• AdLib : I agree, Beatlex. I think Repubs hold the House but not a lot of gains and Dems keep The Senate.

  • Beatlex : AdLib,the maddening thing is that despite their obvious ineptness, the R’s will likely hang onto the house and have a chance to take over the Senate.Which personally I doubt, what do you think?

  • AdLib : Wow, thanks for all the wonderfully kind words. The feeling is mutual, I’m always trying to write up to my friends here.

  • Fergie1 : Ad, you’re a hoot as well as being clever, witty, erudite and right on! Good afternoon from me and Bon Nuit to you.

  • AdLib : Beatlex – Yep, those Repubs sure wet themselves a lot over all kinds of paranoid stuff.

  • AdLib : Same here, Fergie, enjoyed it! Take care!

  • Beatlex : LOL AdLib! Adult diapers indeed, they better be extra absorbent

  • Fergie1 : Ad, yes, that’s about it from here also. Take good care and have a great weekend. Thank you for the chat and the welcome. :)

  • AdLib : Rand and Rupert, that sounds like a bad comedy team or the manufacturers of faulty adult diapers.

  • Fergie1 : Adlib, agreed. It’s pretty much the same in most countries. I see that Rand Paul is trying to team up with that scumbag Murdoch. Pauls’s run for the Presidency! Oh please run Rand – another looney tune.

  • AdLib : Well Fergie, looks like it’s time to close the Vox Shop for the night. Lots of fun and great chats tonight. Have a great weekend!

  • AdLib : Yep Fergie, sad that we have such a lame media that doesn’t barbecue the GOP for its transparent dishonesty.

  • AdLib : Take care ppo, have a great weekend!

  • Fergie1 : Adlib, what can I say but YEP! 150% correct. Sad.

  • AdLib : And what is the worst possible crime that Repubs could possibly find that was committed by Obama on Benghazi? He politicized it! Er…my irony meter just exploded.

  • pinkpantheroz : AdLib, Fergie, thankx for the laughs and see you all here next week, and probably elsewhere before then. Tale Care, everybody.

  • AdLib : Fergie – It’s an old and tested game plan by the Repubs. Distract from what really matters because America opposes them on all that and focus on BS scandals and outrages like the ACA Death Panels and Benghazi.

  • Fergie1 : Adlib and PPO

  • Fergie1 : PPO, you’ve got that take on the state of play down perfectly. Deflect from the issues that are deeply eroding America – no matter the cost.

  • AdLib : ppo – That’s right, no fuckin’ cursing around here.

  • AdLib : ppo – It’s gotten so absurd now, the extents the Repubs go to now to try and win elections because they don’t appeal to a majority based upon their positions on issues.

  • pinkpantheroz : Please excuse my profanity. Won’t happen again.

  • pinkpantheroz : Let me get this right. The US has: potholes the size of buses, bridges falling down, trains carrying toxic shit derailing, families who cannot live on welfare, Military who can’t live on their pay, huge corruption and insider dealing and trading everywhere, and all the GOP can say is ‘BENGHA-fucking -ZI’? Sure looks like it from here.

  • AdLib : The GOP is really falling apart emotionally, Lindsay Graham is coming off as frantic and crazed.

  • pinkpantheroz : good night, choice, and enjoy your NAG-free Weekend!

  • AdLib : I would like to see the families of Benghazi victims go public in a press conference just to condemn the politicizing and exploitation of their lost ones.

  • AdLib : Thanks CL! When this period is over, we’ve got some HOPE to catch up on!

  • choicelady : Thank you, AdLib – hope to be here longer next Friday! Be well and YOU get rest, too.

  • AdLib : Night CL! Get some rest, you deserve it!

  • AdLib : Night glenn! So glad you’re back on the Vox!

  • Fergie1 : To all those here heading off, take care, have a fab. weekend. Bye :)

  • AdLib : Night KT! See you over the weekend on the music thread!

  • choicelady : Well everyone – I’m heading out, too. Have had a hellacious week though often a good one, and we’re heading to northern beachside places for three days of relaxation. I hope everyone has a good weekend and week to come. Good night!

