• choicelady : Chris – I am about to leave, too. Have a wonderful new year, and let’s all hope it’s better than THIS one. See you in 2012!

  • choicelady : Chris – I agree. The MSM act as if these bozos really had something to SAY! No one ever calls them on their un-Constitutiona l proclamations or anything! Disgusting!

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: I must depart now, I hope you have the merriest celebration tomorrow. I will see you here next week. Please travel safely.

  • ChrisR266 : From what I can gather, he believes Gingrich to be no better than Obama, considers him a fraud conservative.

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: Ha! My husband and best friends are always telling me to open up and tell it how I really feel it, you know? I just am so pissed about the quantity and quality of the coverage these Iowa rubes are getting I could just scream. In fact, I have a few times.

  • choicelady : Chris – do I remember this correctly that Glenn Beck said the ONLY Republican he’d NEVER vote for was Newt? Really? Did he say why?

  • choicelady : Gosh, Chris – you really have to learn not to be so reserved about your feelings! LOL!!! I think you’ve nailed the bastard! I still think he believes there is a bright and winning future ahead and that Iowa is just a pack of rubes, so who cares?

  • ChrisR266 : Oh, Choice, I agree that he never “thinks” he is done, but he knows when the cards are no longer falling in his favor. He’s not stupid. But he is arrogant, haughty, stubborn, unethical, and mean. That more than compensates for the sunny attitude for his chances.

  • choicelady : Chris – it’s about 2 hours and pretty easy. We go down around 4pm well ahead of the drunks, then we stay over, take our hosts out to a great breakfast, and drive back. It’s worked out beautifully for several years. And we always have fun.

  • choicelady : Chris – I don’t know if I’d agree only because I don’t think Newt EVER thinks he’s done! Supposedly he did not really care about Iowa and thinks he’ll pick up the STAR POWER in South Carolina. Of course that little set back of not getting on the VA ballot – VA being where his national HQ is – might discomfit him a tad, but the man’s EGO is beyond huge. I can’t see him EVER admitting defeat!

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: do you have far to travel? I hope it’s not a tiresome trip.

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: I chalked the tears off to pressure–he knows he’s done, and is crumbling while wondering how he can milk the book for more money and speaking engagements. I have absolutely no empathy for the man.

  • choicelady : Chris – that’s a blast! What a great way to spend New Year’s Eve or any other time! Yeah – being childless is great for regaining grown up time and having fun when you feel like it! Marvelous!

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: That’s great! We’re on year 22 (I think that’s what we counted tonight) of having the same 4 couples over to celebrate with dinner, too much alcohol, and lots of merriment. We’re all long time neighbors and close friends who raised our kids together in the houses we still live in, within three blocks of each other–Couldn’t go out when they were little, and now can celebrate how ever the heck we want.

  • choicelady : Chris – yes, we all had seen Newt Shedding Tears. What no one can determine is whether he was crying for his MOTHER or for himself. He tried to explain that this gave him empathy for others – but I’ve notice the GOP do that if and only if whatever affliction is something impacting them. His mom was bi-polar so that matters to him. George Will’s son has Downs syndrome – so he thinks that is the ONLY thing the government should give money to help with.

  • choicelady : Chris – we’re headed out tomorrow with friends and stay overnight so no contending with drunks. It’s always fun even though the husband of another couple is a hair on fire progressive who’d rather whine than hear anything good. Decided to ignore him. He doesn’t WANT to hear anything positive!

  • ChrisR266 : So, did anyone broach the “Newt shedding tears” episode tonight?

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: yes, at times it is. Tonight is one of those times.

  • choicelady : Chris – now that sounds like a perfect evening! Especially listening to the snoring. As often as I’d like to stuff a sock in it, it’s really comforting to hear, isn’t it?

  • choicelady : kes – you’re back! All your chopping done? Is that New Year’s Chopping like Christmas shopping?

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: I’m just glad to read y’all here. Took the husband out for a fine dinner tonight with the best friends, drank too much at the after party, and am home listening to his blessed snoring. Life is good.

  • choicelady : Oh – KQ is back!

  • choicelady : Chris – my pleasure. I suspect at the moment it’s just the two of us. Murph was heading to sleepy-bye land because of a really bad cold. And AdLib is just keeping the line open, so we either carry on or pack it in. I’m fine either way.

  • ChrisR266 : Choice: Bwaaaahahaha! Thanks for the 30 second update.

