Time Out for O/T – Vol. 2

Good question, nellie, and I’m sorry to say I really can’t answer.

Glad, though, that Noam Chomsky is still going strong.

Sad news: Howard Zinn has passed away ~

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100128/ap_en_ot/us_obit_zinn_2

We’ve lost a good one, and DemocracyNow! will never the same 🙁 But he did have a long and fruitful life, and was an important voice in our corner.

R.I.P. Professor Zinn

G’morning, all! I’m looking to raise funds to make another donation for Haiti to Doctors Without Borders. Read here for how you can help me do it:

http://jan4geo-glow.blogspot.com/2010/01/help-me-help-haitian-relief-effort.html

and if I meet my goal, I’ll also donate $5 to this site’s fundraising, and help save Mr. Fluffywuvers 🙂

She sure did – even Rachel commented on her “spot-on” impersonation 🙂

Help me help Haiti: I’ve joined with other Etsy sellers to donate a portion of my proceeds to Haiti earthquake relief. I’ll donate from every afghan I sell by January 31st to Doctors Without Borders. You can see what I have, and all the details, here ~

http://EclecticaByJan.etsy.com

PS: I hope I don’t get dissed for being “too commercial.” The fact is, I just can’t afford to donate unless I get some income – and I’d really like to (donate, that is; also I need income 🙂

The article I posted just below here has the link !

Thanks – it’s good to know who’s fighting for REAL democracy. I found this link from my Congressman, Martin Heinrich, who’s definitely in our corner ~

Rachel ripped that contractor a new one last night ~

I hope so. I read late last night that the unions are gearing up for massive GOTV efforts. If nothing else, the media coverage of Scott “curling iron” Brown has alerted people to what kind of throwback could take over if we let complacency reign!

That being said, I (like Khirad in another thread) am royally PO’d for Coakley’s lackadaisical campaign, and the Dem’s complacency in general. Not to forget, the fair-weather progs’ “Obama hasn’t done anything” and the ‘tarians “vote out the incumbents” yadda yadda … what will it take to get Americans any kind of clue as to what governance really requires?

Somebody please reply. I’m kind of upset with today’s election news, and I need a hug…

» Posted By jan4insight On January 19, 2010 @ 11:19 am

That’s unfortunately a pattern with the left. I remember the same thing happening with Clinton in his first year. The Dem party is a big tent with multiple interests, and the prog’s in general, perhaps because of their penchant for idealism, have a really poor grasp of political process and strategy.

And then there’s the whiners. Taken as whole, there’s a lot of folks I identify with politically, but that I would not want to have to depend on in a foxhole!

» Posted By jan4insight On January 18, 2010 @ 5:56 pm

Sorry I meant to post on the O/T thread and I don’t know how to move it. And, I gotta sign off but will check back later to see if anyone notices.

Just a quick note from that other site, where I’ve been spending a lot of time following the Haiti: a more positive way to combat the trolls, and it seems to be working:

For any HP’ers just joining us, please feel free to respond to troII comments with a website link site, that is helping out the people of Haiti. There are quite few organizations to choose from. Look below, you’ll see many different ones.

This is much better than waiting for mawds to scrub their snarky hateful comments! Much more effective.

If you’re a blogger, or you know someone who is, here’s another small way to help those who are looking for their loved ones:

he State Dept’s person-finder web page serves as a clearinghouse for those seeking loved ones who are still unaccounted for in this terrible tragedy. Now Google has created a widget that you can embed into your site to help get the word out:

http://haiticrisis.appspot.com/embed?small=yes

I’ve already added it to my blog, which is linked here in my member bio.

Time Out for OT – Vol 3

Sue, the NM process to write the legislation began over a year ago. It was acknowledged that HuffPo gave a push to the effort, but it certainly was not a case of the state jumping on a bandwagon. I’m as disturbed by the anti-HP bias on this site as I am about bias anywhere. This convinces me even more that I’m not a good fit here.

I saw and appreciated your reply to post about the poll yesterday. Still, though, I think I’ll just be truckin’ on.

