• AdLib : Night!

  • SallyT : I’ll be trying to catch them! Good night.

  • AdLib : Okay, I’ll lock up Vox for the night. Sending you positive vibes, Sally!

  • SallyT : See you around later, I hope.

  • AdLib : I like Campbell, she is sharp and a true liberal.

  • SallyT : The former Canadian prime minister kim Campbell is good, tho.

  • SallyT : He has that jerk Matthew Continetti on.

  • AdLib : Tivo is recording Maher now, I prefer watching it that way so I can zip past sections that are poor.

  • AdLib : Well don’t let the hatred of these people get to you, we have to simply beat them with our positive energy this year. Get some rest and hope you feel better very soon!

  • SallyT : Oh, don’t bother with Bill Maher tonight. It wasn’t any good.

  • SallyT : I will turn you loose and let you get away. Have a great weekend.

  • AdLib : Damn…sorry!

  • SallyT : That is probably why I am letting things get to me that I usually can let pass.

  • SallyT : No, AdLib, it is a tough spill right now but I should get better.

  • SallyT : You have that right!

  • AdLib : Sorry Sally, hope you’re feeling better.

  • AdLib : That’s how the 1%ers think, that people are on welfare because they love it and unemployed so they can stay at home. They lack insights and empathy towards 99% of human beings, they are a waste of space and definitely a waste of airtime.

  • SallyT : I don’t ever watch him, really. But, I have been ill and can’t sleep much so I was awake.

  • AdLib : Which is why I don’t watch him, what he has to say is worthless. And I doubt many women who would react negatively to such a BS comment would give him any credence on anything.

  • SallyT : OMG, AdLib, that is like saying a woman chooses to live on the streets because she can be with her children and walk them to school and back again!

  • AdLib : Ye, that’s the 1% mentality I’d expect from that weasel.

  • SallyT : WHAT AN ASSHOLE! A REPUG ANSWER FOR YA!

  • SallyT : He said that there are many women that choose to live in trailer houses for years so they can stay home with there children!!!!

  • AdLib : I can guess but no, what did he say?

  • AdLib : This is all kabuki theater, just a series of gotcha games where people feign outrage and victimhood, reducing politics to trivial issues…so that the ignorant public won’t vote in their own interests. But underestimating the power of the MSM to sway elections would be a mistake.

  • SallyT : I don’t remember the guy who was trying to say what the real point that Rosen was trying to make and that it isn’t an option for too many women to be a stay at home mom. Do you know Joe’s answer?

  • SallyT : And, do you know what that asshole Joe said?

  • SallyT : And, that she has seen Mrs. Romney and how hard she is working on her husband’s campaign. Oh, give me a break!

  • AdLib : Yep, agree on both counts, Mika and Joe are total tools.

  • SallyT : She was saying that it is hard to be a mother. Like she doesn’t have all the help in the world herself with her kids. And the money she makes!!

  • AdLib : But if you were running for office as Obama is, you’d have to consider that advice. Fortunately, we’re not (and I never would want to run for office).

  • SallyT : And let me tell you! I was cussing Morning Joe this morning! That mika is a waste of space! I can not stand her!

  • SallyT : I use to have a boss that always was saying, “Sally, choose your battles. Don’t fall on your sword too soon.” But, I am not running for President.

  • AdLib : As you say, only Rachel was defending Rosen on MSNBC so you had all of CNN, FOX and most of MSNBC branding this toxic. That’s a problem.

  • SallyT : Oh, and Current was way in support of Rosen and against the MSM on the issue.

  • SallyT : However, Rachel was defending Rosen herself tonight. i have to give her that.

  • SallyT : I think the MSM, well especially MSNBC, let Obama and the women voters down more that anything.

  • AdLib : No worries Sally, I’m mostly agreeing with you too. For me, it’s a tactical thing, picking your fights. Maybe this would have been worth it. If this was July and the GE was officially underway, I might be saying exactly what you are but I would rather see Obama keep his powder dry right now, when less voters are engaged and when the MSM could be the only source of opinion voters adopt.

  • SallyT : Saying you have a better understanding of the situation with women voters than Romney will never hurt Obama. And, he won’t have to do much to prove he does. That is evident. And Mrs. Romney won’t help Romney that much at all!

  • SallyT : I am not totally disagreeing with you. Just giving an opinion as I see it. I am not looking for you to accept it as I wasn’t really expecting you to.

  • AdLib : Actually, it was someone from his campaign that couldn’t answer the Ledbetter question at the time it was asked but Romney did sidestep it in the aftermath. Romney has and will continue to have huge problems with women voters, I just don’t want to see Obama fall into the MSM trap of trying to hurt him with women voters.

  • SallyT : Oh, AdLib, Romney was already on the run himself at that time because he didn’t know about the fair wage bill that was one of the first things Obama signed into law. Obama didn’t have to defend the “inappropriate statement” at all. It was already proved that Romney doesn’t know shit about women needs.

  • AdLib : We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one but I do expect and anticipate that Obama will pound this issue hard for us, especially once the General Election is really in full gear. Sleep well tonight Sally, thanks once again for closing the VP bar with me! Have a great weekend!!!

  • SallyT : AdLib, I support this President and I will vote for him but he is could have used this situation to his advantage instead of running so fast in the direction he thought would play for the Repugs. They aren’t going to vote for him anyway. This is my thoughts on it anyway. So, since Bito wasn’t here with the hose, I will go to the showers on my own.

  • AdLib : So why don’t we look at it this way, Obama owes us a strong defense of working women and their lack of choice on staying at home, let alone their evaporating choice when it comes to their own body, pay equality, etc. I think he will deliver on that and the net impact will be no different than if he had done it in this instance. I do think his words will carry more impact though when not surrounded in a firestorm, which one can’t deny was constructed around this situation.

  • SallyT : It isn’t that he needed to support an inappropriate statement at all.

  • AdLib : Agree with your comments below, there is a tactical issue though in the middle of a campaign season and my point is merely that it is a better tactical approach to allow the firestorm to wane then return to the substantive issues about the middle class when people will listen to and report what you are actually saying. I am 100% confident that Obama will be hammering very hard on the 99%/Middle Class/Fairness issue, he has been doing so and will be doing so.

  • SallyT : But, she did say all the rest of it. They just took one sentence and added lighter fluid to it. There has been a lot of women on the internet and on TV for that matter defending her, too.

  • AdLib : So, as you describe, Rosen did say something that wasn’t appropriate. The MSM is pushing the toxicity of what she said but what she said was not appropriate. I appreciate that she meant to say, “Ann Romney never had to go out in the world and earn a living so she doesn’t know how working women feel.” but she didn’t say that. I just don’t think it would be a wise investment of political capital for Obama to have taken hits for supporting what we agree was an inappropriate statement.

  • SallyT : He can use this to his advantage, too. He can say he will ask the women about their needs beside the wage issue. Sure he has a good idea but he doesn’t need to put his wife out front because no one likes him like no one likes Romney but they do his wife.

