The Daily Planet, Vol. 67

Chernynkaya, your post on the Oregon school situation lets me know that these republicans are going back to an old paradigm from the southern past. That State Senator from OK comments and attack on affirmative action is where the republican party is going to push and promote throughout the 2012 election campaign. Despite all the South’s psychosis, they did recognize that knowledge is power. That is why they offered the bare minimum of education to blacks living in the south and absolutely why they denied slaves the opportunity to learn to read and write. Today, they will attack affirmative action, not because some unqualified black got a position, but because a qualified black can now compete. Obama’s accomplishments sears their brain. They know that affirmative action enhanced his ability to get in the arena, that his natural talents moved him through. They just don’t want blacks on the field. It’s that simple.

Is Donald Trump a Stalking Horse?

Yes, Chris was excellent. I wish he had asked why this became an issue since it has never been one before.

As an African American, I am disgusted that white hate and stupidity has forced a duly elected President to prove he was born in this country. I know all whites are not guilty of this so I am not talking about all whites. The whites who are so wrapped up in being white and superior they absolutely cannot concede that a black person has any worth, these are the folk I speak of. This is so sad.
I sure hope Jeb Bush would not be foolish enough to run after what his idiotic brother destroyed. I hope the economy continues to improve so even a Mitch Daniels wouldn’t stand a chance.

Southern Discomfort – Code Red

Hello former neighbor, I live in North-Central Mississippi. I was 9/10 when the civil rights movement came to my town. I was aware of what went on and the picture wasn’t pretty. You mention a ‘code’, well it is still here. It has taken a while for the Republicans to get a firm foot hold in Mississippi since the time of Goldwater, but I think they have finally accomplished their goal. Local and statewide elections are being won more and more by republicans. Any national republican with a conscious should begin to feel uneasy as they are now connected with the old Bilboa coalition of the old southern Democratic Party. Irony of ironies, the party of Lincoln now is kept apace by the descendants of the people who supported secession. Thank you for your account of how you were raised. Sometime last year, I saw a link to the story about the Knight family, interesting. When one thinks of it logically, segregation was so silly and contradictory. My experience and view is from a black perspective.

Invite For Collaboration Part 2:

I think Arianna thought Obama would need her advice and because he didn’t she decided to bash him through her ever so focused attention on Geithner. She gets to keep her bucks because of Geithner’s actions; even though, some of us disagreed with some of what he was doing, he could never do a thing to please Arianna.
I appreciate your acknowledging what the President is doing. Obama is not one to toot his horn, only fair historians will record his remarkable accomplishments.

The Disposable Daughter

I enjoyed reading this piece. It’s through stories like this that I am reminded to treat all people with dignity and humanity at all times.

The Heart of Lisa Ling

Thank you for bringing our attention to this. I saw Lisa Ling on O’Donnell’s show discussing this. She led you to believe that the guy might have walked again, I know she was just promoting her show. I’m happy to find out on this blog what actually happened.

Agreed, the emphasis should have been on failure to produce the promised miracle. It should have been on the power of the mind to delude us into believing when we witness obvious failure. I posted this from my HTC, is that cool or what? The blog is blocked on my network at my job.

Bill Maher’s Big Lie Contribution?

Obama’s falseness, how did you come to that conclusion?
I know Truman was a Senator when World War 2 began, but did what you just attribute to him actually happen?

Just curious, what was Dr. West’s response? I can’t see him allowing that assertion to go unchallenged.

Mental instability is rampant among black republicans. He reminds me of the David Chappell character that played the blind black man who was a Klansman because he couldn’t see that he was black. It’s so nice not to have to use underscores before a word.

They really think they own the country.

» Posted By smit9187 On February 13, 2011 @ 5:37 pm

They certainly don’t speak for me. It saddened me at the time over on HP when disgruntled progressives were posting things that were poisoning the well, at the most, discouraging political novices, many of the posters were political novices themselves, from voting. The non-voters placed the country in a precarious position. Those republican budget cuts are targeting the poor. We can’t afford to be one issue voters or become distracted and give up because we don’t get all we want.

An HP Moderator Replies

That’s what I’ve been doing, not so much in protest, but more because of the last part of your sentence. It’s really sad.

Well posting there always revealed their inconsistencies, that’s for sure.

» Posted By smit9187 On February 13, 2011 @ 5:15 pm

Hey MIVOTE, we certainly do. Those people at HP ruined a perfectly good set-up. They will reap what they’ve sown and it won’t be good.

» Posted By smit9187 On February 13, 2011 @ 5:14 pm

Your point is well made. For me, it’s the censorship that is/was bothersome. I’ve made posts, that in my opinion, were excellent critiques of the Republican party and their policies and they would be removed, not even sent pending, removed as soon as I’d click post. That was a moderator reading in real time and obviously didn’t want the truth revealed. I had that happen to me numerous times. There is something shady going on over there for sure.

A Short List of Pres. Obama’s Accomplishments

Good quote, quite apropos.

» Posted By smit9187 On February 13, 2011 @ 12:59 pm

It does seem so many expect miracles from this President. I am proud of all he’s been able to do in the face of the vicious opposition he’s confronted. When in the history of this country did the entire body of one body refuse to work with the other party or the President as they did in the House? When was there such poor participation from some in the Senate in working with the opposition party or the President. It’s as if they listened to Rush’s desire that the President fails even at the expense of the rest of the country? This actually goes deeper than party politics, if Obama succeeds, many myths about black people will have been obliterated. I think it’s far more detrimental to their ideology to allow him success, their Southern strategy will be just that, only the idiots in the South will stay with the Republicans.

Following the Rightwing Fashion?

Thank you for your timely thoughts. While I usually like Maher’s humor, he has turned me off with his Obama bashing. These people love money and they realize they make more if they can entice Republicans to come on their shows or websites; in Arianna’s case. She completely ruined a community by making it possible for all those nameless trolls to come there to spill their lies and venom. From what you described, I don’t get HBO, Maher is a suck-up.