  • ChrisR266 : Happy New Year, AB.

  • choicelady : AB – LOOK OUT! You’re suffering Brain Anorexia!!!!!

  • choicelady : AB – good luck with fans, and a wonderful New Year for you and yours, too! Be well!

  • choicelady : Chris – mostly Adonai was here pretty much alone for a time. He carried on admirably, but now we came in, and he left. He was hoping for the Rapture, but I can pretty much assure him that he did NOT have that happen. He’s trying to bypass his earthly problems, but I don’t think the Rapture is the answer. After all – he’d be stuck with THEM.

  • AlphaBitch : Okey dokey pokies! I’ve got to go buy some fans. Ceiling, that is….Love and happiness and health and peace to us all this coming year. for real.

  • AlphaBitch : CL: I believe Newt is smart, and Ron Paul isn’t a racist and Bachmann loved those 23 fosters and….and….

  • ChrisR266 : Hi ya all! Tried to start at the beginning and read up, but my attention span won’t tolerate it tonight. So, fill me in, and I hope you are having a merry holiday.

  • choicelady : Hey Chris! Happy New Year!

  • choicelady : AB – if you lose brain cells, you can believe anything you want! Go for it!

  • AlphaBitch : And I should go, too. Hey Chris! Happy New Year to be!!!

  • AlphaBitch : Yep, CL – less brain cells make my jeans fit better. Or at least I think they do!

  • choicelady : Dear Murph – Happy New Year to you, too, and may you feel MUCH better by tomorrow. Get well and enjoy the new year!

  • AlphaBitch : I have to go shop for ceiling fans online since the HD did not have a good enuff inventory.

  • choicelady : AB – if it’s fact free news, does it help you lose weight? You know, as in lost brain cells?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hey folks, my head is starting to ache…so I am going back to bed after taking a Alka Seltzer Cold Rememdy. Nice checking in with you all. HAPPY NEW YEAR…..May old acquaintance…A uld Lang Syne!

  • AlphaBitch : I want to know what other countries are feeding THEIR people as “news”. We know that ours is fact-free!

  • choicelady : AB – KQ checked in briefly, but we’ve not heard anything since. For a brief moment, Adonai was here alone and carried on an AMAZING conversation with himself. But it’s better with more! KQ filled in for about a minute, but we’ve not heard since.

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: i agree. I thought (and still think) it’s a fairly brilliant idea.

  • AlphaBitch : Hey KQuark’s not really here either, huh??

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AB…INN fascinating concept re. news FROM the world not just OF the world (which we still do a pretty poor job of).

  • choicelady : AB – I caught INN at a hotel in Cleveland that catered to people from all around the world coming to the Cleveland Clinic, and it WAS amazing and wonderful!

  • AlphaBitch : CL; Nope. Murph: Sorry – AB is being naughty again. With no AdLib, I tend to go naughty. Better naughty than Newtie, I say!

  • choicelady : Murph – Niblet is what AB calls the head of Lowe’s. She, for some reason, never hears back from him…

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL and AB…just caught up…..Lowe’s. AH HAH! Got it.

  • AlphaBitch : I would love to get Al JAzeera, Murph. I have a great friend who worked in network news production. He always said he’d like to have an INN component – International News Network- where the news is broadcast from different countries (eg – 8PM Russian TV, 9PM Pakistani TV etc) and had a crawl translation so that Americans could see what other countries TRULY report.

  • choicelady : AB – but does Uverse get you AlJezeera? I have tried and tried to get linked ONLINE with their news reports, and I can’t do it. Cannot explain why. I LOVE their news!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL and AB inside joke? Niblet?

  • choicelady : AB – Oh, that’s priceless! But yeah – I can see why Niblet did not reply. But he’ll never forget you either!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AB If I had the ATT Uverse option I would take it. Live in the country. No chance.

  • choicelady : Murph = and you live in a far more stormy area than we (since we’ve not had much rain at ALL much less electrical storms here in CA) So that is all good to know.

  • AlphaBitch : CL: Yep. A little short of the cob, if you know what I mean

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL AB…the best thing about Direct is the customer service. About the best there is. They own their own service unit, not contracted out….operators are very knowledgeable and they do not nickle and dime you.

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: WE just bought a new place, and it came w/ a satellite dish. However, the Blov gets a FANTASTIC deal on Uverse, which we have and can’t refuse. At least for now…

  • choicelady : AB – NIblet? Ya think? Excuse me while I choke laughing!!!