  • SallyT : They are going to keep setting traps. That is the game. Obama is ahead with women and I am sure it will stay that way. He doesn’t have to run from the topic all together.

  • SallyT : Why can’t Romney ask women himself?

  • SallyT : She error in saying that Mrs Romney hadn’t worked a day in her life when she should have added “outside of the home”. But she also said that Romney going to his wife for enocomic advice was stupid because how could she relate. That was the point. The MSM turned it to a war on mommies.

  • AdLib : What I see is that there is a minefield set up for Obama to win re-election and accomplish all of the things that he wants to do, that would help the middle class, men and women. He has spoken out for the middle class repeatedly but without an electoral mandate and a Dem Congress, he can’t get anything passed to help.

  • SallyT : SHE DIDN’T SAY THAT. You are hearing how MSM repeated it. The MSM is winning on pushing this along.

  • SallyT : See, you just see a battle. THERE IS NO BATTLE in presenting that being a mother is hard work but adding a career on top of it because you can’t afford to live or have healthcare is even harder. The middle class is hurting and that includes the mothers.

  • AdLib : From all the coverage I saw on all the news networks, the consensus even from the MSNBC hosts was that this was a toxic thing to say. Not saying that is factually true but the facts don’t matter to the MSM. If they declare something toxic, it becomes toxic. And that’s what happened here. Should Obama have spent political capital taking heat for defending a fellow Dem who did say that being a housewife isn’t working? I think it would be a mistake.

  • AdLib : Sally – Rosen is involved in the DNC so she is involved in Dem stuff and has attended WH dinners. She said something that the MSM turned radioactive and that Obama would never have said. I just don’t think that when the stakes are this high and someone says something in a way that the MSM turns into something bad, that you pick that fight to have. You have to pick your battles in politics, I don’t see this as a good one, the sooner the fire was put out, the better.

  • SallyT : He wasn’t going to be knocked down. He could have been the one standing. And, the other Democrats needed to speak up, too, not just him. They all ran for cover.

  • SallyT : And, to say “some person on TV” making a comment. He has had Rosen to the White House Dinners. He knows her. He could have corrected the wording or said it wasn’t stated correctly. He didn’t have to belittle her entirely.

  • AdLib : Sally – Here’s my theory. Romney will again say something or have to deal with another anti-woman GOP bill and the issue will be turned against him again. Then, I think you’ll see Obama press this issue about working women.

  • AdLib : Sally – I’m a bit angered by all of this as well but the problem is that it’s nearly impossible for Obama to have a legit discussion about any issue when the MSM is revved up about trying to knock him down and make the race closer. He has to be tactical and that means not pressing issues sometimes when it can be twisted around and used against him. This was a total setup, they were gunning for him on this and he disarmed them. I think that was the best way to deal with them.

  • SallyT : I just think, as a woman that was both a stay at home until I couldn’t afford to stay in an abusive relationship and a working mom that he could have given me a better feeling about it.

  • SallyT : But the fire is not out and it won’t be until something else pops because they have him pedaling now.

  • AdLib : Thanks Killgore! Have a great weekend! Sleep well!

  • SallyT : Good night KT. I will go to bed and calm down.

  • AdLib : Sally – From my POV, the best thing to do on any meme once it catches fire and is burning your way is to put out the fire. Then, you come back to it later when you can address the issue and really be heard. I would guess that if Obama did anything other than put out this fire, no matter what he said, the MSM would only report, “Obama won’t condemn this anti-woman statement.”

  • SallyT : He talked to mothers directly when he was trying to get health care for all and even to the children. He didn’t need to run so fast in the same direction as Romney. He could have presented both sides better.

  • KillgoreTrout : Well good folks, I too must bid you adieu! Sleep tight and I’ll see you all soon.

  • SallyT : No, AdLib, he didn’t have to ignore it. If needed to use it to help him with women. Obama talks to women direct. He doesn’t use his wife. He could speak of his conversations with all of them. Not just stay at home moms.

  • AdLib : Thanks for the recommendation Bourne, I’ll look for it. And thanks for joining us tonight! Have a great weekend!

  • KillgoreTrout : I agree Sally. But you know what a great chess player Obama is! I think he may have done it to help support him in the upcoming debates with Rmoney!

  • AdLib : Sally – I don’t know what the best thing is to do. By responding quickly to knock down the MSM’s ability to paint Obama as anti-woman, he may have done the most advantageous thing. By ignoring it, the MSM which is looking for big sticks to beat Obama’s favorability down, could have instead successfully hung this around Obama’s neck and given ROmney a bigger lifesaver on the anti-woman issue. It’s the sad state of affairs we’re in with a corporate MSM that has its own manipulative agenda. Why was this a story in the first place? It shouldn’t have been. One CNN pundit says something and it’s a wildfire? The fact that this happened proves how the MSM is trying to whip up anti-Obama memes wherever possible.

  • SallyT : They didn’t need to run so fast away from it.

  • SallyT : I am just saying that they could have turned this around to help them too!

  • SallyT : Women work outside the home to Feed the family and get health benefits if you are lucky! Why take away ACA?

  • KillgoreTrout : Nite Bourne and glad to see you are becoming more comfortable on VOX and the Planet as well.

  • SallyT : Okay, get the hose!!!!

  • SallyT : Fair wage for women that is.

  • AdLib : Bourne – I watch MSNBC more than Fox or CNN because I can stomach it more but my purpose is just to see what spin and memes are being thrown out at the public, I’m not one of those who swallows them. Sometimes they have good segments, other times they are merely doing what their corporate bosses pay them to do, muckrake and whip up the viewers. In fact, I find that much of the same conversations are had on most of the shows throughout the day.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally, exactly. I always trust Joe to keep it real!

  • SallyT : And, that is why we passed the fair wage bill that Wisconsin Gov just overturned!!!!

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh man Ad, me too. The 4th estate used to be the last bastion against undemocratic motiffs and procedures. I do indeed put a lot of stock in the movie Network. Great catch by the way!

  • SallyT : He could have said something that he wasn’t against stay at home moms and yes being a mother is hard work. But, he wished that was an option for more women because it is harder yet when you have to add a career on top of being mom just so you can feed the family!!!!

  • BourneID : Nght Murph. Everyone else, I’m going soon but really recommend The Middle. It is all of us. Great conversation tonight. Thanks all.

  • SallyT : Maybe so, KT, but Biden too and he had just made a speech that day that Romney can’t relate. He asked the audience, “How many of you have a Swiss bank account?”

  • AdLib : Night Murph! Sleep well and dream of Brady Bills jumping over losing NRA candidates!

  • KillgoreTrout : Have a peaceful evening Murph!

  • AdLib : Killgore – True. I know you’re a fan of the movie “Network” as I am, that film really shows the tipping point as news was becoming just another profit center for corporations buying up broadcasting companies. Kind of sad that people just accept a cautionary tale as true and have no recourse to change the way things are. I sure would like a Constitutional Amendment declaring media entities be independent guardians of the public interest, as the Founders intended.

