib 7 days ago

another, and the first? Lennon changed a bit of the lyrics after it was first released. He was talking about being counted out of a violent revolution, then, coyly and almost imperceptibly saying yes I’m in. Very sly, like Dr. Winston O Boogie could be.
KillgoreTrout
Good evening, all. How is everyone?
glenn
The Dem Establishment is coming down strongly on Bernie, I think that’s going to backfire. The more Bernie looks like he’s being attacked by the Establishment and they are trying to press Hillary into the nom, the stronger the youth vote will rally behind him as well as the more Progressive Dems.
AdLib 7 days ago
Doing well glenn! And you?
AdLib 7 days ago
KT – Hence the ambivilent version of Revolution where he says “You can count me out…in.”
AdLib 7 days ago
I wouldn’t say, huge, Ad. I would say, incremental. Huge would be single payer and peace in the middle east.
KillgoreTrout
PPO – It’s all relative. Many dems would see incremental change as a big deal but it seems that younger Progressives want bigger changes sooner. Not odd for youth.
AdLib 7 days ago
exactly Ad. Those were the days, though. Lennon, for a time, was influenced by the Yippies, like Abby Hoffman, and Elderdge Cleaver…
KillgoreTrout
Well, the reality of our system only allows for incremental change. No great social or political (same thing these days) has ever achieved, leaps and bounds.
KillgoreTrout
KT – There are times when it seems that only physical revolution can change things, as during the Arab Spring but it need not be violent.
AdLib 7 days ago
KT – Generally, that’s true. But when Bush had a Repub Congress, he did make radical changes.
AdLib 7 days ago
Ad–Doing well, too. You know, you were talking above about incremental change vs. a revolution. Still haven’t made up my mind on that, but I was thinking about what a principal told us once when we, as a faculty, were meeting to determine what our goals for the school would be that year. When we had put up a few, one of the teachers said, “But we’ll never make those goals.” And the principal answered, “We may not make them, but we need to set our goals much higher than what we think we can attain. That way, we won’t become complacent.” Once again, that can be parsed many ways; but I think it definitely defines what is going on in the Dem party nowadays. There is nothing wrong with setting the bar high, but there is also a difference between challenge and frustration. That seems to me to be where we are now.
glenn
hey guys!
Harleigh
What else is meant by “phyiscal revolution? I do not advocate violence to bring about social change. It never works. It only brings about a new dictator, same as the old.
KillgoreTrout
If Bernie had a Progressive Congress, there could be huge change. Look at Obama with a Dem Congress, he passed the ACA which is huge change for the better.
AdLib 7 days ago
Harleigh! How have you been, you reprobate? I thought you got swallowed by a Florida sink hole!
KillgoreTrout
Hey Harleigh.
glenn

Harleigh
Ad I caution against hypotheticals.
KillgoreTrout
Ah, so you haven’t been swallowed by a sink hole! That’s good to know!
KillgoreTrout
KT – The Arab Spring was a physical revolution but it wasn’t violent on their part. They went into the streets and acted physically on insisting on change. The goovernment was vioolent but they used their physical protest as a revolution and won…temporarily unfortunately. My point is, we can’t necessarily get substantial change as urgently as it’s needed if we don’t physically protest and pressure government in that way.
AdLib 7 days ago
Semantics Ad.
KillgoreTrout
Hey, fellow Planeteers! Just here for a minute. I seem to have the same cold that Bernie was battling in the debate last night. If he felt the way I do, I have to hand it to him for coming up with the “Henry Kissinger is no friend of mine” line!

True, Ad. Why, oh why did she have to bring that uip?
pinkpantheroz

Only as cleaning personnel, glenn…

Harleigh

I did, Harleigh. And my pneumonia and boogie-woogie flu one too.
kesmarn

PPO–Hillary was trying establish her “national security creds”, I think. But I do think it’s strange that she brought up Kissinger, especially when she does have some more recent experience. Of course, that brings up BENGHAZI!
glenn
That’s what I don’t understand about Hillary. For such a smart, experienced, and strong person, how can she have never heard of Kissinger being a really bad player on the world stage? It really astounds me.
KillgoreTrout
Kes–perhaps. Just think of all the incriminating evidence you could find as a cleaning lady!