  • glenn : Thanks all, hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • choicelady : glenn – good night! Good to see you – I’m hot on your heels out the door. We’re heading up the coast tomorrow for three days of NO BODY NAGGING US! Can’t wait! Have an excellent weekend!

  • pinkpantheroz : Sleep wee, KT and glenn, ( of course, not together, but now…..) :)

  • Beatlex : Glenn,Thx,and you have a good night too!

  • Fergie1 : Geln, could not agree more. That is exactly right. Of course the GOP don’t care about the feelings of the familes, they just want to try and use every trick in the book to stir and deflect from their lack of action while getting paid for the past 6 or so years. A total disgrace.

  • glenn : And, folks, I’m right behind KT. Just a quick shout-out to Beatlex to say “hi” and “bye” in the same post. And, I will be definitely be voting.

  • choicelady : Good night, KT – take care. Hope Spring is a permanent thing there on the Cape! Tell your Mom we all say HI.

  • Beatlex : AdLib,exactly.I don’t think they even know what they are looking for.It shows how desperate they are really. This is all they have?? Bring it!

  • choicelady : glenn – mine, too, but… I give Hillary kudos for sticking with Bill when she wanted to kill him.

  • glenn : G’night KT. Take care.

  • choicelady : glenn – I just went over to Benghazi Watchdog – still there, still raising money!

  • glenn : CL–I’m with you. I’d have drawn and quartered the guy. And, my husband was the love of my life.

  • Fergie1 : Hi CL. That’s good to know as well about Glenn Doherty’s family. Graham should be ashamed of himself, but these GOPers never are.

  • KillgoreTrout : Well good people, I just stopped in, but gotta go, little time left fore the morning sun. This weekend, with music, well have some fun!

  • AdLib : Isn’t it also telling that the Repubs DON’T CARE about investigating and capturing those who actually killed Americans in Benghazi? How can they really care when they don’t care about catching the killers?

  • glenn : Fergie–I saw that story about the ambassador’s family asking that the repubs stop with the nonsense, already. I saw it on that website that will not be mentioned. It says that Pelosi says she heard from 2 of the 4 families, but she didn’t mention names. I’m glad to hear the families are speaking up and saying, “enough, already.” As the repubs keep asking, “Don’t you care about those 4 dead Americans?” If they cared about them, they’d stop bringing up the incident over and over. And, they’d stop fundraising “over their bodies.” Does anybody know–did the RCC take down that “Benghazi Watchdog” fundraising site yet?

  • Beatlex : Hi Everyone! The R’s are looking really pathetic.I love it.Lynn Cheeeny?? Who listens to that old bag anyway

  • choicelady : Fergie – Glenn Doherty, a colleague of mine, was also killed there, and his family feels the same as Stevens’father.

  • Fergie1 : *contempt

  • KillgoreTrout : What’s up Beatlex?

  • AdLib : Hey Beatlex!

  • Fergie1 : Jan Stevens, the father of Christopher Stevens said that it would be abhorrent to play politics with his sons death. And yet Lindsay Graham continues to use the familes of those killed as a reason to politicize what happened. He is beyond comtempt.

  • AdLib : ppo – Love “Gone Troppo”!

  • choicelady : Beatlex! Hi and thank you, yes VOTE.

  • choicelady : glenn – it’s supposed to make Hillary and Obama look incompetent. Now I will take a look at her refusal to list Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. However, her rationale actually made certain sense, tho damned if I remember why. But she might have had quicker international reaction to the kidnap had she been willing to follow advice from very many quarters.

  • Beatlex : So the R’s seem to be putting all their eggs in the BENGHAZI! Basket. They are in sad shape, for them.Sane people rejoice! And GET OUT TO VOTE MY AMERICAN FRIENDS!!

  • AdLib : glenn – Repubs are having this new Benghazi committee because they want to get to the bottom of it. “It” meaning approval polls and decency.

  • KillgoreTrout : I agree CL. Some say love has no bounds. I’m not sure about that, for everyone.

  • choicelady : PPO – I like that expression. Conjures up sweaty dementia.