  • AlphaBitch : I wrote Mr. Niblock (I keep calling him Mr. Niblets) and told him why I won’t shop there (I do thousands of dollars of business w/ them each year) and the names of all those who worked directly with me. Heard back nada. Maybe because I call him “Niblet”?

  • choicelady : Murph – that’s good to know, about the content I mean. We will take a look. I do know their range of offerings is better than Dish. But – giving money to Rupert? Ick.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AB Virtually none. Heavy lighting…short term interruption…p robably twice in three years.

  • choicelady : AB. Hmmm. Straw. I think you’re being too kind.

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: Do you have problems with weather interference.

  • choicelady : AB – I’m cutting up my Lowe’s card, too. Their stuff is great, I like their staff, but NO MORE. Home Depot has one advantage – it’s GLBT friendly to staff. But their stuff is not as good, I agree with Blov.

  • AlphaBitch : CL: I call it “straw”.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Direct is part of the Murdoch portfolio…unfo rtunately BUT exercises no control over content or access. Direct is owned by a pretty complex conglomerate.

  • choicelady : AB – I have this issue with Callista and Cindy and blond – that’s NOT blond. I’m not sure what it IS, but it’s a color not know to nature. I have blond friends, their hair is beautiful. I have friends who’ve dyed their hair blond, and it’s fine. THEIR color is – what? Ice. It’s scary awful. Shudder.

  • AlphaBitch : Thanks, CL. Me too. The Pup is the son I would have wanted, and the Damascus girl is the daughter I would have wanted. Both Muslim, one Sunni one Shia, but all absolutely perfect. The Blov is pissed because we won’t shop at Lowe’s anymore (at least I won’t), and the other option (Home Depot) is far away, understaffed and without good merch.

  • choicelady : Murph – is Direct the one Murdoch owns? I get Direct and Dish mixed up.

  • choicelady : AB – I’m so glad Khirad has been able to help! That is the strength of this group of wonderful people. I will send her all good energies and hopes she stays safe and can get here!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL and AB…I have Direct TV

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: Which satellite company do you have?

  • AlphaBitch : CL: That made me laugh! They are two of a kind. Too blond.

  • choicelady : Murph – we are considering getting satellite for EXACTLY that reason!

  • AlphaBitch : BTW: Props to Khirad, for his ever keen eye and ear and advice. We’ve managed to stay in touch through it all.

  • choicelady : AB – I never could see what Newt saw in her or she in him. She is SO cold! And so unattractive. Swear to God – first time I saw them together I thought, “Why is Newt with Cindy McCain?” What is WITH the Ice Queen wives?

  • AlphaBitch : I’m just not sure how willing they will be to let people out. She may come near me, which is my fondest hope and wish.

  • choicelady : Oh AB – I sure hope she can come over! It’s very scary! I have a young friend who went to Egypt to get married Dec. 24, and I hope all went well for her and her intended. They are lovely people, Muslims intending to live here in CA, and I want them back safe and sound!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL I think you do not have satellite. I thought I would hate it. But the news sources are worth the price.

  • AlphaBitch : Newtie’s tired. And he just realized how truly UG Calista’s hair is. I’d cry too

  • choicelady : Murph – those are GREAT choices compared to, well, anything else. We don’t get any of that, so I’m stuck with Iowa or C-Span re-runs of incredibly boring non-events.

  • AlphaBitch : CL: The Blov and I woke up one night at 3AM and it was on. We could not believe it. Horrid stuff, really. But I had to see it again, just to be sure. Yep, I’m sure

  • choicelady : Murph – you did nail it, didn’t you? I caught the replay of the Newt crocodile tears. Hard to say if he was crying for her or himself.

  • AlphaBitch : Murph: That’s the truth

  • AlphaBitch : CL: I have a “daughter” in Syria. We communicate every other week or so, but only postcard/FB type stuff. I’m hoping and praying she’ll be able to come on her Fulbright this fall. Say a prayer!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL- I have been spending a lot of time with Link, Current, BBC and Al Jazeera. The world really is bigger than Iowa.

  • choicelady : Alpha – LOL!!! What on EARTH possessed you to START watching something like that? The title alone is awful! Was it fun?

  • choicelady : Murph – I have mostly STOPPED watching the news since there is only so much I can stand of Iowa caucuses for people I loathe. Watching the inch by inch changes in the polls is making me nuts. Only other issue is Syria, and that’s incredibly depressing.

