Cruz’s senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled “Clipping the Wings of Angels,” draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.” Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and the last two items in the Bill of Rights offered an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: “They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers.”[31][36]

After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor.[2][37] While at Harvard Law, Cruz was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.[7] Referring to Cruz’s time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, “Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant.”[19][38][39][40][41][42] At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Either there is something really, really wrong with the higher education facilities in this country or Cruz is a total fake. You can choose which you would believe. I can’t understand why you took the time to interview someone who even at a glance from a distance is an obvious phony. 😉

I loved this article AdLib, it is exactly what should be written in opinion pages of the best newspapers in this nation, every blog, news site etc., on the web, should have this article written by you, it exposes Cruz for exactly what he is, someone who would lie, cheat, steal, and do anything in his power to try to confuse those who have not had the opportunity to get the education he has gotten.

Helping others allows an individual to use his/her talents and skills to assist someone who is in need. When you use your talents and time to help others, you have done your part to make the world a better place.

Republicans and Democrats have used accounting gimmicks and competing government analyses to deceive the public into believing that 2 + 2 = 6. If our leaders cannot agree on the numbers, if ‘facts’ are fictional, how can they possibly have a substantive debate on solutions?

I am of this opinion: If the citizens of this nation because of petty differences choose to continue to allow Flim Flam men like Ted Cruz to deceive them, if they continue to vote them into office over one petty issue or another, then they deserve what they get, and in that case IMHO it doesn’t matter whether 2+2=4,6,or8, they will be allowing someone else to do their thinking for them so whatever that person decides will be good enough for them. I feel sorry for the people of this nation who have managed to muck up what could have been a great democracy, an example for all the world….It’s really sad.

Ad, I thought this was really well done. What’s interesting is that I grew more uncomfortable as I read further. I can totally see this conversation happening with people I know! While this was very funny (one of your best) it was also very real.

hey Ad Lib…IF you and I were going to talk about math…I am afraid I could imitate Ted Cruzes answers…..As a former ballerina and a classical pianist, I can’t be bothered wiith math….:)My mother had a PhD in math and was a college Professor, which, I believe, gave her overwhelmed menstrual cramps when she learned the fact I could not deal with numbers……they were so cold…all I could ask was: (AND I AM BEING TOTALLY HONEST HERE:she would say: ” 2 + 2 equals 4…Period” And I would argue WHY???????LOLOLOLOL Missing her so much.She has passed not even three years ago, sharp and alert….But fast…..Peace to all.XX

TED CRUZ’S FATHER FOUGHT WITH FIDEL. WAIT, WHAT?

I agree that wingnut demigod Ted Cruz is being hypocritical in this defense of his hard-line immigration stance, but the thing that really sticks out for me is the fact that his father fought with Fidel Castro. Um, isn’t being the fruit of a lefty revolutionary’s loins supposed to put a politician under a permanent cloud of suspicion, according to wingnuts? Or is that true only if the pol is named Obama?

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) says that comprehensive immigration reform is “incredibly unfair to those who follow the rules,” even though his father admits that he was forced to use bribes to immigrate from Cuba.

In an interview aired by NPR on Thursday, Cruz held up his father, 74-year-old Rafael Bienvenido Cruz, as an example of why it was wrong to offer a path to citizenship to the millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States illegally.

“I came to this country legally,” Rafael Cruz told NPR…..

The older Cruz explained that he had once fought with Fidel Castro’s forces in Cuba to overthrow Fulgencio Batista, a U.S.-backed dictator. He later fled to the United States after receiving a four-year student visa to study at the University of Texas.

“Then the only other thing that I needed was an exit permit from the Batista government,” Rafael Cruz said. “A friend of the family, a lawyer friend of my father, basically bribed a Batista official to stamp my passport with an exit permit.” …

So Rafael Cruz fought with Castro and bribed the anti-communist government that opposed Castro. Anything else?

After his student visa expired, Rafael Cruz obtained political asylum in the U.S. He then found work with the oil industry in Canada, where Ted Cruz was born.