  • glenn : Ad–I know that’s where the outrage rests. But, why are they outraged over that? That’s what I can’t understand! As Hillary said, “what difference does it make?” Will it bring those four dead Americans back? Will it stop future terrorist attacks if we call them terrorists? I just don’t get it.

  • choicelady : AdLib – how anyone could think Hillary would want to hear from Monica again… OMG that’s so Cheney-ish.

  • pinkpantheroz : Ad, you’re right. Cheney’s ‘gone troppo’ if HRC would have any interest in dredging up that whole sorry affair again. ( Gone Troppo, btw is an old aussie expression for getting Tropical Fever)

  • KillgoreTrout : glenn, I hope I’m not “misunderestima ting.”

  • AdLib : PPO – Happy to send the Daily Show a link to the Benghazi post, thanks!

  • choicelady : glenn – it’s spreading throughout the South and is bringing some fairly conservative people together with liberals around these justice issues. VERY cool!

  • choicelady : KT – there are friends of mine who’ve stayed together when had it been me, I’d have drawn and quartered the guy. Love knows its own heart. It’s not for us to determine what to do.

  • KillgoreTrout : Exactly glenn.

  • AdLib : How about the Lynne Cheney “theory” that Hillary was behind Lewinsky resurfacing? Repubs are clinically paranoid and insane.

  • glenn : CL–I know, isn’t it great to see Moral Mondays in a red state?

  • choicelady : glenn – there was a talking points email – it had to do with issues in general NOT just Benghazi – that they now claim is a smoking gun, but it was written DAYS after the incident and is from the communications people NOT policy people. Upon this their entire outrage rests. I am NOT making that up.

  • glenn : KT–I hope you’re not underestimating the American voter, either. I truly think the American people are not that stupid; it’s trying to make those same, sane American people into American voters.

  • pinkpantheroz : Hey, Ad, how about contacting Jon Stewart and feed him the Benghazi ridicule story. I’d love to see that, but I can’t because it’s embargoed here, and I WONT instal cable.

  • KillgoreTrout : I think Hillary made the right choice. She really made the best of a bad situation.

  • choicelady : Fergie – Glenn Doherty was a colleague, and I know his family feels the same way as Stevens’ family. Despicable use of lives for political gain.

  • glenn : Ad–Well, I’m still trying to figure out what these hearings are getting to the “bottom of”. Is it because President Obama called the attack an “act of terror” rather than “terrorists attacking”? Is it because the repubs didn’t like the talking points? Is it because ??? What, exactly, are these hearings supposed to “prove”?

  • choicelady : PPO – That’s IT – refudiate! Thank you. Any more Bushism and I won’t be able to talk at all.

  • choicelady : glenn – I have no interest, one way or the other, about whether Hillary stays with Bill. Even in infidelity there can be love, and if she cares about him and he cares about her, then fine. Not our call. I’m just well and truly tired of the story.

  • AdLib : CL – However, the more we help to make the term “Benghazi” mean “Ridiculous”, they lose.

  • Fergie1 : Benghazi! Lindsay Graham is not respecting the wishes of Ambassador Stevens mother or father. Mary Commaday, the mother of slain U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, dismissed the politicization of her son’s death during the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya. In her own words: How can anyone place blame for his death — these were circumstances beyond our government’s control,” Commaday told NBC Bay Area. “I am perfectly aware that there was danger. But he was a grown man, well-educated and careful. I knew he was out there doing good work.” “I don’t think it is productive to lay blame on people,” Commaday said.

  • pinkpantheroz : Choice, surely you mean ‘refudiate’ Benghazi???

  • choicelady : glenn – I’m fine. How are YOU? Saw Georgia is adopting some “Moral Mondays” demonstrations. Must be exciting to see people come alive around justice issues!

  • glenn : Hi Fergie!

  • choicelady : All – every time I get worried about something, I remember who it is that is pressing the ‘investigation ‘ of (fill in the blank). They are so craven! Now they’re fund raising off Benghazi to the point idiotic “stay on message” parroting from Boehner about the fundraising v the actual incident just sounds like “Polly want a cracker squawk

  • glenn : Hey CL–Benghazi right back atcha! How are you?

