How can anyone justify these Corporations being tax exempt?

The NFL has paid zero taxes since 1966. “Since 1966, the tax code has allowed leagues to classify as 501(c)(6) charitable organizations—a classification used by trade and industry organizations—under the assumption that the leagues were promoting the general value of their sports. But Coburn’s amendment asserts that the leagues … are businesses interested solely in the promotion of their business; that is, the NFL isn’t so much concerned about promoting the general sport of football as it is concerned with promoting NFL football, because it is the NFL brand and the NFL teams and logos and products that make it a profitable business. The NFL, for instance, didn’t seem interested in promoting the general spread of football when a competitor league, the United States Football League, was formed in 1983.”  The NFL has successfully rid itself of  competition.

I for one, would love to see this “corporate welfare” ended. The practice of not taxing corporations is wrong. They make billions and pay nothing in taxes? How is that fair to the fans or the citizens who do not pay attention to football? We all know that the fans who pay for the tickets to the games would be paying the taxes if they were taxed.

Corporate welfare is wrong. Let your Senator and Congressman/woman know that you are fed up with corporate welfare!

Excellent question SearingTruth. I believe it would have to be working people, since all people rich or poor have to work. As far back in history as one cares to go there have always been those who were more wealthy than others usually because of their strength or intelligence.

People who were stronger were able to accumulate more, those who were stronger and intelligent were able to capitalize on what they accumulated by accessing the labor of others to help them keep what they had. The stronger more intelligent used others as soldiers or laborers in the field or for whatever task needed to be done, those that became the workers did so for several reasons, but mostly to continue to sustain themselves and their families.

So did working people come first or did rich masters come first? I believe everyone came at the same time and in the beginning all labored to sustain themselves. I believe the divisions came later as working people realized their strengths, so using the power of deduction I would have to conclude, Working People Came First. 🙂

Well spoken gentle friend monicaangela.

The only thing I would add is that most “rich” people initially gained power and wealth by violence, and that later morphed into both violence and corruption.

Excellent article Nirek!!

Sorry it has taken me a while to comment on what you have written here. I have been dealing with a few family issues lately, and my reply to comments emails have stopped coming again.

I agree wholeheartedly with you regarding the NFL and corporate welfare. Corporate welfare for this entity should stop and for every other corporation. I recently watched a video interview on this topic with Ralph Nadar, I am going to place it here for you to view:

And then there is this:

Nirek, excellent point. Here’s my problem with tax preference status for corporations and certain “elite” persons, every dollar that they are sitting on requires the Fed to print a replacement dollar. In order to have a functioning economy, money needs to circulate. Whenever there are persons or entities that can accumulate more money than they can ever spend in several generations, that money needs to be replaced by the Fed. Which is why they have been printing like crazy.

The NFL is not the only entity that has been taking the citizenry for a ride. Time to stop the gravy train on all tax preference status entities and bring them back to earth. This exemption has fed their egos for far too long, look where it has led them to…

I completely agree to an end to Corporate Welfare. Any corporate assistance that continues should be as restrictive as the welfare we provide for individuals, which is nowhere near as easy to get as conservatives seem to think it is.