  • BourneID : Hey Murph, I don’t know what your TV schedule is, but if you haven’t seen The Middle you should, Don’t have to spend a week in a $45K per year household, you can see it on Wednesday nights, ABC, 8pm, 7pm central. It is classic, excellent – a completely dysfunctional family, messy, love each other, great kids. It is one of the best shows on TV. I record to be sure I wont miss an episode. Try it.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally, Obama refuted Hilary’s statement because politically, it was the right thing to do. You know how smart Obama is, and he clearly knows that defending Romney, in this case, will help him look more civilized in the long run. But I agree, Hilary was absolutely right in her claims.

  • SallyT : Oh, and Mommy Grizzly and her shitty comment of “Why do they always attack us for making a choice that they don’t agree with?” Bitch, you are trying to take CHOICE away from us!!!! I love how many times they use that word and don’t understand it from the other side.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Well gang…I am falling asleep…a day of cruising with gun toting trolls has done me in. Wish you all a good night.

  • AdLib : Murph – Yep, it would make for a brilliant documentary, spending a week in the Romney home and seeing all that they have and can do and then a week with an average American household who makes $45,000 a year total. Let’s see just how much of a victim that Ann is compared to 99% of Americans.

  • SallyT : They do, AdLib. But, I am a little disappointed that we were so quick to apologize for this woman’s statement. I think they should have focused more on the point she was trying to make instead of the strikes others thought they had against her.

  • BourneID : AL I know, that’s why I ask myself every day why I’m watching this. I’m smarter than they are; more interested than they are. The current ‘Hosts’ on MSNBC aren’t old enough to remember anything important; they have no sense of history, why we are where we are; they’re news readers. The women look like mannequins, perfect make up, hair, clothes. It’s all hollywood hype.

  • KillgoreTrout : It used to be, that news departments within a corporate ownership didn’t have to show a profit. And losses were considered par for the course, because people valued real reportage and not this shitty mix of entertainment with news. That is no longer the case and corporate owners want to squeeze every dime they can from their broadcasts.

  • AdLib : Sally – So true, take away abortion, contraception, Planned Parenthood, privatize SS and Medicare and the ACA…women will be so hammered, they will be going backwards on most all equality issues. I think most women get that and could care less about this latest manufactured “outrage”.

  • SallyT : Most women don’t have health insurance for their children and that is even those with jobs!

  • SallyT : Most women don’t know if their children will be taken care of it something should happen to them let alone have millions in trust funds for them.

  • AdLib : Bourne – Each of the three major news channels are owned by corporations seeking to exploit certain demographics so they do indeed cater to their viewers while at the same time, try to rile them up. HP is no different, the MSM is what it is, a corporate-minded animal that has one goal, swallowing as much revenue as it can and they will do what works best to achieve that goal.

  • SallyT : Bourne, most women don’t even have a house let alone 5 of them. And most don’t have money in the bank let alone in Swiss accounts.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL endorse your approach on RomneyVision…. a week with an American Family….HAH

  • BourneID : Sally, I agree. Mrs. R won’t be seen as a victim. It’s impossible for the working mom to imagine having the luxury of time and help etc. She’s probably a nice person, but her bridge is a helluva lot higher than mine and 99% of the women we’re talking about. The landscape looks different from her bridge; you can’t see the crap on the ground. You just see the mountain top.

  • SallyT : You really care about stay at home moms? Well, let them earn into SS and get tax breaks for it that might help offset some cost

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, there ARE times when being a part of the 1% is not so advantageous.

  • AdLib : Murph – I believe in judo as the best art in politics, use the opposition’s weight against them. Romney wants to rush over for the, “We’re victims because my wife juts wanted to stay home and raise our kids like many moms would,” then expose what life was really like for these “victims” and how they are frauds on this. You bet they had nannies and maids and gardners and who knows what kinds of tutors and expensive training and classes. Sure ROmney, you want to talk abou your family, let’s have a look at how a 1%er family lives and how the rest of us live.

  • SallyT : Believe me, most women would close to stay home with their children for at least the first 10 yrs if they could afford to do that. But they can’t. And taking away birth control and invading their bodies isn’t going to make it better.

  • BourneID : AL, you know where I see and hear all of this stuff we’re talking about now? MSNBC. They spend more air time talking about Romney and GOP than they do about the Dems. Why? They’re preaching to the choir. We don’t watch them because we like to be challenged and think and hear differently; no we watch because they’re on our side. Chris M is the worst – he predicts one day the prez will lose based on polls, then the polls change and he predicts the prez will win, then somethng else happens. They don’t challenge; they don’t demand – they just want the prez to.

  • SallyT : Not to many women are going to see Mrs. Romney as a victim here.

  • AdLib : Sally – That is the point that should continue to be made. 99% of women don’t have husbands that are quarter billionaires and can afford to stay home and raise 5 kids. That and making the point that the wealthy don’t know first hand what it’s like to HAVE to work for a living.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL I worked for the Jerry Ford campaign. He was a very decent and competent person. He made a difficult decision re. the Nixon pardon, which we can debate at another time, BUT the MSM of the day set out to skewer him because of all of the money, fame, and power lost for lack of a Nixon trial. The game then is the same now…the MSM operate in service to their own aims first and foremost.

  • SallyT : Because they are after that woman vote, AdLib. The commies always vote Democrat.

  • KillgoreTrout : I think that getting Mrs. Romney into this debate about women is stupid. The damage has been done, by Romney himself. Just the fact that he proposes to eliminate Planned Parenthood alone, is too much to come back from. He is clearly not on the side of women, and they know he isn’t, no matter what claptrap comes out of Mrs. Romney. I think the Romneys are just digging a deeper whole for themselves, which is about par for the course with Romney.

  • AdLib : Bourne – Yep, saw that. Allen West also did that McCartyite attack on Dems in Congress being commies. How come Romney wasn’t dinged for that but Obama is supposed to be dinged for this?

  • AdLib : Murph – Exactly. Romney has done far worse, refusing to condemn Limbaugh’s chauvinist attacks and yet even that didn’t become such a massive story like this BS. I repeat, the MSM is a partner in trying to tarnish Obama in pursuit of a closer contest.

  • SallyT : KT, were is Bito with that water hose. Here is where I get fired up!!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…more of that maid on current would grease the skids on the topic of Family Life at the Romneys

  • BourneID : I saw that Sally. un be lieve able.

  • SallyT : Believe me, there are more working moms than stay at home because most women don’t have the option of staying home because they can’t afford it!

  • BourneID : AL so you ddidn’t read Allen West saying Obama won’t debate him because the prez is afraid? Maybe that included unknown pundits.

  • AdLib : Murph – I think the Romneys could open a real can of worms by trying to exploit this “housewife” thing, as the facts about daily life in the Romney household come out. I mean, is operating the car elevator, one of the kid’s chores? Or counting the Krugerrand?