  • glenn : PPO–LOL! Sheeee’s baaaack! That was another “issue” I don’t get. Who cares how many bj’s Clinton had? I lost a lot of respect for Hillary for staying with him, and still have no respect for her regarding that. That is why I have mixed feelings about her if she is the Dem candidate in 2016. However, at the risk of sounding like a rwnj, she has to be heads and shoulders above any repub candidate.

  • AdLib : ppo – We can reverse the gerrymandering.. .but not until 2020. Between now and then, Dems need to take over those states so terribly gerrymandered.

  • KillgoreTrout : glenn, I don’t think they are anywhere near the majority of voters though. I hope I am not underestimating the intelligence of the American people in general.

  • choicelady : AdLib – I think if KT is correct, we need to repudiate BENGHAZI as a greeting if it means “I hate that Black Man in the White House” since, of course, we don’t.

  • AdLib : Hi Fergie!!! Glad you made it!

  • AdLib : Hey CL! A Good Benghazi to you too!

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey Fergie. Good to see ya.!

  • choicelady : Hi Fergie – I just got here, too, and there is NO time difference for me. Glad to see you!

  • AdLib : glenn – Yes, I saw that conversation, though you all really cut to the reality behind the fraud that is the Benghazi Fraudulent Scandal Industry. There is zero honesty or genuine principles here. As others have pointed out, a serious House investigation is typically chaired by a serious, respected and long term Congressperson. They’ve tossed a 2 term Bagger at the helm, how can this be serious and how can it not be a political campaign?

  • pinkpantheroz : And a bright BENGHAZI to you, choice, and Hi, Fergie. Most welcome both.

  • choicelady : KT – Ooops. I bet you’re right that’s what it REALLY means!

  • glenn : KT–The problem is not that 20%, but those fanatical, brainwashed idiots who show up at the polls and who will vote for any republican, no matter how repulsive s/he is. Those are the ones I worry about.

  • choicelady : Hi PPO – I’m reading more and more that much of the voting rights erosion is getting shoved down their throats by courts. Maybe not gerrymandering, but ID etc. One can live in hope.

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey CL. I think that’s Sanskrit for, I hate the black guy in the WHITE house.”

  • Fergie1 : Hi y’all! With this nine hour difference between Australia and the East Coast and seven hour diff to the West Coast, it has put a bit of hindrance with my being able to come to VP more often and earlier. Miss all you good folks.

  • pinkpantheroz : Oh, AdLib, what a great thing that would be. Now, if only we could reverse all the gerrymanders….

  • choicelady : Hi everyone – BENGHAZI!!! An ancient conservative greeting as I understand it…

  • KillgoreTrout : I totally agree. GOTV work must be relentless. We just have to hold on to the senate and get some more seats in the house. The TPers are losing popularity, and that is definitely a good thing.

  • pinkpantheroz : Well, at least now Monica Lewinsky’s book will distract the RWNJ’s for a bit.

  • AdLib : KT – I am holding out hope that the Dem turnout may surprise many this Nov. So many reasons for Dems to go to the polls and be energized. We just need Obama and the DNC to really hammer on those populist points and the threat Repubs represent.

  • glenn : Ad–Nirek, Murph, and I were “chatting” today about questions the left has to get out there regarding Benghazi. Well, not Benghazi specifically, but why are we having so many hearings about Benghazi when there were 13 embassy attacks under gwb? Not to mention the “original” 9/11 happened when gwb ignored/downplay ed all warnings about terrorists about to strike on American soil. On American soil! If that had been a Democratic president when that happened, we’d probably STILL be having the friggin’ hearings!

  • KillgoreTrout : Quite true Ad. Each head is simply a weapon. Blunt and dangerous.

  • AdLib : glenn – Agreed, I do think the Benghazi Witch Hunt in The House will backfire among indies. I mean, just as they vote it in, they use it for partisan fund raising! We don’t even need the hearing now, it’s already completed its goal.