glenn

glenn (shudder)!
pinkpantheroz
PPO, it looks as though Hillary will take SC, from what I’m reading.
kesmarn
I think she has a substantial lead there. But she did in Iowa too.
kesmarn
PPO–the donald makes me shudder every time I read about him!
glenn
kes, if she doesn’t, how will that go down? will she still have enough superdelegates to make it meaningless?
pinkpantheroz
Catching up on earlier comments but I think the reason Hillary mentioned Kissinger’s compliment is because she’s trying to position herself as someone who can negotiate with Repubs. But very bad decision to use him to accomplish that goal.
AdLib 7 days ago
kes – I started this part-time job in Nov working for American Greetings. I thought I’d just go into stores and straigthen up the card displays. Wrong. It’s a lot of work. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to do this.
Sabreen60
Hey Sabreen and Murph!
AdLib 7 days ago
I’m not too sure, PPO. I’m hearing that super-delegates can change their commitment, but I don’t know for sure.
kesmarn
Hillary is gong to take SC and most likely NV. Bernie’s big lovers are in the Yankee states…I love the Yankee states, btw. My home away from home is Cape Cod. I lived in Boston for a decade.
KillgoreTrout
Ad, I think she has enough cred in that department without invoking the war criminal. big Mistake IMO
pinkpantheroz
i’m a proud Yankee.
KillgoreTrout

Amazingly, I knew someone who worked for American greeting, Sabreen — quite a while ago — doing the same thing. It was hard work!
kesmarn

Oh, BTW, is Trump saying anything about Carrier sending 2000 jobs to Mexico?
pinkpantheroz
after 6 Bn Profit?
pinkpantheroz
I’m hearing a deafening silence on that one, PPO.
kesmarn
I do agree that Hillary will win SC but I think Bernie will be seen as a winner for narrowing her hard-to-maintain huge margin. It’s not really fair, typically all races narrow that have such a huge margin and Bernie is working it hard in SC to beat expectations. I think he will but still loses to Hillary. Then again, it’s after Nevada and if he dooes well there, he could have more momentum in SC. Still, he won’t win there.
AdLib 7 days ago
Well, I’m not focusing too well tonight; very tired. Plus, soccer season is on again, and I need to get up early tomorrow, so I’m calling it a night. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Feel better, Kes, and try not to work too hard, Sabreen. Take care, all.

kesmarn
PPO – It’s true, Superdelegates can change their allegience at any time and that happened in 2008 when Obama won the majority of primaries. Hillary was trying to win despite that, using Superdelegates but the defections to obama ended that dangerous conflict.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey glenn, sorry I missed you! Take care and be well.
KillgoreTrout
So true, kes.
Sabreen60
I’m pretty irked with her for taking the tack of accusing Bernie of working to undermine the President all along.
kesmarn

KT – Hillary has been a war hawk through much of her career, she threatened to bomb Iran even.
AdLib 7 days ago
Night Kes, feel better!
AdLib 7 days ago
OOps… I think that was glenn who left, AdLib… Although I am fading here…
kesmarn

there hasn’t been a legitimate declaration of war since WWII. We must be really careful of what we call “war.”
KillgoreTrout
Kes – It won’t work, in the focus group, they saw right through that untrue claim.
AdLib 7 days ago
Oh, glad you’re still here Kes!
AdLib 7 days ago
Good to hear that, AdLib!
kesmarn

Some of her ‘tough’ talk has really been kinda weak so she stupidly over did it. LOL
Harleigh

This obviously orchestrated dogpile on Bernie by the Dem Establishment along with Hillary is actually helping Bernie, on fundraising and support. It’s transparent, they can’t beat Bernie by attacking him as an outsider, that’s his appeal.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hilllary never suggested sending ground troops into Syria.
KillgoreTrout
Well folks I’m all end. Take care until the next time.
Sabreen60
We don’t need to “win,” in the sense that war is some sort of game. It’s not.
KillgoreTrout
All too short, Sabreen. Pity. but good to see you
pinkpantheroz
Take care Sabreen. I hope all is well with you and yours.
KillgoreTrout