  • SallyT : Bourne, you will also see the article I posted from the Catholic League that had to say that Rosen is a lesbian and adopted her children and didn’t give birth to them like Ann Romney! Bull Shit!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL….I agree about Rosen and add this…why do the Dems act so weak in the face of challenges like this. Rosen was not a spokesperson for anyone Dem BUT if you the GOP want to play that way then call on Romney to apologize for every GOP foot in mouth moment (attn Congr. West) and every Fox outrage. AND after that make the point that Rosen’s basic position was correct, Romney does not make a good representative for the needs of those who work for a wage because they must.

  • AdLib : Bourne – There isn’t much swearing around here…at least not as much as she would hear around her high school and it’s far outweighed by thoughtful discussion, I don’t think 16 year olds would be shocked by anything that’s blogged here.

  • BourneID : Thanks Sally. I haven’t been there so I’ll go later.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Bourne…the maid basically said that the romneys were nice but pampered and Ann was very well taken care of. Liked her but knew she knew nothing about the life of most women esp. those for whom work was survival.

  • KillgoreTrout : ad, well said. Music in the 60s and early 70s really did reflect the social and political atmosphere of the times. I think there was far more though behind the music then. Of course, we too had our Bubble gum and silly music. But by far there was much more social, spiritual and politcal commentary. I like your term, McDonaldization.

  • SallyT : You will see both KT and Bito commenting on it.

  • SallyT : It is on AdLib’s article today in my comments.

  • BourneID : Sally, nice meeting you. Where can i find the link? I’m new and usually lost on the site but getting better.

  • SallyT : I put a link up earlier to that maid that called in.

  • AdLib : Murph – Rosen was doing what she’s paid to do, be an outspoken pundit on CNN. Fox has pundits saying far more outrageous things all through the day every day…but the MSM is not as interested in jumping on the GOP as they are in trying to knock Obama down or pump ROmney up so the Presidential contest will be more competitive and lucrative to them. Why on Earth should a virtually unknown pundits opinion become something Obama has to deal with???

  • BourneID : Murph, give us more on Mrs Rpmney’s maid. I asked one of my friends on HP if he/she thought Mrs R ever asked her staff who’s taking care of their kids. Was it positive or negative?

  • KillgoreTrout : I agree Bourne. It is an interesting subject. I think there IS something to be said for “the school of hard knocks.” But then again, I think the majority of kids joining gangs is more the rule that the exception. Kids join gangs not only for economic reasons, but for protection from other gangs as well. America does have a very big gang problem, no doubt about it.

  • SallyT : There is a lot more “shock factor” to the music now, too.

  • BourneID : AdLib, I’ll invite her next time she’s on; I assume she might come back the weekend; don’t she lets anythng interfere, I’ll let you know, BUT I’m concerned about our adult language – it might constrict conversation; your thoughts and everyone else here.

  • AdLib : Killgore – I will be a snob like that and say that it is the corporate domination of everything that has made the quality of most things today inferior. Music included. The corporate marketing of music based more on the appearance of the performer and the McDonaldization of music to the simplest, most familiar and lowest common denominator just can’t compare with artist inspired music from generations passed.

  • AdLib : Night Foodchain, so nice to see you!

  • BourneID : KT interested in what you just wrote re kids who are born without to worry about thing – less crime. I taught in crime area in Sac; gangs, problems, economically depressed. Teachers and I taled often about the fact we weren’t worried that our kids woud come in and shoot up the school. Seems to happen in middle to upper middle class. Our kids have coping skills; they learn to survive; no time for games and other amusements because no money to buy them. Interesting studies could come from this.

  • AdLib : Killgore – I was a bit skeptical at first about the abortion/crime proposition but the reasoning did come off as sensible and viable to me. Kids that are not socialized because they aren’t wanted become more sociopathic. It’s kind of simple.

  • KillgoreTrout : That’s truly encouraging Bourne. No doubt.

  • foodchain : Night all. Be better company soon

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…Ms Rosen misspoke…the truth Ann Romney has never worked for a paycheck…she had no need to….this morning on Liberally Speaking the Current TV program with Stephanie Miller, one of Ann’s maids was a guest….eye opener.

  • KillgoreTrout : Ah, but our music really had something to say. No Justin Biebers or Maddona wanna bes.

  • AdLib : Bourne – I think someone like this young lady should pop by The Planet and participate. Young people can bring fresh perspectives which are always welcome here and they can also benefit from the many well informed but considerate people here.

  • KillgoreTrout : Well, it makes sense to me Ad. People who have the basic needs of life are much less likely to commit crimes and the fewer babies born to families or single mothers that can’t supply those needs, the less crime committed. It really does stand to reason.

  • AdLib : So how long do you think Romney is going to beat this dead horse about his wife being attacked by a CNN pundit and trying to blame Obama and all Dems for it? It was already played out today and his blatant exploitation of it at the NRA speech, even pulling his wife up there as (once again) the Righteous Victim that all Repubs need to be.

  • BourneID : KT, this gal is great. I am really impressed. We don’t talk to these kids; we assume they’re all the same. They aren’t. We just don’t reach them. This young lady has more class, refinement..talk ed about books she’d read, her papers…it’s thrilling to see something like this. Hey AdLib, how about a PlanetPOV for high schoolers and college age?

  • AdLib : Killgore – There are different segments of the youth, some are the video game addicts while some are the OWS protesters. The good thing is that this crop of college aged kids are, by necessity, far more activist than many previous ones.

  • KillgoreTrout : Nite Kes, and thanks for stopping by, especially after all the hard work you do.

  • SallyT : Yah, cause those hooked on rock music grow up to be us, KT!

  • BourneID : Murph, she is a class act…advanced thinking skills.

  • KillgoreTrout : Bourne, they ARE the future of this nation, literally. It’s comforting to know that they aren’t all hooked on video games and pop music!

  • AdLib : Night Kes! Sleep well!

  • BourneID : Bye Kess, nice meeting you

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Bourne…I second that emotion….the young lady is a class act

  • AdLib : I’m not saying that this is an absolute truism but check out the Freakonomics theory on legal abortion and the ongoing decline of violent crime: «link»

  • kesmarn : I’m gonna have to check out as well, friends. It’s been a looooooong week. Have a wonderful weekend all!

  • SallyT : It will, KT, it will!

  • BourneID : Hey KT met the exception to that newswatching thing. Last week a 16 year old high school student, beautiful black girl (her picture was on her profile page) had 10 fans and posted a tremendous para about why everyone has to be so rude, so angry, don’t to talk across the aisle and how is she as a young person supposed to feel since she’s just begining to get interested in politcis. Said she and her best friend want to do a youtube site where they encourage others of their age to get involved with things other than FB, and other stuff they do. Very bright, very promising. Someone responded and told her to “get used it, that’s the way it is.” She responded, “Why should I accept the way it is?” Loved it. There’s hope. We have to listen and talk to these kids.

  • KillgoreTrout : Yes Sally with all that home “scholling,” our nation will drop many more collective IQ points.

  • AdLib : Night AB and you owe an explanation on “itchy monkey” don’t forget that!