  • AlphaBitch : Hi CL! We just watched the WORST movie ever – Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill. Don’t really recommend it, but could not look away.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Did anyone see Newt’s sad apologia for his campaign at the Rotary this AM and then his tearful discussion of his Mom’s illness…rememb er my article in early December? Pretty much on schedule.

  • choicelady : Hey AlphBitch – come on down! Nice to see you in the balcony!

  • choicelady : Murph – Adonai was telling a very funny story about believing in the Rapture and burning his bridges a weeee bit too early! Poor guy – he did not go. I think we all warned him.

  • choicelady : Wow – everyone is feeling punk tonight. So sorry! I’m finally getting better with the cold almost gone and the back actually functional and mostly pain free. I’d feel guilty if I weren’t so relieved! KQ and Murph – hope you feel better immediately!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL- Rapture? I see we are into heavy, deep and real tonight. Mostly I have been ill the last two days. Been watching lots of news. Can’t read through watery eyes, but tonight after sleeping for several hours. I am better. Won’t push it though.

  • choicelady : KQ – you, too. I have great hopes for 2012 and the Planeteers. Hope your new year is a great one!

  • choicelady : Hey KQ – GREAT to see you!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Everyone have a great New Year if I don’t cya.

  • choicelady : Hi Murph – well, Adonai was just saying he has woes and was hoping for the Rapture to get OUT of them. But I fear he might not make the cut, so to speak. So he decided to go to bed instead. How are you other than a bad cold? Sorry about that – seems to be going around!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Hello to you Murph as well.

  • choicelady : Adonai – I will look for your message in the ether! Cloud formations maybe? I’ll keep my eyes open! Let us know how it goes. If YOU go. Otherwise, happy GROUNDED New Year!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Hi CL got a bit of a head ache but I still wanted to say hi.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hey all. Know AdLib is not here tonight. Better late than never. Have a bad head cold. Just woke up. Anything hot?

  • choicelady : Hey – I see Murph up there! Welcome! Adonai was just leaving. Come on down y’all!

  • ADONAI : I;ll drop you a text from the Beyond :)

  • choicelady : Good night, Adonai. Be well!

  • choicelady : Adonai – I think I will check off, too. Work to do getting ready for NY Eve and all. Have a great New Year and we will “see” you next week I hope! Be well. Send back a note if you get swooped up. We’d miss you!

  • ADONAI : HA! Indeed. Good night choice. Happy New Year’s

  • choicelady : Adonai – oh, good. We’re having a ridiculous conversation, and Google is crawling. PlanetPOV deserves better than that, I think!

  • ADONAI : Not raptured but I am on my way out. I got to get up early in the morning. I hate to leave you alone. Hope yo have a wonderful New Year my friend

  • choicelady : Oh good – you’re still here. Well, I don’t know if JFK is with Satan or not. I’d think the good he did on earth would at least get him to purgatory. That womanizing thing is not a grievous sin after all…

  • choicelady : Adonai? Are you there? ‘Cause if you’re NOT, just let me know if you got Raptured will you? I’d feel foolish waiting for you to reply if you’re gone to the Great Beyond.

  • ADONAI : I am screwed aren’t I? Maybe I can get JFK to put in a good word for me to Satan

  • choicelady : Adonai – I fear the imaginary place in the sky is not your lot in life. They claim they have standards, but I think those apply to people like you and not the rest of them. After all, they think, since they’re “born again” they can do anything they want, but you? You’re screwed.

  • ADONAI : I wasn’t thinking straight! I thought for sure we were all going to an imaginary palace in the sky!

  • choicelady : Ad – not strategic. Not strategic at ALL. Sorry!

  • ADONAI : he didn’t know at all til I e-mailed him the picture

  • choicelady : Ad – does your boss know it was YOU who did the spray painting? If not – can you keep it secret?

  • choicelady : Adonai – Hmmm. You may have a point. I’m not thinking your rehiring is looking good.

  • ADONAI : HA! It happens sometimes.

  • choicelady : Adonai – I’m not sure the Rapture is your answer. Then you’d have to be with THEM!

  • choicelady : Adonai – I see you’ve held up beautifully alone. But you seem to be beside yourself…

  • ADONAI : Yeah but surely those were just people pretending it was the Rapture. I mean, I’m $45,000 in debt. I divorced my wife. I NEED the rapture

  • ADONAI : No, that was cancelled. remember?