  • KillgoreTrout : The people who are really believing this current round of Benghazi ballyhoo are the same ignorant, fanatical brainwashed idiots that held support for Bush, no matter what Bush did or said. Fortunately, they are in the low 20% range of Americans, and many of them probably don’t even leave their houses on election day.

  • glenn : Ad–I’m hoping that this last Benghazi hearing actually has the opposite effect. I mean, it will still fire up the base, but I hope it fires up the left to get out there and vote in the midterms. ‘Cause if the left goes apathetic this midterm, and the repubs win the Senate, then “we ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”

  • AdLib : KT – All those Hydra heads and not one brain between them.

  • AdLib : glenn – Have to agree that the frenzy over Benghazi is proof that Repubs have finally lost on the ACA. Wow, that’s pretty cool! And NO ONE except the GOP faithful think that Benghazi is anything but BS or irrelevant. It may help them in 2014 to rally their faithful but it will leave them shipwrecked in 2016.

  • glenn : KT–As you say, why the need to pray in public? As long as we’re going with old sayings tonight, what about the one that says something like…”don’t tell me you’re a Christian, show me”. As far as I’m concerned praying in public is just telling me you’re a Christian; and a sanctimonious one at that!

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, it’s like the Hydra of Greek legend, only many more heads.

  • glenn : Ad–I’m hopeful the tide is somewhat changing. After all, repubs can’t get insurance execs to bash Obamacare; Rick Scott in FL can’t get seniors to bash Obamacare; and although they still have Benghazi; that seems to be falling apart, too.

  • KillgoreTrout : Absolutely glenn. This whole issue about where people can or cannot pray is really sort of ridiculous. A person can pray anywhere, at anytime. The issue really is, should they be able to do it aloud? I say no! I see that as proselytizing

  • AdLib : glenn – You’re right, it’s scoundrels!

  • AdLib : KT – You look at the big picture, you see how so many things are tied in together and help the 1% in their goals. Cutting taxes, cutting money for education, resisting an increase in the minimum wage, spending billions in brainwashing propaganda, trying to increase hurdles for voting. An ignorant, misled public that can’t vote unfettered makes for elections that support the 1% and helps them grow their oligarchy.

  • glenn : KT–Or make their pointy little heads explode!

  • KillgoreTrout : Ha! I think the man is definitely trying to make a point! ;)

  • glenn : Ad–I thought it was the last refuge of “scoundrels”. Either one works for most of the rwnjs.

  • glenn : KT–Oh yes, I am a heathen. I believe that is my right as an American citizen. Hey, did you see where the guy in FL who put up the beer can statue next to the nativity scene, now wants to be allowed to pray to Satan at the next city council meeting? His premise is that if Christians can open meetings with prayers to Christ, then he should be allowed to open meetings with prayers to Satan. Funny stuff!

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, and scoundrels!

  • AdLib : Whoops, glenn- You know the quote about patriotism, the last refuge of cowards.

  • KillgoreTrout : That’s how stupid and gullible the RW loonies are. They are almost always of low intelligence and little education and they are easily brainwashed by those who are smarter and work for the rich white guys that want to hold on to white power.

  • AdLib : glenn,

  • glenn : PPO–Oh, okay, I know who Rolf Harris is. I remember reading about him. He is a very strange-looking individual!

  • glenn : KT–Oh–the “patriotism” thing. What a crock! When an idiot rancher, who doesn’t believe in the federal government, who doesn’t believe he has to follow court orders, who uses women and children to stop federal law enforcement officers from enforcing court orders, and is willing to fire on those same federal officers, and is called a “patriot”, is when I knew that the righties in this country have no bloody idea what “patriotism” even means. It just frosts me that this man could ever be called a “patriot”!

  • pinkpantheroz : Folks, I’m a bit slow today, due to bits and bobs here, bbut I’ll try and answer asap.

  • pinkpantheroz : Glenn, rolf, Sorry, SIR Rolf Harrris is an Aussie entertainer who has played with and for children for 50 years in the UK, until they caught him at it! He’s now in the dock in London on pedophile charges!