It was the no fly zone she was advocating, Homie. You’re right I don’t think she suggested troops.
kesmarn
G’night, Sabreen!
kesmarn
“In” heh gotta go
Sabreen60
Kes – Good point, Hillary wants a no-fly zone and arming more and more groups opposing Assad…but peace and negotiations may win out. She certainly isn’t supportive of Obama’s views on Syria.
AdLib 7 days ago
I don’t even think a no fly zone is necessarily a bad thing. Boundries, at times, must be established.
KillgoreTrout
I like the way Russia is abiding by the Ceasefire, Ad!
pinkpantheroz
No– they’ve not agreed on Syria. But when Bernie disagrees, he’s a bad man.
kesmarn
KT – But ISIS doesn’t have an airforce. Who would we shoot down except Russia or their ally, Syria? Then what? WWIII?
AdLib 7 days ago
The only thing is, Homie, you have to be prepared to shoot planes down. And then the consequences…
kesmarn
KT after and since Benghazi! she tried to sound tough by sayin stupid shit like bombing some of the countries that repub chickenhawks want to bomb.she of all people should know that we would lose way too much libya, ukraine, iran, N korea. crazy talk.

Anybody who would honestly think Berne is a bad man, is truly delusional.
KillgoreTrout

KillgoreTrout

PPO – Putin is a liar and he doesn’t want peace, he wants the Assad armies to win the war but by bringing nations together to get behind a cease fire, Russia is putting more pressure on itself to stop…or maybe face more sanctions?
AdLib 7 days ago

AdLib 7 days ago
From Boeing and Halliburton.
kesmarn

Harleigh

They usually start that bullshit by August.
KillgoreTrout

kesmarn
kes…. as is Benghazi and all the other shit they’ve been throwing, but it won’t stop them doing it.
pinkpantheroz
Harleigh – Agreed, I don’t believe there is anything negative in Hillary’s emails but it seems like some in the FBI or Pentagon are trying to damage her.
AdLib 7 days ago
Ad, would anyone be surprised that the Pentagon doing that?
pinkpantheroz
Right, PPO. Now the Clinton Foundation and some of their activities… I’m not so sure that’s all been above reproach.
kesmarn
Ad I didn’t qualify exactly what could be seen as weakness. You could substitute a number of scenariors for such an arument. That fact is, we cannot be seen, by those who are against us, as being weak, soft, complacent, or otherwise.
KillgoreTrout
Kes it’s one of the staples at the Hill and Newsmax, where I go to let off steam by poking the shit out of teabaggers. LOL
Harleigh

The email thing, Harl? Wow… they need to give it up! 🙂
kesmarn

Rubio is still playing his recording about Benghazi. That’s why he claims she’s not eligible to be President. How about having an MP3 player where your brain is supposed to be, Marco? Doesn’t that disqualify you?
AdLib 7 days ago
If my neighbor, who is threatening me, sees me as being weak, then he’s liable to do do something that would not turn out good, for either of us.

pinkpantheroz

If that neighbor sees me as someone not to be messed with, then it’s very likely that peace will prevail.
KillgoreTrout
PPO – There should be an investigation into the Pentagon and FBI on this and anyone leaking about the emails should be prosecuted. This is illegal interference with a US election.
AdLib 7 days ago
Let me tell you another funny… now they are back with a committee on the IRS yet some more!! LOL
Harleigh

You lost me on that one, PPO.
KillgoreTrout

pinkpantheroz

KillgoreTrout

The world understnads strength. Is that “enlightened?” Of course not. That is just the way the world is. Always has been.
KillgoreTrout
Harleigh – What a surprise, the Repubs in The House attacking Hillary for Benghazi for years, Planned Parenthood based on bogus videos and now the IRS based on bogus charges of attacking Repub groups. Not one legit investigation over all these years until the Flint hearings began…but have been sabotaged a bit by Repubs whoo wouldn’t call Snyder or the city managers.
AdLib 7 days ago

Don’t forget it was sanctions that brought Iran kicking and screaming to the negotiating table. Sanctions can be an effective weapon. the alternatives are scary.
pinkpantheroz

Hey, long time no see Fergie1!
pinkpantheroz

Ad, because we have such destructive military power, and NATO. Is Russia going to go nuclear? Of corse not. They and we have been through that nonsense already.
KillgoreTrout
PPO – We haven’t removed the sanctions on Russia so they can’t be reimposed.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey Fergie!
AdLib 7 days ago

How do you like Trump promising now to be PC and not swear anymoore because it’s hurting him in the polls?
AdLib 7 days ago
America, in combination with a few other nations, has realized that world wars are not any sort of solution to the world’s problems. We will be cursed with little, regional, “conflicts.” As we have been for the last decade or more.