  • SallyT : I don’t know how much it may have contributed to it but I think crime is down because we have better educated people. Now, take away education and we may see a reversal.

  • AdLib : Sally – Sad but true and the law now in AZ.

  • KillgoreTrout : Itchy Monkey? Sleep tight AB, always fun when you join in.

  • kesmarn : AB, have a great weekend and just sit back and watch that food disappear. Are armadillos good eatin’?

  • AlphaBitch : OK, saddle pals. It’s my nighty night time. Rest well, and I’ll read up in the mornin’. I”m sure the locusts will sleep in. Gives me time to enjoy a cuppa in my MB mug, and scroll down the VP. How cool that we have all these ‘breviations! You guys ROCK and make Fridays so much more fun!!!! (except when there’s an Itchy Monkey or some good music….now ponder that one)

  • AdLib : AB – Great story and I know how much some Texans hate armadillos!

  • SallyT : Well, AL, according to AZ law, life begins after the bloody place.

  • kesmarn : AdLib, I wonder if the decline in crime also has to do with having a Dem Prez (with increase in the level of hope). Crime went down under the Clinton admin, too.

  • KillgoreTrout : I think with all the technology that allows much greater access to news stories is a part of it too. For someone who watches too much news, they see the world as a very scary place, thus they feel a greater need to arm themselves. Sad really.

  • AdLib : So if the RW bars abortion, we may see a sharp increase in violent crime along with SYG laws in place, America could become a bloody place.

  • AdLib : And BTW, violent crime is generally down all over America, a trend that according to Freakonomics, has to do with abortion being legalized and unwanted children not turning to desperation and crime.

  • AlphaBitch : Sally! Whoop!

  • AdLib : Hey Sally!!!

  • AlphaBitch : AL: True story. I once drove to the country to visit my “illegitimate mother”, who was in her 70s at the time. She came out in her nighty, with blood everywhere. Freaked me out. She wasn’t even aware of it, and when I asked WTF happened, she told me she had been shooting the armadillos who were eating her garden! Guns are a way of life for some.

  • kesmarn : Hey, Sally!

  • BourneID : Kes I don’t ike the shoot em part either, but it looks like good bumper sticker material and “sounds” like the GOP mantra.

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh Ad, definitely fear. Without a doubt. With the rise of gangs in America, it kind of makes sense. Home invasions and such.

  • AdLib : And back then, people actually did shoot game for food!

  • kesmarn : Sometimes I wish those TV westerns had never been made. Too many problems were neatly “solved” in 30 minutes with gunfire.

  • SallyT : Did someone call for the Indians?

  • AdLib : Killgore – But nowadays, I think those into guns do it for a different reason. Fear and power, whereas in the Old West, it was a necessary tool for protection because there weren’t police forces around.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…the leadership is very bleached out…I know the guy you are talking about….he was on several other shows today….no he is not typical

  • AlphaBitch : Yeppers Murph. To those yokels, Obama would have to be a “them”.

  • KillgoreTrout : I think that a lot of the reason for massive gun ownership is that America is a war like nation. It’s also romanticism about the old west and the gangster days of the 20s and 30s.

  • kesmarn : Greetings, Bourne! But I’m not exactly in sympathy with the “Shoot ’em all…” sentiment. Too scary for me! :-D

  • AlphaBitch : Blessed are the ……you know the rest, AL. “Make sense to the NRA” is its own special oxymoron, with emphasis on the MORON.

  • AdLib : Murph – I saw an NRA spokesman on MSNBC today, he looked like a meek, frightened little fat man with glasses. Sound like anyone you saw there?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AB…in a room full of loud talking white guys competing for the best cowboy or tough guy look….Obama is a “them”

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: And why do you think they think the Pres is a “them”?

  • AdLib : So wouldn’t it make sense, to turn back the anarchy that they are trying to instill, to point out what the end result of the NRA’s power would be?

  • BourneID : Kes, we haven’t met either. “Shoot em all and let God sort em out” is THE perFECT bumper sticker! You have my vote.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…now if you want to get into the crazies…get into the crowd there….a lot of the folks who attend NRA meetings are frightened, anxiety driven, fearful of all of those “thems” out there (with the prez as their leader)….

  • AlphaBitch : AL: We can swap stories sometimes. I lived in Jasper and Woodinville – DEEP E. Texas – while working as an archaeology assistant. Deliverance times ten.

  • kesmarn : I think they always feel that they’ll be the last one standing, AdLib. “Shoot ’em all and let God sort ’em out” is not entirely a joke with them.

  • KillgoreTrout : That’s exactly it AdLib. The firearms industry has a lobbyist group, and they’re called the NRA!

  • AlphaBitch : The NRA doesn’t give a shit about America or they wouldn’t push guns as an answer to everything.

  • AdLib : AB – Yep, East TX is very much the same as NW Louisiana and that’s not a good thing.

  • AlphaBitch : Bourne: Wichita Falls is a scary place, for many reasons. Same reason why I claim east Texas is really just more Louisiana.

  • AdLib : So if it is all about owning guns, then it is just a sociopathic, corporate mentality at play here? That simple and insane? And the ultimate goal would be people shooting each other everywhere, fear and havoc throughout the country and death everywhere. That’s the America the NRA wants?

  • AlphaBitch : I once read a transcript of a trial, where the Texas judge stated: Don’t quote Federal law to me. I don’t give a damn about Federal law. This is Texas, and all I care about is Texas law.

  • KillgoreTrout : kes, yeah, it was during the Indian Wars in the 1900s west.

  • BourneID : AlpheBitch – are you really one? Love the way you talk. Texas is a little scary. i spent 3 onths in Wichita Falls going to budget school when I worked as civilian for AF. Sent me there in April at beginning of tornado season; I was afraid for three months. Told my boss he didn’t send me there to learn budget; he sent me there to die. Now they’re in California.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Romney at the NRA speaking to defend guns and gun toters…but…. On July 1, 2004, Romney signed a permanent state ban on assault weapons, saying at the signing ceremony for the new law, “Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.” The law extended a temporary measure that had been in effect since 1998 and covered weapons such as the AK-47, Uzi, and MAC-10. The same law also modified some other aspects of general firearms licensing regulations.

  • kesmarn : I did not know that, KT.

  • KillgoreTrout : kes, that’s actually what the Winchester rifle was referred to. The great equalizer.

  • AlphaBitch : Do I see my guy Bito up there?

  • AlphaBitch : Bourne: Has to be a Texas judge. I know many who do.

  • BourneID : FC especially if the judge is the one who keeps it in his drawer. I’m sure I read it somewhere.

  • KillgoreTrout : I’m thinking the old Lynard Skinner song, “Give Me Three Steps Mister!”

  • kesmarn : I think it’s even more lizard-brain than that, AdLib. I think many of them are people who are so old and/or out of shape that they know they would never have a chance in physical confrontation. So guns to them are the great equalizer.

  • AlphaBitch : I believe greed and fear are the biggest motivators for people. The NRA is served by greed borne on people’s fears.