  • KillgoreTrout : Well glenn, then you are a “heathen,” which makes them want to save you even more. It’s just plain fanaticism.

  • glenn : KT–Exactly. “Saving” you from what? And what happens if you don’t want to be “saved”? Or believe that you don’t need to be “saved”?

  • KillgoreTrout : glenn I believe racism and homophobia has a lot to do with it. The rich white guys want to stay on top. They use homophobia to whip up their base into a frenzy. It’s just really a tool they use to try to discredit liberalism. They use “patriotism,” in the same manner.

  • glenn : PPO–Oh forgot! Who is Rolf Harris?

  • KillgoreTrout : I think some evangelicals actually elieve they are “saving,” people, but I always want to know, saving me from what, exactly?

  • glenn : KT–I’m beginning to believe that you’re correct as to the reasons repubs want power. Unfortunately, I just don’t “get” it. Most of them are the same age as you and me. Why do they want to leave a legacy of hatred? I am finding I get more mellow as I age, not meaner as most repubs seem to be.

  • KillgoreTrout : glenn, that’s the nasty nature of any sort of evangelism.

  • glenn : PPO–I’m so sorry to hear that you have a loony religious right, too. I will never understand why those people cannot just mind their own business. I have no problem with them practicing their religion, but please give me the same courtesy/right to live my life as I please.

  • KillgoreTrout : It’s a power struggle, for the most part. The difference is why each party wants to remain in power. I believe the dems want power so they can actually improve the country for all Americans, and the repubs just want power to keep the rich, rich.

  • pinkpantheroz : G’night Murph!

  • glenn : KT–This is just what I don’t understand. It’s not like we made it to this point because of only Democrats or only republicans. We got into this “mess” together; why can’t we try to get out of it by working together? A little “pollyannish”, I agree, but I sure am getting tired of this constant fighting against each other.

  • pinkpantheroz : Glenn, following up on the Aussie politics. Yes, they have some great laws here. No guns ( the British weren’t dumb enough to insert any mention of arms carrying in any Law), Mandatory seat belts ( we were the first in the World) tobacco labeling and the like. We unfortunately have the same divide between the 1% and us peons. we also have the Party of Mean, the GOP-based ‘Liberal Party’ ( an oxymoron if I ever heard one). We’re also starting to get kickback from the loony religous right about the usual things like abortion, same-sex marriage and all the other rubbish. At least we haven’t got a Benghazi! But we do have Rolf Harris (shudder).

  • AdLib : Seeya Murph!

  • glenn : G’night Murph. See you around the Planet.

  • KillgoreTrout : Plant well Murph, after a good night’s sleep.

  • glenn : KT–Well said!

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey Murph! Every enemy needs an “other.” It’s a damn shame that fellow Americans can consider other Americans as an enemy.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Folks…I am leaving early. This is planting time and I am exhausted. So good night unless I cannot sleep.

  • glenn : KT–We’re talking about the usual–the nasty repubs. What’s your take on the latest Benghazi “hearing”?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hello KT…Ad Lib had finish a phone call and so we are meandering…com paring cross cultural notes.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sounds nice glenn.

  • glenn : KT–Same here. The trees and plants are absolutely beautiful. Azealas blooming their little hearts out and my daughter’s rose bushes are loaded with flowers. We get some days where it’s in the mid-80’s, and then the next day, we’re lucky to hit 70. Tonight the temp is down in the low 60’s because of the rain.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…the otherness of the not-us permits a lot of nasty behavior n the name of defing the real Americans.

  • KillgoreTrout : What are we talking about tonight?

  • KillgoreTrout : Spring has sprung, at least as far as the flowers and trees blooming and budding. It’s starting to get real pretty around here. Still have temps below 70 though.

  • AdLib : Doing well, KT! You!

  • glenn : KT–A little rain tonight. How about you? Has spring arrived on the Cape yet?

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey Ad and glenn. Things are going well, how about you guys?

  • glenn : Hey KT–How are you?

  • AdLib : Hey KT!

  • KillgoreTrout : How’s it going, Planet folks?

