Superdelegates were added to Democratic primaries after non-establishment candidates George McGovern and Jimmy Carter beat out establishment candidates in 1972 and 1976. It was and is a ploy to allow Democrat elites to overrule Dem voters.
Republicans have been lobbying Trump to change his campaign persona into a "more presidential" one, to go by a script and stop saying incendiary things.