  • ADONAI : Why the coming rapture of course! The end of Time and the blessed ascension to the Heavens!

  • ADONAI : News about what?

  • ADONAI : so, you have good news I take it?

  • ADONAI : and hello to yo Adonai

  • choicelady : Adonai – it doesn’t taste of eggplant. It’s there mostly for a certain consistency that is lovely. The red peppers and garlic predominate, and it’s just delish.

  • ADONAI : It’s cool. I can handle this. well hello again Adonai!

  • choicelady : OK all you folks hiding up there in the balcony – c’mon down! I have to step away, and SOMEONE needs to talk with Adonai til I get back!

  • ADONAI : Not a big fan of egg plant but it does sound good

  • choicelady : kes – G’night – happy open house and wonderful new year!

  • ADONAI : Nite kes! Don’t let those egg rolls beat you!

  • choicelady : Adonai – it’s eggplant, red peppers, garlic and olive oil all blended. Actually I’m combining a Bulgarian and Croat recipe (they are not at war, so I’m feeling OK about this.) You eat it on brown bread or crackers. It IS good.

  • kesmarn : Absolutely! G’night, friends, and that includes you guys up there lurking in the balcony!! Love ya! :-)

  • choicelady : kes – I’ll be right there! I think the dip will go with the eggrolls!

  • kesmarn : Oooooh, does that sound good, c’lady! I do homemade egg rolls every year and have kinda an open house. C’mon over!

  • choicelady : Adonai – now that is a very clear assessment – knowing history in order to destroy it. Newt surely does do that!

  • ADONAI : Bulgarian garlic dip?

  • choicelady : kes – have a GLORIOUS New Year’s Eve and a wonderful 2012. Are you staying in or going out? Whatever, sorry you have all that chopping ahead. I have a dip to make, Bulgarian garlic spread/dip so tomorrow I roast veggies then blend the bejezzus out of ’em until they’re smooth. I wish you well! Mine is the path of less resistance!

  • kesmarn : There it is, c’lady. You have to be able to communicate. And AD, yes, Gingrich — as one analyst said — cannot resist pushing ANY argument into total hyperbole and making inflammatory statements. Does not a good historian make.

  • ADONAI : Gingrich could have learned history. Could have done very well. Could have been a great teacher. paid to teach. But he warps historical facts to suit arguments. he takes sides on two sided issues and argues his side. The problem is that his side has been consistently historically incorrect. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t know history. In fact, to distort it the way he does, he must know it very well. But I do too, and I call bullshit.

  • choicelady : kes – I took stat from a clueless PhD and the only reason I passed and did well is because my neighbor was the grad assistant and taught me all the stat I needed in ONE NIGHT that I’d not learned from the prof in the whole previous 12 weeks. The prof was simply incapable of explaining anything clearly and the grad assistant was brilliant AND a good teacher.

  • kesmarn : Uh-oh, here it is 11 o’clock and I still have to chop-chop-chop all these veggies for New Years Eve. I promised myself just half and hour on Vox… Oops. But –anyhoo — yes, c’lady, some people do work incredibly hard for their degrees and other just seem to churn out “blah-blah” and get the prize. Newtie’s in the latter I think.

  • choicelady : As one who took orals but never wrote the dissertation, I know it’s hard. I ALSO know a number of people who wrote the most minimal, inconsequential, irrelevant crap and simply got a PhD via rubber stamp for going through the motions. I would hope Tulane was not that much of a pushover, but you never know. His writings since then reflect NO intellectual grounding or acumen.

  • kesmarn : I’m amazed at some of the people who have managed to buy PhDs, AD. This past semester, my son had to teach a whole math class because the PhD instructor was clueless about the material. Head scratcher, that one!

  • kesmarn : She is a cold, cold woman, c’lady. As I’m sure her kids can attest.

  • choicelady : kes – Biden was magnificent. And when, in that heart-breaking moment he reflected on the loss of his son – that bitch never even offered a word of sympathy! I think she lost on policy points, but I think she DIED with the public on her lack of compassion.

  • ADONAI : Gingrich points to his academic credentials. he got a Ph. D in history and all that from Tulane then actually taught history for awhile. No one ever asked if he was any good

  • kesmarn : c’lady, he frequently refers to himself as a “professor” these days. I suppose to the intellectually challenged, that sounds “purty smart.”

  • choicelady : kes – Just another Newt Delusion. You always have to pump yourself up when you KNOW you won’t be called out on your brag. But man – I’d love to see that: Obama vs. Gingrich. Whoooo.