  • glenn : Murph–Don’t you think my analysis also somewhat explains why they want to portray everyone who doesn’t agree with them as “others”, even their fellow American citizens? I know you and I have been around the block a few times (as they say), and I don’t remember so much vitriol against fellow Americans. Or, maybe I’m just so damn tired of it! I remember the Vietnam War protests, and the Civil Rights protests, and I know we were divided, but I just don’t remember the level of nastiness that we have nowadays. I just think the repubs have sunk to such a new low when a sitting Senator of the United States of America can call the people who work in the White House, and the President of the United States of America, “scumbags”.

  • pinkpantheroz : BRB

  • pinkpantheroz : Glenn, I’m no expert whatever about Aussie politics, but it does seem that there are many similarities between the US and Australia Some here are now saying we’re so connected to the USA that we’ve become the 51st State!

  • glenn : PPO–Interesting the way you made your way to the Planet. It’s great to have you here so we can get a perspective on how citizens of other countries “see” the U.S., as well as how citizens of the U.S. living abroad see their country. When I lived abroad, I had many people ask me questions about the U.S., and it opened my eyes as to how others see us. And, going back to Murph’s previous comment, it also opened my eyes as to how and why many people don’t agree with the U.S. being the center of the world.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO You seem to cover the field rather well…global news for real. Tell me…what are the hottest issues in Aussie world

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn. Your analysis makes sense.

  • pinkpantheroz : Murph, Yes, Thanks to the web and cable and all the technology, we can access everything from anywhere. My favs are Al Jazeera English, BBC World, NHK Japan and CBS in the US. Thank WhatsHerName upstairs, I haven’t ever seen Fox and have no desire to, except for the times they make fools of themselves. Oh, that’s quite a bit, isn’t it??

  • glenn : Murph–I believe there is a parallel between Americans believing we are the center of the world and the old, white men losing their grip on the U.S. In both cases, they perceive their loss of power and are fighting back in the nastiest way(s) possible. IMO, that’s why their first reaction to other countries whose cultures are so different from ours is to attack. And also why they are so anxious to arm every American citizen. If you don’t agree with us/me, then I’ll just use violence. You know, “might is right”.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO As one who still prowls HP (and is a major contributor there) I need to point out that I fought the FB account verification but went along with it. My FB account is a blank wall with no friends and no content.

  • pinkpantheroz : Hi, Glenn. We were very busy on That Site Whose Name Shall be stricken from the ether. When the bastards insisted we Facebook sign in, my better half found an aricle which said, i think, that HP had blocked POV. If that was what they did, she said it must be a great site for our kind of people. And so it has transpired. What a find! :)

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO….I have taken a real shine to Al Jazeera as a really international platform. The network is not catching on here. I think that the internationalism is, in of itself, a turn off for many Americans who believe that we are the center of the world.

  • glenn : PPO–You speak of the “equally nasty pollies” in Australia. What are some of the issues there? I will always admire the Aussies because of their policy on guns. I just wish our “pollies” were as sensible as yours on that issue.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO Haight Ashbury! Does she wear flowers in her hair? Your interest in the U.S. is intriguing since I see our politics here as dull, miserable and nasty too although I am aware that your crazies are as nutty as ours.

  • pinkpantheroz : Yes, Murph, living in other countries really does open one’s eyes to the world at large. One thing I notice in US reportage, very few have much, if any International in depth news segments. A big pity, because it might just alter the impression that people in the US are centric in their thoughts

  • glenn : Murph–I agree. They never hesitate to lie and cheat when the demographics are against them, too.

  • glenn : PPO–just curious, and forgive me if you have already answered the question before, but how did you discover PlanetPOV?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…the rw has the organization, the money, the will, to hold on even when the demographics are against them.

  • pinkpantheroz : Oops, Murph – continuing! She was a figure in Haight-Ashbury, and needs to get her daily fix of Americana! So I’ve been absorbing the scene and reall have more interest in the US than the dull, misrable, equally nasty pollies that fester the current Aussie Government.