KT – It will be interesting to see what Climate Change brings aboout, as nations start losing potable water and fertile farmlands. Might an era of nations invading other nations come about?
AdLib 7 days ago
fuck Trump. He is in no way, going to rise to the level of a presidential nominee. if he does, he’ll never win a general election. Should we ignore him? Absolutely not, but let’s not give him any more time in the American consciuosness.
KillgoreTrout

Agreed, PPO. Trump is addicted to profanity, he’ll fall off the wagon any minute!

Fergie – If he wins the GOP nom, Trump will really get burned.

Fergie – I remember all those types of threats from Hillary PUMAs back in 2008, if Obama won they would vote for McCain. That childish “holding my breath till I turn blue if I don’t get my way” didn’t work out too well.
AdLib 7 days ago
Fegie, I utterly despair sometimes about Democrats not being able to combine in a united fashion.
pinkpantheroz
I think that Trump is more slippery than many are giving him credit for. Who would have thought that he would get this far?
Fergie1
Fergie – Always remember, Trump has maybe 35% of the GOP, meaning 65% aren’t behind him and the GOP only has about 24% of voters in the nation so he’s only got around 9% of Americans behind him.
AdLib 7 days ago

PPO – But that is a small minority of voters. Keep in mind, Trump polls negative with 40% of Repubs! Much higher with indies so in a real open election, the chickens all come home to roost for him.
AdLib 7 days ago
Ad, I’m interested in this figure of 24% GOP voters. I haven’t done my ‘homework’ on those stats. But how in the world does any Repub get elected then?
Fergie1
Fergie, even thoough I support Bernie in the primary, I have no patience for any Bernie supporters who claim they won’t vote for Hillary if she wins. They want Trump instead?
AdLib 7 days ago
Ad, yes, but as the field narrows, the sheep who are agin’ him now will follow the bellwether and meekly trot into the slaughterhouse.
pinkpantheroz
Indeed PPO. But think of all the Progressive groups that will come out big time against Trump too.
AdLib 7 days ago
Oh, let it be so, Ad.
pinkpantheroz
Fergie, I think Dems only have about 32% of voters, a near-majority are unaffiliated Indies.
AdLib 7 days ago
Well, I have to go do the shopping, so better say cheerio till next time. Nice seeing you again fergie. take care, Ad.
pinkpantheroz
PPO – Some Repubs may but consider why the GOP is so desperate to find a single estab Repub to get behind. They know that Trump and Cruz will spell disaster foor their entire party all up and down the ballot. If they thought Trump being their nom would help their party, they wouldn’t be battling him.

Politically in Australia, it’s boring as all get out. Of course we have a conservative PM who wants to privatize Medicare, who continues to detain boat people on Narau, etc.etc. etc. and who is floating the notion of raising the GST ( VAT) to 15 %. Other than that……..?
Fergie1

That it is B. But, do you know what I have found, in my own life? I have found a way of viewing the world and my place in it, that has really brought me a great contentment. People always say they’re looking for happiness in their lives. As well they should, but they usually look in the wrong places. I don’t believe in a constant state of happiness. (you know what I mean). I am am thrilled, by being able to maintain a constant level of “contentment.” I realize that things change. they always will, abd nothing is permanent.

I think my dad instilled that in me, and not always intentionally. He told me, before I was shipped off to Marine Corp boot camp, that I’d never make it. He said I was too weak. That pissed me off, to no end. That was the driving force behind my every effort to prove him wrong. And I did. Later, I realized what my dad had done for me. He knew that if he told me I’d fail, I would do everything inmy entire being, to prove him wrond.
