In a rather odd corner of philosophy lives a strange creature of the mind. We call him, "the Ghost Within the Machine." The idea has been around for ages (since Descartes), and in many different forms. Now, we usually use the words to refer to how computers seem to sometimes do unexpected things, that the designers and planners, or users, never imagined.

Has American politics jumped the shark? Should it be cancelled and replaced with another reality show? Perhaps a spinoff about the Republican-controlled House that is committed to doing nothing to help Americans, maybe titled, "American Idle"?

Nominating and electing a 77 year old man who will be 81 years old when it's time for re-election is not long term thinking. In 2024, Republicans will have the anti-incumbent momentum and likely, a younger and more energetic candidate. As bad as things are now, they could be even worse under a Repub (Don Jr. or Ivanka?) in 2025.

When someone is shooting a lot of arrows at you, don't try to catch each arrow, take his bow away. In the next debate, Obama should attack Romney as untrustworthy and use each question or response to drive that point home. It won't matter what lies Romney tells if he's not believed.

For those who believe in American Exceptionalism and in America as being the world's greatest democracy, how can that be the case when so many other countries have greater democratic participation than America?

Too many Americans have become "dumb" voters, they vote on little more than emotion. They feel upset at DC so they knee jerk vote for the party that doesn't control the White House...even though it is the party they're voting for that has caused the problems that led to their being upset.