  • glenn : Murph–I really hope that I’m wrong about GA going blue soon. I read the “left” columnist in the Atlanta Journal Constitution daily, and judging by the comments from the rightwingers who frequent the site, if GA does turn blue, it’s not going to be without a fight. There are many lefties like me, too. I haven’t done a “formal” survey, but it does seem as though the rwnjs outnumber the lefties. There is also a “right” columnist, but I just can’t stand to read his columns, so I don’t know what the comments are there.

  • AdLib : Still on call, please keep the convo going,be back in a sec.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO I follow British News and German News because I lived in both places. I find it broadens my perspect.

  • pinkpantheroz : Murph, since we’ve been married, she and I have always had interest in US Politics, especially when we started getting US News shows Down Under, like NBC, ABC and CBS ( we watch CBS This Morning on delay, can no longer stand NBC and GMA)

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…that is my impression as well….I need to look at the demographics more closely.

  • glenn : Murph–Not sure about GA going blue any time soon. I agree that most of metropolitan Atlanta is solidly blue, but there are many rural areas that are not even close to being purple, let alone blue. I live in an upper middle-class suburb of Atlanta, and it is almost solidly red. And, forget my neighborhood; most of my neighbors are so red, their noses glow in the dark!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : PPO…whats a feral dem from the West Coast and why does that give you the interest you have in our politics from way down under in the land of Oz.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…the truth runs so counter to their narrative that they cannot accept it.

  • pinkpantheroz : Hi, Murph, glenn, et al. I’m married to a feral Democrat from the West Coast! It pains me that the greatest Institution in Modern political history in the greatest country has been deliberately broken, all because of fundamentalist, taliban-like religous bigotry and racial hatred. Shame, America, Shame!

  • glenn : Murph–I truly believe that most repubs have lived inside their “bubble” for so long that they either don’t recognize the truth when they hear it, or they choose not to hear it. I mean, look at the Benghazi hearings. I read an article the other day, I think it was on HP, about how foxso-callednews had asked five questions they wanted answered in this newest hearing, and all five questions had already been answered. I know it’s a cliche’, but they can’t handle the truth!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn….since it is basically you and I right now…I saw a long interview on Chris Hayes with two black women Democratic leaders in your state assembly and the former head of the NAACP….they were speaking about the shifting demographics in GA and that it was not a question of IF Ga goes blue but when it goes blue. Do you agree.

  • AdLib : Trying to wrap up a business call…BRB!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…the silence from the GOP on the committee was stunning. Remember when Romney lost and so many of the GOP were stunned- does no one brief these people? does no one tell them the truth?

  • glenn : Hey Ad–how goes it?

  • glenn : Murph–that was a good one!

  • glenn : Murph and Ad–Do you remember the TV program That Was the Week That Was? I was thinking of that program this week. This was the week that was for the republicans when the insurance execs ruined their little hearing about Obamacare. They just didn’t know what to do when the insurance execs explained that 80-85% of people had paid their premiums, and that the insurance execs were happy with the number of young people who had signed up. So, of course, what did the repubs do? Fall back on BG!

  • AdLib : Hey glenn!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn, you were taken by that idea I think…

  • glenn : Murph–the Glenn Drone has arrived!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn, there you are!

  • glenn : Murph–Here I am!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn, are you here?

  • glenn : Hey, Ad, Murph, and PPO How is everyone tonight? Hey PPO, it’s also piddling rain here in GA.

  • AdLib : Absolutely Murph!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Greetings Ad….thanks for the help on the story, some good comments. I cannot understand why the topic has not been picked up and pushed from the Left and by the media.

  • AdLib : Hi Murph!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Greetings PPO…tell me what is that drives your interest in U.S. politics from the land of Oz.

  • pinkpantheroz : Grabbing a coffee and will be back in a tick.

  • pinkpantheroz : Hi, Murph, adlib. Just gone Noon in MEL and piddling rain.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Well I am here…heeeellll looooo is anyone here or are you all examining your Benghazi Snooperscopes?

  • AdLib : Vox Populi, our live chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7 pm PST. Hope to see you then!
