The GOP’s superficial message to Americans is, “Government is your enemy, trust us, we are the government, we should know.”

It is easy to boil down what their real motivations are, further siphoning tax money and public wealth into the hands of the wealthy and the only way to do that is to prevent it from being spent on or provided to the other 99.5% of the nation.

But this can be taken a step farther, to envision what the U.S. would be like if the GOP prevailed on everything they want. In such a country:

a. Taxes would be paid primarily by the vanishing middle class as they are diminished into more of an indentured  lower-middle class.

b.  Corporations would be unregulated and openly allowed to own our government.

c. Social Security would be privatized and when the next crash comes, seniors dependent on it will be left without any way to pay for their needs.

d. HCR would be repealed, Medicare would be ended and transferred to HC corporations, taking over all HC.

e. The internet would be controlled by corporations. Sites and content they viewed as favorable would be offered faster and wider access, sites and content not favored (especially any viewed as anti-corporate) could be blocked, have their traffic choked down to a trickle or have a toll booth attached that forces viewers to pay to even see it.

f. Spending on education would be slashed and public education would be shut down to turn it into being privatized, with private entities deciding what political and religious beliefs are substituted for facts, science and history.

g. Infrastructure spending would be slashed, highways and bridges would continue to disintegrate across the country.

h. Spending on an alternate fuels industry (that could revive the U.S. as a manufacturer of products that sell worldwide) would be killed in favor of financing more oil drilling, fracturing of the Earth’s crust for natural gas extraction and nuclear plants.

i. Unions would be disbanded, the minimum wage would be eliminated or hugely reduced to force wages down. An immigration policy would be passed that oppresses and terrorizes immigrants while exploiting them as ultra-low-paid workers for corporations.

j. The 14th Amendment would be repealed, people could be arrested if they don’t provide their residency/citizenship papers to law enforcement, abortion would be outlawed, an amendment outlawing gay marriage and rights would be passed.

And much more…

If the Dems want to have a strong showing in Nov, they should fight the Repubs on it being about what have the Dems done by focusing on what the Repubs would do.

Is there any need to wonder what Republicans in power means? Is this a preview of your state’s budget? Similar corporation tax cuts and raises in property and sales taxes occurred in AZ. They wanted to cut education more but they ere at point if they made more state cuts, we would lose Federal funding.

….his budget proposal this year refused to extend a tax on earners over $400,000

Yeah Buddy, those R’s in AZ are a bunch of frightened little scared kittens. Ole Bill McCollum, who is running for governor (and down in the polls), is “gonna show em how to gitt’er done.”

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum unveiled a proposed bill Wednesday that would require police officers to verify a suspect’s immigration status during all lawful stops, detentions and arrests when reasonable suspicion exists.

“Arizona is going to want this law,” said McCollum. “We’re better, we’re stronger, we’re tougher and we’re fairer.”

McCollum’s proposal differs from the Arizona law in that it would allow judges to consider immigration status when setting a bond. Illegal immigrants would also face stiffer criminal sentences than legal residents who committed the same crime. Unlike the Arizona law, citizens would not be able to sue law enforcement agencies for not enforcing the law. Instead, that watchdog role would fall to the state attorney general.

Boy-Oh-Boy, this should help their tourism, one of the largest money makers in the state. “Little Havana/South America” in Miami area will be holding celebrations about this law–until they get arrested.

The plot as well as the sheep dip and cow dip thickens,

Ted Stevens was nobody’s fool. He was well aware what Palin had done to him. When I spoke with Stevens last summer in the aftermath of Palin’s resignation as governor, Stevens described her as “an opportunist” and “thin-skinned.” While he refused to speak on the record about his personal relationship with Palin, one got the sense that he felt profoundly betrayed by her in recent years. He clearly did not trust her. It was precisely the same sense of disgust and disdain that I felt from Hickel and other Republican Party elders whom I interviewed in Alaska over the last 18 months. Loyalty was clearly not her strong suit.

Tax breaks for the wealthy never built a bridge or an airport. They never increased American productivity by reducing traffic congestion, increasing broadband service, or creating a modern energy grid. The most fundamental step in boosting our economy is to get American workers back on the job. Getting people back to work affects the momentum of the economy, which ultimately creates the cycle of private-sector job creation that we need.

Why is this true even though it creates massive budget deficits that the republicans say don’t need to be paid for? Because wealthy people simply take the money they get in tax cuts and buy treasury bonds that are used to finance government debt. Then the middle class pays the taxes to pay the interest back to the wealthy own the government bonds they own. A ponzi scheme to make Bernie Madoff proud.

Mr. Ogelsby (from the Obama Admin.) struck that same chord yesterday. He also mentioned one of my favorite questions.
If the tax breaks for the wealthy are needed to create jobs, and they are getting those tax breaks now, why are they not creating jobs? Same thing with all the breaks on corporations. Why are they hoarding their monies in Treasury bonds? and not creating jobs and goods? Over a Trillion dollars I read?