Rafael Cruz became a Canadian citizen while in Canada. While his son was serving as solicitor general of Texas in 2005, Rafael Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship and became and American citizen.

So Ted Cruz wasn’t born here and his father — who, unlike Obama’s father, was an actual presence in his son’s life — fought with a commie, bribed his way to America, and has pledged loyalty to three countries in his lifetime. I know Canada ain’t Kenya or Indonesia, but can you imagine if this were Obama’s origin story?

In a sermon last year at an Irving, Texas, megachurch that helped elect Ted Cruz to the United States Senate, Cruz’ father Rafael Cruz indicated that his son was among the evangelical Christians who are anointed as “kings” to take control of all sectors of society, an agenda commonly referred to as the “Seven Mountains” mandate, and “bring the spoils of war to the priests”, thus helping to bring about a prophesied “great transfer of wealth”, from the “wicked” to righteous gentile believers. link to video of Rafael Cruz describing the “great transfer of wealth” and the role of anointed “kings” in various sectors of society, including government, who are to “bring the spoils of war to the priests”.

Rafael Cruz’ dominionist sermon given August 26, 2012, at the New Beginnings Church of pastor Larry Huch, in Irving, Texas has already received considerable scrutiny due to an excellent Huffington Post commentary by Methodist Associate Pastor Morgan Guyton, who noted the explicitly dominionist nature of pastor Cruz’ sermon, which concerned the divine mandate for believers, with anointing of “kings” in their respective spheres, to take control over all sectors of society.

Cruz spoke of “Kings who are anointed to go to war, win the war, and bring the spoils of war to the priests.”

Discussion of the now-notorious speech by Rafael Cruz has missed the fact that Ted Cruz was subsequently blessed and anointed by prominent dominionist pastors, in effect as a “king” in the political/governmental sphere, at a special blessing ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, at a July 19th-20th 2013 rally designed to draw pastors into politics.

But in a very real, mundane sense Ted Cruz has already helped deliver hundreds of millions of dollars, or more, to the evangelical right. Cruz’ past service – as a “king” who brought “spoils to the priests” – is a matter of established record; as I revealed in a prior story, no less than a top adviser to President George W. Bush has stated that in 1999 Ted Cruz played a major role in helping the Bush for President campaign lock down the conservative evangelical vote in the 2000 election.

One can interpret the “great transfer of wealth” — predicted by Ted Cruz’ father Rafael Cruz, and by Pastor Larry Huch, who threw his Texas megachurch’s considerable heft behind the 2012 Cruz for Senate campaign — in magical terms, sure.

But Ted Cruz’ apparently notable role in getting George W. Bush into the presidency led in turn to Bush’s “Faith Based Initiative” – that continues to this day under two successive Obama administrations and which, during the Bush years, funneled billions of dollars to churches and institutions associated with the religious right.

In other words, the “great transfer of wealth” is about more than wishful thinking. It’s about an ongoing effort, by leaders and institutions of the evangelical right, to gradually gobble up the secular sphere of government.

Thus, for example, fast growing Christian schools such as the late Moral Majority co-founder Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, which now vacuums up hundreds of millions of dollars in federal student aid money each year. Or the hundreds of millions of diverted tax dollars now flowing, in a least 12 U.S. states, under so-called “neo-voucher” schemes, to private schools – many of which, as explored in a new Rolling Stone story, have virulently anti-LGBT policies. Under Bush, too, several billion dollars per year in USAID funding were shifted from secular aid nonprofits to religious ones, some them holding anti-gay and reactionary, even theocratic, underlying ideology.

Fascinating interview,AdLib. Made me dizzy but confirmed once and for all that we need Common Core and need it NOW!!

Hey Ad, that’s quite a coup getting Ted Cruz to do an interview. So he doesn’t believe in facts, math, science, or history (thought I’d add that in).
His party seems to believe in their own lies. From having no minimum wage to tax cuts for the rich they are consistently on the wrong side of things.

Maybe you could get some other GOtP big shots to do interviews.