  • BourneID : Murph, I didn’t see Allen but that’s a question I’m interested in I cannot help comparing this to the Casey Anthony case…sloppy, scary police work. Her daughter missing and grandma reported it when she learend it 30 days later. i think FL has big problems. KT and I have been discussing this.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…look at the sponsors of the NRA..gun manufacturers who believe in driving the market higher and higher…never enough guns…never enough ammunition…a firearms culture

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, it’s all about gun sales. The NRA actually cares very little about the 1st amendment, although they’ll never admit it.

  • AdLib : AB – I’ll post it as a comment…or maybe as a post for everyone to join in!

  • kesmarn : And there’s Cher’s oldie: “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, They surely make me wanna stand my ground…”

  • AdLib : A question to all here, what do you think is the actual goal of the NRA through the SYG laws? Do they want havoc in the streets and rampant murders? Do they just want everyone scared so they buy guns? Then what, once everyone has bought guns, they don’t need more. What’s the ultimate purpose?

  • foodchain : Hi Bourne, I don’t know about guns in court rooms, but it sure would make the attorneys and judge think a bit

  • KillgoreTrout : Ah yes AdLib, the Wu Tang Clan! And the Earp clan!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Did anyone else see Alan M. Dershowitz this week arguing that Zimmerman will likely get off because of the constraints place on prosecution by the FL law and because of the failures in the initial on site investigation.

  • AlphaBitch : Good un’ AL! Go with it.

  • AdLib : AB – I’m thinking about a parody of Everybody Have Fun Tonight, “Everyone shoot guns tonight!”

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, it’s a horrible law. Both parties in a shoot out could claim their life was threatened. It’s definitely a vigilante’s wet dream.

  • foodchain : Ad, this does encourage a slim and active mind

  • BourneID : Oh geez, AdLib, you had to bring me out of retirement. Not my eyes, my fingers. Do you know how many times I have to retype words because I’m not in the right place? So as long as I’m back, FC (we haven’t met) re your gun in the courtroom. Wasnht’ther;e somethng recently about a judge who brought keeps a gun in and displayed it? or was that a TV show?

  • AlphaBitch : AL: So that justifies road rage???? You’re afeared that some sumbitch will swerve into your lane?????

  • kesmarn : It would made old Dodge City look like an Anglican book discussion group, KT.

  • AdLib : Killgore – The thing about SYG is that it uses the shooter’s “belief” as his defense. As long as one believes their life is in immediate danger, they can murder.

  • KillgoreTrout : Wow kes, can you imagine all the gun play.

  • foodchain : Kes, hi! and yeah, Hmmmmmm. I’d be seriously worried

  • AlphaBitch : Just thinking of a Woody Guthrie version for Mr. Z: “This ground is my ground, that land is my ground, from where you live now to where I stand now. And I will shoot you, no need to loot me; this law was made for guys like me!”

  • kesmarn : As a Lib, if I walked into a FL Tea Party demo, I might be in fear for my life. Hmmmmm…..

  • AdLib : Bourne – We will be publishing the “PlanetPOV Diet Book for Eyes” soon, which demonstrates how participating in Vox Populi will keep your eyes slim and in shape!

  • foodchain : Bourne, I know. I’m watching tv with hubby, he’s watching and doing words with friends, hah

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, that’s a very good question. But I think the fear of death has to be an immediate fear.

  • foodchain : Ad, if you can take guns to church and bars, i’d bet courtrooms are next.

  • AdLib : I tweeted this but technically, if Zimmerman was in court and felt threatened for his life, because of the death penalty, couldn’t he legally shoot a judge and jury?

  • BourneID : Okay, everyone. I’m going to sit back and listen for 15 minutes. I’m working harder trying to up with all of you than i do on my treadmill everyday. Keep talking.

  • foodchain : ((((((Kiss)))))

  • AlphaBitch : AH, FC,yes you are!

  • foodchain : AB, well, I can’t say I am so much now but…..

  • AlphaBitch : “STAND your ground” does NOT equal “CHASE your prey” or “WALK your ground”, Mr. Z.

  • AdLib : AB and Killgore – I could dress up as Tommy Gun, the kiddies pal.

  • KillgoreTrout : I wouldn’t wear chaps in a roomful of guys with penis envy!

  • foodchain : I thought Bloomberg said a good thing about stand your ground as a thinly veiled excuse for vigilantism

  • AlphaBitch : FC: Cute, huh!

  • BourneID : OMG – THE ZIMMERMAN EFFECT? murph do they ever mention law enforcment deaths, such as in VT (?) and Modesto this week? Do they care?

  • AlphaBitch : Afghanistan) with a cowboy hat and a six shooter. Hilarious – or at least to me.

  • foodchain : AB, I have chaps and I know what that looks like, lol

  • AlphaBitch : I once dressed up in a burqa (from

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, the human RPG!

  • AlphaBitch : AL; Wear chaps without pants. that’s a real show stopper.

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, just make sure you wear a “vest.”

  • AlphaBitch : I’ve got a turban I can lend you and a shalwar kameez.

  • foodchain : Ad, maybe someone should yell THIEF and they’d shoot everyone

  • AdLib : I’ll dress up like a grenade launcher.

  • AlphaBitch : AL: Wear your invisibility cloak.

  • BourneID : Murph, oh crap for get the question I just asked. Sent it then saw the speakers list.

  • AdLib : Hey, maybe I’ll go to the next NRA convention, stand in the middle of the hall and yell at the top of my lungs, “LOOK OUT, HE’S GOT A GUN!” and watch them all shoot each other.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL…One of the Seminars, I kid you not. “Self Protection and the American Gun: The Zimmerman Event.”

  • KillgoreTrout : Ah yes Bourne, more Alaskan “beat poetry!”

  • AlphaBitch : KT: SEriously. The man obviously has no friends. They would tell him the truth – that that ‘stache has to go.

  • BourneID : Murph, do they have guest speakers at the NRA convention? Maybe Sara Palin would be a great choice..idiot.

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, Koo koo ka choo!

  • AlphaBitch : AL: good one.

  • AdLib : Murph – Did the NRA invite Zimmerman as a special speaker?

  • foodchain : He IS a walrus

  • AlphaBitch : JOhn the Walrus Bolton?

  • AlphaBitch : Where is CL??

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Speakers at the NRA event: Governor Mitt Romney Senator Rick Santorum Speaker Newt Gingrich Congressman Darrell Issa Senator Roy Blunt Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton Leadership Forum Speakers Hon. Ken Blackwell Lt. Col. Oliver North Governor Scott Walker U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Governor Bobby Jindal Senator Chuck Grassley Leadership Forum Speakers Governor Rick Perry

  • foodchain : AB, a bumper sticker: demand secession! Take your guns to town

  • AlphaBitch : KT: Again, Blessed are the dumbfucks. Read Lamb – you will NOT be disappointed!

  • BourneID : AdLib, I’ll contact you and Murph and anyone else who wants to help script my questions. I think I’ll find out if CL wants to go with me – it’s not until May or June. We could be quite a pair, right?