» Posted By jan4insight On February 10, 2010 @ 12:10 pm

Nellie, I appreciate your advice, but I right now I don’t feel like a good fit for this site.

» Posted By jan4insight On February 10, 2010 @ 11:13 am

That may be, but I’m finding it very hard to even catch a thread and get into a conversation here.

I was really disappointed not to be able to share my excitement about some big news coming out of my state, NM. To have it written off because of the domain of my link was about the last straw.

» Posted By jan4insight On February 10, 2010 @ 11:02 am

So I’m chopped liver because I linked a post from there? Which, at the point I linked it, was about NEW MEXICO – and most of the discussion was & still is about NM.

You know, I use both sites, but the way I’m being ignored here is turning me off to this site!

» Posted By jan4insight On February 10, 2010 @ 10:48 am

Y’all should have come over last night, when this thread was on the main – it’s been practically troll-free.

Srsly, I get very very discouraged about posting links here that no one reads or responds to. Why bother? 🙁

» Posted By jan4insight On February 10, 2010 @ 9:53 am

Well, I was right on first name, almost 😀

» Posted By jan4insight On February 9, 2010 @ 9:06 pm

Perhaps, Sue. Oh, I gotta ask you – who’s that in your avatar? It sure looks like Johnny Depp 😉

» Posted By jan4insight On February 9, 2010 @ 8:47 pm

Hey, guess what – my state New Mexico is the main on that Other Site right now ~

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/09/new-mexico-house-votes-65_n_456043.html

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to open the link in HP’s very brief article, but I did find mention of this vote in the Santa Fe New Mexican’s legislative roundup today. This is getting next to no coverage here in NM!

» Posted By jan4insight On February 9, 2010 @ 8:47 pm

Wasserman Schultz would be a good choice, also. Should have been on the list!

» Posted By jan4insight On February 9, 2010 @ 8:07 pm

Good job, escri 🙂

I voted for 1) Grayson, 2) Martin Heinrich, my rep; and 3) Weiner.

Looks like we have a lot of agreement on the top choices!

» Posted By jan4insight On February 9, 2010 @ 7:01 pm

Thought I’d pass on this email I just received from Rep. Alan Grayson. It has some good, underreported news, plus a link to vote for him on FireDogLake. I KNOW we hate that site, but we might as well show our support for Alan (if you are so inclined, of course) ~
~~~~~~~~
The story that everyone in D.C. wants to tell is that the Democratic Party is disheartened and disintegrating. Teabagger Republicans are juiced up and on top. Or so the media says, over and over again.
But you and I know differently. Because if you actually look at the data, it shows that you have helped me become the House candidate who raised the most money in the entire country during the last FEC reporting period — $860,000 in three months — from the most number of people.
You and I did this together. We did it without French-kissing lobbyists and without constant boosting by Fox News. We did it through outspoken populist ideas. I told it like it is, on the war, on jobs, and on health care.
And we’re showing the Democratic Party that you can win when you have guts. Now I need a minute of your time to continue the fight. The progressive blog FireDogLake is holding a vote to see who they should support for 2010. They want to find candidates who aren’t afraid of a fight and who won’t back down.
Will you take a moment to vote for me in this contest?
http://action.firedoglake.com/page/content/fdlpacvote
The public wants a Democratic Party that will stand up for ordinary people. Let’s show the rest of the Party that this is how you win. Please take a moment to vote.
Best,
Alan Grayson
Member of Congress
Why Conservatives are Always WRONG
What a terrific article! No I didn’t read it all, but I did a fast skim through the last two sections, and bookmarked it for future reference. Thanks for posting1
Retarded
Follow-up: Last night I joined a number of other commenters and forwarded this information to Rachel Maddow with the suggestion that she might investigate and report to set the record straight. If anyone here feels so inclined, her email is rachel@msnbc.com.
Of course, this begs the questions that isn’t is ridiculous we have to investigate whether or not a political figure uses a teleprompter, but given that the Rethugs have made even this a talking point – I guess we fight fire with fire. 😛
