In about forty days, we will again vote to elect a president. For the third time, Donald John Trump will be running, but this election will be markedly different.
First, Trump will be a convicted felon as he was found guilty on thirty-four felony counts of falsifying business records in hush money trial for paying off a porn star. He is due to be sentenced before the election.
Second, he will not be running against the incumbent President Joe Biden, as he has decided not to run for reelection. His Vice President Kamala Harris will become the official candidate once she is formally nominated at the Democratic Convention later this month.
Third, the election between Harris and Trump will decide whether to keep our republic or move to an authoritative state.
Fourth, this is not about Republicans vs. Democrats. It is about MAGA (Make America Great Again) vs. Democrats.
The Republican Party, the party of Lincoln that believed in the preservation of the Union, died the day Trump came down the escalator and announced his candidacy in 2016.
Trump is using the once revered party of Lincoln as a prop to cover his dictatorial desires and overall goals. Those who are managing his campaign could care less about the republican principles.
For Trump and those who follow him, it is about greed. He made it okay to talk about greed and to be greedy.
Those individuals who still believe in the principles that defined the Republican party have disassociated themselves from Trump’s MAGAs, declaring themselves independents or have switched to the Democratic party or one of the third-party candidates.
Others who are Republican would leave the selection for president blank but vote for the down-ballot Republicans who support Trump and implement his programs if he were to win.
They will not cast a vote for Trump to be President but will vote for their Republican Senators and Congressional Reps who would support Trump and his policies if he were to win.
How is that not voting for Trump if they vote for those who will implement Trump’s agenda?
We know the answer. But bear with me for just a moment.
Our governance could be better, but compared to some others, we are in decent shape.
We are a free country and have the right to protest our government if the caretakers we elect to manage it are not doing a decent job.
We have elections that are fair and honest despite what Trump and his supporters claim.
Trump lost the last election. He knows it, and he has even admitted it. But it is because he lost that he is lying about it.
Trump is nothing more than a seventy-eight grown-up brat who believes because he is rich, he is supposed to win at everything.
Trump is a man who has committed adultery multiple times. He has refused to honor legitimate contracts he entered.
Trump will sue someone at the drop of a hat. He attempted to cheat his sibling out of their rightful inheritance; their father left all of them because he was deep in debt.
Look, not all the men who occupied the Oval Office were saints. We are not looking for a saint to be the President of the United States. Nor are we looking for a congenital liar, which Trump is, either.
We have the right to expect the individual sitting in the office behind the Resolute Desk to have more than a modicum of discretion and decency, spell the words truth and honor, and show they know and understand what they mean.
I am sorry, but Donald J. Trump cannot do these things. What is worse, he does not want to do them because, from his point of view, they are not things that a “strong man does.”
It may not be what a strong man does. But it is sure in hell what a strong leader does.
A leader looks out for others and puts their needs above their own.
A leader is someone who, when faced with adversity, will develop a plan to deal with it to the best of their ability.
A leader promises to do everything they can to deliver, and when they fall short, they accept the fact they overcommitted and do not look for someone to blame.
Leaders work constantly to better themselves, learn new things, and challenge themselves.
Donald John Trump is no leader; he is a taker and a moocher. He will take credit for things he never did, and what is so wrong about this is that he has no shame in doing it.
People know this about Trump because some would welcome him back to be the leader of this country with open arms.
How has this happened? How is it that citizens of this country would willingly desire to see him back in the Presidency?
I understand why Musk, Theil, the Mercers, and Kochs want him back. It is a simple word: greed.
These individuals want to be corporate oligarchs and control the country’s resources to enrich themselves off the backs of their employees, whom they will pay a pittance for their work.
I understand governors such as Ron DeSantis, Sarah Huckabee, Jeff Landry, and Gregg Abbott want Trump back because they want to take the federal funding for public schools and give to their private schools and bring back separate but equal in their education systems.
I understand why Republicans in the House and Senate want him back because they, too, want to send the country back to the time when there was no-fault divorce.
Abortion was illegal, racism was the law of the land, and brought back mandatory school prayer.
And will do their darndest to force what passes for Christian values in the Trump MAGA world down people’s throats.
I have one question. Wait, that is not true. I have several questions, but I will ask one.
Let me start by saying that many Trump supporters want him back because they believe that, with him in office, Christian values will be brought back to the forefront.
It seems, for some reason, those Republicans who are advocating for this seem to think the country has lost its way.
So, will they start with Trump, and how will they get him to demonstrate those values?