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, i was on a Yahoo thread earlier, about Atheists on the Rise In America.” The nastiest, most hateful comments came from those defending religion. Go figure!

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: I DO have a fondness for knives and daggers, I must admit. A friend wanted me to get a charm to put on her necklace (each charm represents a close friend). When asked what I wanted, I said “A sword”. Made sense to me, but they are hard to find. got one on line.

  • kesmarn : Them young ‘uns has them ultra-rapid metabolisms. A rice cake will add 15 to someone of my vintage, AB.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : oin us for the 141st NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits at America’s Center in the heart of St Louis, MO April 13-15, 2012. With over 500 exhibitors covering 340,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, educational seminars, celebrities, and fun filled special events, bring the whole family- there will be something for everyone! You’ll also see knives, wildlife art, shooting accessories, hunting gear, ATV’s, and much more!

  • AlphaBitch : Kes: Aren’t they all (skinny). Why does my arse grow just nibbling while they wolf it down???

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: Be sure and go pray these people find Jesus and quit acting like horse patooties.

  • kesmarn : AB, I don’t know if half of Costco will do it. Son just ordered 30 hot wings… for himself! And he’s skinny!

  • AdLib : Hey Kes!!!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : «link» Note on the Program: “Note: The city of St. Louis prohibits the carrying of firearms at the America’s Center Convention Complex.” AND they have a prayer breakfast on Sunday AM.

  • AdLib : Bourne – You can quote the GAO and the recent economic analysis of a variety of economists that Lungren is saying something that’s false. And if he quotes that “analysis” that came out this week saying that the ACA would cost billions, you can cut him off and say that it was paid for by the Koch borthers and not an independent , objective analysis.

  • AlphaBitch : Kes: A little tipsy, with one extra 22 year old male and a 16 year old German showing up tomorrow. THREE young males, or as I call it: The plague of locusts. Bought half of Costco, I did.

  • BourneID : Murph like the Bourne free = have to work on that. clever.

  • foodchain : Ad, so consistent with their attitude of hating us and hurting themselves and looking stupid as they do it

  • kesmarn : Hey KT, and all. How’s everyone this Friday?

  • AlphaBitch : FC: Amen.

  • foodchain : AB, watching any of this group seek approval for their behavior??? I’m thinking lots of on the knees groveling, crying , weeping , pleading/ It should be televised

  • AlphaBitch : Kes! Cuz I lubs you, honey!

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey kes!

  • AlphaBitch : AL; Maybe a bumper sticker with all our fuck ups just saying “Maybe we SHOULD just secede!” Although it will surely get me keyed/broken into/flat tired.

  • kesmarn : AB!! You are quick! I just flew in for a minute (on my broomstick?) after a loooooong Friday.

  • AdLib : AB – Blessed are the dumbfucks for someone has to buy fried butter on a stick.

  • AlphaBitch : AL; you gots Issa.

  • BourneID : AL Just got one of his mailings warning that Obamacare will bankrupt Meicare; I plan to ask why he still has his on federal healthcare if it’s so horrible and threatening. Voted for him for years for Attny General in CA and Congress. No more…true hypocrite. Everytime town halls were held anywhere and people came in with guns, he was the one who shuld yelled loudest – chief law enforcment officer in this state says nothing.

  • AdLib : AB – That’s quite a tough League of Extraordinary Weasels to beat but CA has its share too!

  • AlphaBitch : KES!!! I still haven’t mailed your gift. shame on me.

  • KillgoreTrout : Saw an article on Yahoo, should romney pick a female VP. I thought, no, too obvious a move to placate women after the damage has been done. Opinions?

  • AlphaBitch : FC: My stated goal and prayer is to die 5 minutes BEFORE Dick Cheney (that way I cannot wish he’d drop dead, which would be my Biff like bitchatude) so that I can watch him when he tries to get into the Pearly Gates. It’d be worth it, but I think my time may be growing short….

  • foodchain : CRAPTURED is a great starting principle

  • AlphaBitch : Blessed are the dumbfucks, AL?

  • AdLib : Bourne – Lungren is in the Santorum league for intellectually limited RWers. It should actually be interesting I’d think.

  • AlphaBitch : Hate to brag, but we provided Perry, Bush, Joke Corndog (John Cornyn) and the Breck Girl Hutchison. Not to mention Louie Gohmert (he’s a Gomer, all right).

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Free Bourne…Bourne Free…..A bumper sticker awaiting your political imprisonment when you take on the West admirer.

  • foodchain : and they fart a LOT

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, I’ll have to check it out.

  • BourneID : I’m planning to go to the next town hall meetng o of my illustrious rep, Dan Lungren, the one who is “fascinated by Allen West. Let you know, that is if I’m not in jail.

  • KillgoreTrout : Yeah, teenagers love to make fart jokes.

  • AlphaBitch : KT: Have you read me and CL’s fave book, Lamb? Joshua (aka Jesus) wanted the beatitude: “BLessed are the dumbfucks, for they shall not be disappointed”. Sums up the GOP to me.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL – yes, all of these conserv organizations are all strung together now. It is big news when one, like the CATO institute resists a Koch Brothers takeover rather than rolling over for them.

  • foodchain : KT, hang out with teen boys and you’d think they are put here to fart around :-)

  • KillgoreTrout : I like Vonnegut’s reply to the question, what is the meaning of existence. He said “We are put here to fart around, and don’t let anyone tell you differently!”

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Bourne- I do my best to stay above the muck at those events but it is not easy or fun.

  • AlphaBitch : FC: My favorite was the word “craptured” – borrowed from Peace Kitten’s article here and with really cool graphics about being kicked off PuffHo. Put it w/ a pix of Palin and the slogan “If I’m elected, you’ll all be CRAPTURED”

  • foodchain : I’m going to make some up saying: “another GOP for Obama” as an influence in my GOP neighborhood

  • BourneID : Love the bumper sticker idea; we shold do that before newt disappears.

  • AdLib : Foodchain – Great suggestion! A bumper sticker contest would be a lot of fun!

  • foodchain : We need a bumper sticker contest

  • KillgoreTrout : I like it AB.

  • AdLib : Murph – Like the rest of the conservative groups, all the NRA has anymore are lies. Obama has done NOTHING anti-gun so they just say that he does and howl that he’s waiting to do the worst anti-gun laws after being re-elected. Who but the already mindless supporters would buy it?

  • AlphaBitch : My favorite bumper sticker (aside from my own, which I make) was “Shut up and dance”.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AB…not so stealthy….My GOP friends love introducing me as their “progressive friend”….let the attempted brainwashing begin.

  • AlphaBitch : KT: That’s a gem! I loved it!

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, I once saw a bumper sticker that read, “whooked on fonics really phucked me up! I thought it was hilarious.

  • AlphaBitch : Murph, you are so stealth. LOVE that!