  • kesmarn : I remember when Biden went up against Palin. He was so gracious. Did a great job of pretending to take her seriously and not laughing in her face.

  • choicelady : Anyone – where did the myth that Newt is an “intellectual” come from? He distorts every issue, gets facts totally wrong, and perverts every version of history and social inquiry. How DOES someone like that get that label? Just ’cause he’s GLIB? Man – does this nation have low standards!

  • ADONAI : The President would destroy him in every debate. it’d be sad to watch

  • kesmarn : Both of you nailed it. He’s a self-loathing, phony, blow-hard. The thing that irritates me is when he implies PBO is “afraid” to debate him. Puh-leeze.

  • choicelady : Adonai – I agree (and I am educated as an historian) that he has yet to say anything accurate. He just makes stuff up to the point that Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin look intellectual even in their gaffs.

  • choicelady : kes – self loathing is a marvelous thing. He cried today because she was untreated bi-polar. Question is – crying for HER or for himself? Self hating people are scary dangerous in their reactions against people with the same conditions and traits.

  • ADONAI : And about the myth of “Gingrich the historian”. I have yet to hear the man say one historically accurate thing in context.

  • kesmarn : I stand corrected, c’lady. He wouldn’t waste pre-college courses on {{dog whistle}} “Poor Kids”.

  • choicelady : kes – Just means we see Newt EXACTLY for who he is!

  • kesmarn : The bizarre thing is he is the son of a 16 year old single mother. WTF?

  • choicelady : Oh kes – you are far too generous. No kid in Newt’s Orphanage would be allowed college-oriented studies! Nope the kid would be called to fix the boiler between auto mechanics and potato peeling 101.

  • ADONAI : And the schools need more than a spit shine. They need serious attention. The kind he seems bored to tears with.

  • kesmarn : Jinx! On the Oliver Twist, c’lady!

  • kesmarn : Yes, I can just imagine Gingrich’s little Oliver Twist trying to fix the boiler in his run-down school between French class and Algebra II.

  • ADONAI : HA!

  • choicelady : Adonai – remember Gingrich was the one back in the 90s who wanted to open up orphanages and put THOSE kids to work maintaining them. He seems to be channeling his inner Beadle looking for an Oliver Twist.

  • choicelady : Adonai – I agree Boehner would not ask anyone if they want to party. He’s too selfish! He’d get stoned alone and then come out and cry. Eeeuuuuwwww.

  • kesmarn : Yesssss…can you imagine if Hillary Clinton had done what Scotty did? Somehow I don’t think that poor college kid excuse would have flown.

  • ADONAI : I still can’t get over Gingrich actually suggesting we put children to work instead of actually improving their standard of living.

  • choicelady : kes – OMG – PLEASE let’s all pray there are NO nude photos of Boehner!!!

  • choicelady : kes – well, with Scott Brown, that work for money thing left us all knowing more about him than we ever wanted!

  • ADONAI : I see where you’re going but I really can’t picture Boehner standing on a street corner asking people if they “Want to party

  • kesmarn : Hah! Yes, CL — how FAR did that “anything for a buck” “work ethic” go, exactly?

  • choicelady : kes – oh no! I fear if Boehner released his inner hippie he’d get stoned and cry all the more! PLEASE! Not that!

  • kesmarn : Boehner should let go and release his inner hippie. That would turn off the tear fountain.

  • choicelady : kes – while that drumbeat of “I worked hard at lousy jobs and did whatever I had to to make a buck” has some important lessons on perserverance, it ALSO should make people wonder: “You did ANYTHING for money? Just anything at ALL? Hmmmm.”

  • ADONAI : I hope so to choice.

  • kesmarn : ‘Zactly, c’lady. Very easily manipulated. And extremely money-hungry. I think he will do almost anything for a buck. He always brags that in college, he DID do any and everything to make $$$.

  • ADONAI : The Tea Party messed up Boehner big time. And the hilarious part is he basically asked for it

  • choicelady : Adonai – I am hoping 2012 will be sooooo much better for our nation than 2011 has been. I feel as if people are like Rip Van Winkle, arising from a 100 year sleep and s-l-o-w-l-y waking to reality. At least I hope so!

  • choicelady : kes – YES!!! “Rinse, repeat” is indeed the alcoholic way! Or ANY self destructive mode. Boehner does occasinally give glimmers of policy and self awareness – and then self destructs. I think of him as someone who always listens to the last person he talked to – and the Baggers make sure it’s one of them.