It wasn’t enough that since 1980 the republicans developed and honed their strategy of whittling away the wealth of the American middle class. Now they have decided to play brinksmanship and put 95% of the population in danger of domestic insurrection. They decided on this path within minutes after Barack Obama was elected in 2008. Even though the nation was in the middle of the deepest economic downturn since 1930-1940. Now, the republican leadership in congrees thinks they will win back control of congress and bombard President Obama with legislation that will further erode the wealth of the middle class. This is brinksmanship that will bring this nation to the edge of the abyss.

Think Tom Toles has it figured out about the GOP?

And so few words needed.

AdLib – I don’t have to imagine what it would be like if the Republicans get back into power, because we in Arizona are living it.

Perhaps other Arizonans might disagree with me, maybe those up in Flagstaff or those down in Tucson, but for those of us in Pinal County and Maricopa County, we are living it.

And it’s only going to get worse.

Sheriff Joe already has ads for his re-election in 2012.

Yup, you read that right.

My husband thinks that Sheriff Joe is running the ads for 2 reasons.

First – he’s under a grand jury investigation for abuse of power and he did lose support until Brewer signed the SB1070 and now he’s more popular than ever.

Secondly – in his ads for 2012, he is attacking all of those who are against SB1070 and his infamous roundups, including a former attorney general of the state that is a Republican – Rick Romley – who is now running for Attorney General of Maricopa County – and Romley has never been a friend to Sheriff Joe.

The Tea Party is supposed to stand for Taxed Enough Already – yet Brewer has increased our sales tax, and snuck in an increase in our property tax while giving 2 massive tax cuts to corporate property tax and state tax.

The hate in this state runs high.

Dan Quayle’s son is running and Dan – Mr. PotatoE – lives in Paradise Valley and his son is running and his campaign ad declares Obama the worst president in history.

There is nothing more than that other than him saying that he is an Arizona native and he was raised RIGHT.

There is a bit of fun between McCain and Hayworth, but even though Arizona Republicans still hate McCain for being too liberal and mavericky, they prefer him over Hayworth.

We have the most liberal gun laws in the country and to be fair, so does ‘liberal’ Vermont.

We have Sheriff Joe that arrests Mexicans, legal or not, and the female inmates that are pregnant and who choose to carry their babies to term and deliver – they are chained to the bed during delivery against the doctor’s advise and a male guard stands guard while the woman gives birth.
Because you never know – them Mexicans just drop them babies here and they might take off.

And women in Sheriff Joe’s jails who want an abortion, well, Sheriff Joe withholds taking them to an abortion clinic until they are beyond the 1st trimester and well into their 2nd, so the abortion is more painful, and of course, he has male guards watching the chained prisoner in writhing pain.

You want to know what total Republican rule looks like?

Move to Phoenix.

Question: If “socialized” (their word, not mine) medicine is so bad, then why the heck do Canadians outlive us? And why aren’t Canadians infiltrating our borders to “drop and leave”? Don’t they want their babies to be “Americans”, too, if our standard of life is so much better than theirs? Maybe the drop and leave will be my new self made bumper sticker./////

Please. I can’t take anymore of this. In any normal election, this guy would be laughed at. But this isn’t normal. Not even half normal.

the thing is to find a truth which is true for me, to find the idea for which I can live and die. …

Looks like only the rabid came out to vote in the R’s primary in CO. Both the party backed candidates for governor and senate lost.
This from PPP: http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/

Hickenlooper leads Maes 50-38. He’s getting 88% of the Democratic vote while Maes receives only 74% of the Republican vote and beyond that he has a 52-29 advantage with independents.

When you throw Tom Tancredo into the mix as a third party candidate Hickenlooper’s lead becomes even wider. He gets 48% to 23% for Tancredo and 22% for Maes. Maes would still lead Tancredo with Republicans 48-32 but support for Maes from independents would nearly evaporate with Hickenlooper getting 46%, Tancredo 32, and Maes only 13%.

And it doesn’t look like the R’s party regulars are any too happy! This from the Denver Post:

“Maes treated to silence from GOP after gubernatorial primary win”

But like you say Dilden, in a normal year this guy would have been laughed off the stage. “Bicycles are a ‘Worldwide Commie Plot!’ let me be your Governor and I will put a stop to this.”

And exactly how do the Senate R’s plan to keep the Bush tax cuts?? How will they be paid? Oh, I forgot, they say they don’t have to be paid for at all, but then why did they vote for this bill instructing cuts?

Last week, 42 senators voted for a proposal by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) to permanently extend all of the Bush income tax rate cuts while cutting programs to pay for it (though they didn

It’s very clear to me that the republicans are seeing things from a fantasy world. If reality is a pig, the republicans in this election are selling a pig in a poke.

Of course there are very few of them, one lives in hope, but honestly – doesn’t Boehner have a place in this great nation working for golfing orange people? How CAN you be so insensitive?