  • BourneID : Murph, good for you. YOu made not $$ contribution to that jackass. Worse in person? Dear God, can’t imagine worse than he is on TV. Glad you went; first hand is always better, otherwise we have to rely on Fox for info.

  • AlphaBitch : KT: Dallas. I can’t say more. Narcissism in it’s municipal form.

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, not really, he turned out to be an asshole.

  • AlphaBitch : Hey Murph – this will cheer you up! I just found out I’m DAR material. Wow, will they ever be surprised!!!!

  • foodchain : AB, and I thought it was cattle country!

  • AdLib : AB – You are incredibly cool!!! Hope it’s a lovely weekend!

  • AlphaBitch : FC: There is a bumper sticker to the effect: “Foat Wuth, I luv ewe”.

  • AdLib : If you haven’t read my latest post, what do you think about the MSM trying to smear Obama as anti-woman…wit h a quote from a CNN pudnut who has nothing to do with him?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : KT, AB, AL, AND Bourne….Takeaw ays from the NRA convention. LOTS of political lobbying…all anti Obama (who has done little to restrict guns, in fact, very little) as a potential threat (code language for “what is that black guy still hanging around the White House for”)….white folks everywhere….lo ts of gun exhibts…….to ns of petitions to sign…..and many seminars (about how to fight Democrats, how to strengthen state pro gun laws) and Romney who is not a good fit there (so wooden, so phoney, so uninspired)….w orse in person than I could have ever imagined. A GOP friend took me. I paid nothing and joined nothing.

  • AlphaBitch : AL: The Pup lives with us – this is a boy who came over for high school the same year as the Pup. He lived in Alabama. Came back to Austin, where we met. I took care of him for six weeks when he had foot surgery a year ago. He’s a sweetheart, and I’m so glad he’s “back home” in Texas!

  • foodchain : Hey AB, Foat Wuth!!!! Keeper

  • AdLib : AB – Alpha Pup? Say hi from Uncle Adlib!

  • AlphaBitch : KT: You get a medal for befriending anyone from Big D. I luv Foat Wuth, but hates the Dallas.

  • foodchain : Murph, you’re a glutton for punishment

  • AdLib : Murph – Coincidental how they always hold NRA conventions in high crime, high murder cities, huh?

  • KillgoreTrout : Ha AB. I was amazed at how many people were NOT from CA, but migrated there. I had a friend from Dallas.

  • AlphaBitch : We are watching Doomsday and the Mayans on History. Really???

  • AlphaBitch : Nuttin much AL. Got my adopted Afghan son here this weekend from Austin.

  • AdLib : Hey AB!!! What up?!

  • AlphaBitch : KT!! Being a native Texan, we are seldom welcome in any of the “C” states. Do pretty good with the “A” states, though.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : The Convention was held at at the Heart of America Convention Center in downtown St. Louis.

  • foodchain : We were in the Petaluma/Sebasto pol area in the spring–family. Like SF pretty much but cold

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey AB!

  • AdLib : Murph – Any takeaways from the NRA convention?

  • KillgoreTrout : Bourne, back in 86. I am still kicking myself for leaving. Paradise.

  • AlphaBitch : Hey ho heavenly bodies! Popping in briefly to say hi. Weather – what can you do?? (Except be prepared). MURPH: an NRA convention???? Yikes!!

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, I was really surprised when I first moved to the area, how republican it was. Most of it in La Joilla.

  • AdLib : Bourne, yep, very pleased to have a bigger Planet presence up north! Cher and PatsyT help me keep So Cal properly Planetized.

  • BourneID : Murph, where In St.Louis?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : I was at the NRA convention today because I wanted to see Romney and the bagful of nuts who gather at those events. Very depressing.

  • BourneID : KT, Sam Diegois almost too great to believe. When did you leave?

  • KillgoreTrout : Loved to have seen these dominionists standing around Mt. Saint Helens when it blew!

  • AdLib : Killgore – I used to live in San Diego a while back as well! Aside from being more Republican than it should be, a nice town.

  • BourneID : AdLib Found out yesterday CL is from Sacramento and SueinCA lived here but moved down the road closer to SF. CA well represented here.

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, I used to live about 30 miles north of San Diego, and most of our yearly rainfall came in December. Torrents of rain for nearly 3 weeks, then beautiful weather for the next 11 months.

  • AdLib : Hey Foodchain! How are ya?!

  • foodchain : Hi btw everyone

  • foodchain : Really, if the earth is our for fun then why is it doing this?

  • AdLib : Killgore, I thought Man was to have dominion over the Earth. Wish the RR would stand in front of a tornado and try to assert dominion over it.

  • KillgoreTrout : I love Nature, but respect her ability to make us humans look like ants, in the power department.

  • AdLib : Killgore – We’ve been having an ideal Winter out here in LA for the most part, I don’t mind the rain but the storms that do damage to others is messed up.

  • KillgoreTrout : Smart move AdLib.

  • KillgoreTrout : The weather here in central Ohio has been very agreeable lately.

  • AdLib : My weather story is flying out of Louisiana the day before Katrina.

  • AdLib : Doing well Killgore, drying out from today’s rainstorms.

  • KillgoreTrout : I was hit by the tail end of hurricane Irene last summer. A big, fully grown oak tree was snapped like a toothpic. Whew!

  • AdLib : Hey Bourne – Down here in LA, we had hail two days ago and those wicked storms today. The intensity of storms due to climate change couldn’t be more obvious but to the corporate sheep, facts are just the Devil’s work.

  • BourneID : KT. good to see you too.

  • KillgoreTrout : Doing fine AdLib, and you?

  • KillgoreTrout : AdLib, you can be certain he would not be “the man behind the curtain.”

  • AdLib : Hey Killgore! How are you this evening?

  • BourneID : Hey Murph. Weather here is unreal; terrible storms, hair, wind, lightening, very unCalifornia-lik e. At 4pm yesterday, newsbreak warning of storm coming to Fair Oaks and before he finished all hell broke. Today, saw my neighbor who lives directly next door with contractor there. Branch from tree in front broken by wind went through roof and down into his bedroom. Not used to this.

  • AdLib : Heh! I guess Mitt would be the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion all in one, “If I only had a brain, a heart, courage!”

  • KillgoreTrout : Glad to see ya here Bourne!

  • KillgoreTrout : Hi Ho Planeteers!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AL Although given conditions in the world of politics, Oz is looking pretty good. Maybe I can drop a house on Romney.

  • AdLib : Glad you’re safe and sound, Murph!

  • AdLib : Hey Bourne! Welcome!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hey Bourne….my area is still in the ok zone….thanks for the heads up. I use a wonderful weather service called weather underground where the hype is almost completely absent. So I am keeping an eye out. I thank you for your concern.

  • BourneID : This msg is for Mueph. Our news says terrible tornados in store for your area with prospects of many throghout OK, MO, and other states. Brian Williams said Joplin is in line. Are you near? Are you safe? Bourne

  • BourneID : HI AL I’m here; finally figured out how to do it.

  • AdLib : Vox Populi, our live chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7 pm. Hope to see you then!