  • ADONAI : as well as can be expected choice, thank you. How about yourself? Ready for the new year?

  • kesmarn : I think it does, c’lady. I think the whole thing goes together…feel unworthy…drink …act stupid…feel unworthy…rinse …repeat…

  • choicelady : Hi Adonai – how are you this last but one day of 2011?

  • ADONAI : Hello choice! Happy New Year!

  • choicelady : kes – I’m not being snotty. I seriously believe Boehner is an alcoholic, and I think it impairs his abilities on all levels.

  • kesmarn : YAY! C’lady! Happy New Year!

  • ADONAI : HA! maybe that explains the drinking.

  • choicelady : Evening everyone! Happy New Year!

  • kesmarn : I think Boehner has a self-destructive side that even he is unaware of. He doesn’t think he deserves success. The sad thing is, he’s right.

  • ADONAI : even members of his own Party are turning on him. And I agree about playing as though you were behind. Never lose your edge.

  • ADONAI : Boehner confounds me. it’s only been a few months since he won some political capital in the debt ceiling farce but he’s already blown all of it. He went from a political force you at least ha do recognize to possibly losing his job.

  • kesmarn : Still — the American people have been known to do some very weird things. We have to play as hard as if we were 10 points behind.

  • kesmarn : Oh yeah, Bachmann totally had that coming. It figures she would attract people with that level of “loyalty.” They really have no one, and Boehner and Cantor just made total fools of themselves over the tax cut extension, too. That doesn’t help the GOP image.

  • ADONAI : And Bachmann can’t get enough bad news as far as I;m concerned. She needs to be brought down a peg. They all do.

  • ADONAI : It’s hard to not get over confident when you’re projected by such a wide margin so early. It’s almost ridiculous. They haven’t even picked a nominee yet and it’s almost over.

  • kesmarn : Bachmann’s campaign director jumping ship was the funniest thing that happened all week. Ouch. That had to hurt. Good to hear about those projections. If only people don’t get over-confident now…

  • ADONAI : HA! That fits so perfectly. But it doesn’t really matter. They don’t have anyone running who could beat Obama. He’s projected to win by a landslide against each “top” republican candidate.

  • kesmarn : Yeah, there was a commentator on PBS tonight who said they went through most of the 5 stages of grief over Romney before arriving at “acceptance.”

  • ADONAI : wasn’t ti really only a matter of time before Newt faded? As much as they hate to admit it, Mitt is their guy.

  • kesmarn : Plum wine is good, but I think sake would work better. I love the taste of it. Too bad it give me a headache, even at relatively low dosages. How ’bout that GOP in Iowa? Newtie wept, I hear.

  • ADONAI : Indeed. good luck putting those together. And I would go with sake but only because I’ve never had plum wine before.

  • kesmarn : Home here, too. I’m going to make egg rolls from scratch. Kinda labor-intensive, so I only do it once a year. I should look for some plum wine or sake to go with, though…

  • ADONAI : Not this year. I got stuff I need to do around the house tomorrow and I just don’t feel like going out.

  • kesmarn : I think that about sums up their recipe, AD. Plans for New Year’s Eve?

  • ADONAI : Happy New Year, kes! And my guess would be sunshine, rainbows, and tons and tons of sugar

  • kesmarn : Happy New Year, all! I had a hot fudge walnut brownie sundae 7 hours ago and my blood sugar is still in the stratosphere. What does Steak ‘n’ Shake put in those things?

  • ADONAI : so you think there’s actually sugar in your blood? cause it tastes awful salty

  • ADONAI : Well that’s good. I can’t really have candy. Makes me crazy. Messes with my blood sugar.

  • ADONAI : Me? I;m fine. Had some mini Twix bars. Delicious.

  • ADONAI : How are you this evening?

  • ADONAI : QUESTION #1

  • AlphaBitch : Happy Happy to all! I spent the day singing the praises of POV to friends from DC, and then linking them to some of my favorite stories. I’m sure they will become converts (or preverts – but definitely NOT perverts). My keyboard is messed up and refuses to type vowels or spaces, unless I type REAL slow. AARRGGHH! So it’s off to watch “Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!” with the Pup and the Blov.

  • choicelady : We will miss you, AdLib – but it’s nice you’re well enough to imbibe. Or not to care. Whichever.
